Is it just me, or has BATMAN suddenly become chic? I mean, has Batman ALWAYS been this popular (and I was somehow oblivious) or does it have something to do with the release of Batman Begins and the Dark Knight?

Discuss. (I want to know opinions... not complaints about the topic)

I think Batman has always had a good fanbase, but the recent movies, and awesome game, have helped the Dark Knight reach a younger, newer audience.

After all, he's pretty badass. That's bound to get some attention.
And yes, I think the movies and the game had to do with it.

If not before, the cartoon definatly made him cool. Batman is the only truly cool DC character.

Batman has always been pretty massive but the films along with the brand new game have helped massively to hit a much broader audience

Batman has always been popular with the geek/comic book nerd crowd for the most part. It is just the movies that made him popular in the main stream.

agreed it was mainly because of the newer movie the dark knight.

although there are always the hardcore dc fans, who,d still kill to get the new figurines.
i think there are more then we think.

And groovy:
Shake that cape B-man!

But yes it's the new movies that made Batman more popular these days, but then again he has indeed always been awesome.

I hope you read other DC comics before you make such a bold statement. There are many DC superheroes that are just as kick-ass.

Batman has always been good but unfortunatly developed a rather kitsch image. Adam West did a lot of damage to Batman`s image. I think the old Adam West Batman series is awesome though.

George Cloony was the worst Batman ever. I believe he agreed and offered a refund to anyone who actually saw that movie.

The new films made Batman dark and cool again. I will love Batman no matter what direction it goes in, but these who films were a vast vast vast improvment and fantastic interpritation compared to some recent efforts.

I have always loved Batman though. People laughed at me in school for saying I had a crush on the Joker, but after seeing Heath Ledger doing it they say `I know exactly what you mean`

The Joker has always been sexy for me...I collect his action figures. I really want one of Heath Ledger`s Joker in that special dress at the hospital

From what I heard Batman has always been the most Marvel like comic DC has published.

I dunno I haven't been around long enough to be able to tell with any certainty.

Yes, Batman has always been awesome. Yes, it does have to do with the movies. The same thing happens with all superheros, though. When I was young (before the Spider-Man movies came out), there was hardly any Spider-Man merchandise and when I would run across some (on rare occasion), it would be exciting just to find SOMEthing. Now there's Marvel stuff in every Target and Wal-Mart in the US.

They just all have seemed tacky to me. Maybe Im just used to the older stuff and they got cooler but no one told me. I'll stick with my Marvel comics though.
(DC sucks at Retconning though, Superman's history is a mess)

This. But the Joker from the Dark Knight (I'm ashamed to have forgotten his name) has also made his own franchise, of a sort

Even though he's dead.

I don't really think that you can call the earlier versions of Batman "popular". Not in today's commercialised world anyway. But perhaps they were. It's not as if you could say the word "batman" 20 years ago and people WOULDN'T know what you were talking about....
