...[sub]I'd share my thoughts but I'm still running WinXP and thus can't play BF3. I'm upgrading my computer next week though, so hopefully I'll be able to play before the beta ends[/sub]...
Doesn't run on XP? sadface. Guess I'll not bother with the pre-order then. I'll wait until I actually get around to installing windows7. Looks pretty fun tho, seems more like "Bad Company 3", but I got no problem with that.

For those that son't want to run Origin because of their terms and conditions just run it in a sand box. If it does actually try to trawl through your files (which I doubt it actually will), it won't see anything.

I personally think the hate train is going too far. Especially SmashLovesTitanQuest is going over board. I think you're exaggerating what they're monitoring for. Additionally, they changed the EULA to say that they're restricting the monitoring the software does to not include any private information that or any that identifies (or could lead to identifying) you (i.e. passwords and private communications etc). Nor will they actually sell this information: http://uk.gamespot.com/pc/action/battlefield-3/news/6331203/ea-changes-origin-eula .*

Also, calling out "all those people who lie down and take it" and saying they have no back bone is out of order too. Some how trying to make yourself feel superior?

I personally take offence to that because I'm going to download it and make my own call once I have some hard facts. Not just casting it off because of some t&c's without know what they real implications are. I'd say that takes more back bone that taking something at face value.

I can't say for sure yet, but when I download Origin I'll monitor it and see where it looks, if at all, and report back. If I deem it to be too intrusive, I will run it in a sand box so it can't. Win-win for me.

*EDIT: This is the point I'm calling you out on btw:

1. I have to agree to give away all my personal info to EA by installing Origin
I understand that if you don't want them to have any information at all you shouldn't use the software. However, I'd also recommend you uninstall your OS too.

What? You said I have nothing to hide, I imagine you dont either, so why dont you do the same?
You know they changed the EULA, right?

According to the current agreement, "EA would never sell your personally identifiable information to anyone, nor would it ever use spyware or install spyware on users' machines. We and agents acting on our behalf do not share information that personally identifies you without your consent, except in rare instances where disclosure is required by law or to enforce EA's legal rights."

While the wording on collecting information about a user's computer, operating system, software, and software usage remains mostly intact, another clause from the agreement no longer appears. That now-omitted line originally stated, "EA may also use this information combined with personal information for marketing purposes and to improve our products and services. We may also share that data with our third party service providers in a form that does not personally identify you." In fact, the new EULA makes no mention of marketing at all.

The third section in the EULA, "Application communications and conduct/privacy settings," has also changed considerably. It no longer includes wording that "EA reserves the right to monitor communications on the Application and disclose any information EA deems necessary," nor does it specify that if users don't agree to EA's collection, they shouldn't install the application.
Edit: nevermind, someone else got there first.

Atrocious. Maybe not that bad but I don't like it. For 1, I can't help but wonder why their open beta doesn't have vehicles, as that is what sets it aside from CoD. Seems a tad silly if you ask me, they're trying to get the CoD crowd's attention by giving them open bushes. Oh yeah. Prone. Fucking prone. Prone and bushes. The obvious floor and wall glitches (I know it's a beta and rarara glitches and shit but with so many people abusing it, it's nigh unplayable.)

Weapons are nice though. Need to work on their hit detection though, so many head shots not counted. I also enjoy getting kicked from games constantly coupled with lag. Beta or not, there is no excuse for it, they've done enough demos to know what they're dealing with.

Overall 6/10. Can be fun with friends, but for the above mentioned reason I'm not having fun with it.

started playing on the 27th (Medal of Honor finally proved its worth) and my only gripe is with Battlelog, I HATE that shit. (the following is copied from my post on Kotaku)

First and foremost the Plugin's required to make this work are hit and miss at best and currently the only fix (in firefox, couldn't find a fix for chrome) was to end the plug-in container, reload, and hope it worked. It took me almost an hour to get in game, and that was without the automatic matchmaking because that just plain didn't work. So it fails at its main purpose and this is BECAUSE it's using a browser.

Secondly, not being able to adjust any of my audio settings, graphical settings or keyboard layout without actually being in a match, not just in the game (which is, of course, standard), is retarded. WHO thought that this was a good idea? Even if it's just in the beta, WHO thought that not giving the players a place where they can customize their preference BEFORE starting a match or campaign was a good idea? Christ you can't even change anything when you're dead, you have to be alive. Thanks DICE!

Thirdly, EA puffed up their chests and decreed that "Battlelog is free", aiming a smart-ass gaze at Activision and Modern Warfare 3, and do you know what EA? I can tell it's free; It looks cheap, it feels cheap and it is cheap. We are getting what we paid for. Constantly seeing my desktop when i'm trying to play a game is a sign of a poor game interface (or lack of one), and removing even the most basic functionality for little more than a gimmick is like shooting yourself in the foot because "Hey, Nobody else has got a bullet in their foot, so we should innovate in that regard"

Battlelog is bad and EA/DICE should feel bad.

~~

For the actual gameplay though? I really like it, and i'm not just saying that because so far i've been whooping far much more ass than I'm used to whooping on online FPS's.

I already have Origin (Crysis 2 and Dragon Age), so I might try it out later.

Just to cry that I might not run it.

I love it, every thing is crisp and polished. The player motions are very fluid and natural feeling. The guns seem to have the pop that you would expect.

I hate, "overpowered" snipers, getting dropped from server 30-60 second before round end, auto squad and not being able to change, 4 character Clan Tags (Fuck You Dice >_<)

I personally am looking forward to them opening up the Caspian border maps ^_^

I'm not noting the bugs or glitches because it IS a beta after all.

Who knows? I might not be running Windows. Assumptions, ahoy!

Anyhow, im not trying to make myself feel superior. And im not trying to insult anyone. I said that I personally feel uncomfortable agreeing to these terms and conditions.

The response I got was "OMFG WHY THE FUCK U SO STUPID WUT U A PEDO OR A TERRORIST???? U GOT SOMTHIN 2 HIDE????" Its hard to be polite or reasonable when thats what people throw at you. Since you seem to lay so much value on politeness and being reasonable, I would have expected you to recognize this.[/quote]

The assumption was based on the fact that you want to play BF3 which, to my knowledge, doesn't have a client that works on anything but Windows. If I'm wrong, I apologise.

My point was that the EULA has been changed. It seems like from your response to DannyOcean that you don't want to believe that, but the fact still remains. Regardless, there are measures you can take to prevent it, like I outlined in my post.

As for the responses you got - It sucks I know. I just didn't like the part where you lumped everyone in the same category of "spine-less idiot", intentionally or not. I'm not going to attack you for your position - I'm just trying to tell you there are ways of using Origin without selling your soul to EA.

"Alright, we will take your information and we will do whatever we like with it, but we wont do anything with it that pisses you off. Honestly. We promise."
But it doesn't say that.

They can't do whatever they want with it, because they can't distribute it. I mean, what are they going to do? Give you a virus?

I understand if you're concerned they'll lose it, but they wouldn't be the first and they certainly won't be the last. Banks have been hacked, government laptops lost. You trust information to 3rd parties every day, why suddenly be so especially concerned when EA asks for it?

In all, I think you're being too cynical.

EA Fail. After months of scoring poitns at Activision's expense they release something as broken as this.
It's not released.

Anyway, it works great for me! I like the web-based interface, and the game launches and runs fine, although I do have it on low. All I need to do is upgrade a bit to play it on high and I'm set.

Haha, enjoy!

I don't see how anybody could forget BF3 :p

The whole origin thing does piss me off, but there's nothing I can do about it other than not get BF3, and I ain't doing that.
I will stop buying EA games if it gets worse though.
