As one of the forum posters, daltob to be exact in the Battlefield 3 to be ported to console topic said that Battlefield 3 with Frostbite 2 will not support XP or DX9, only DX11.

I checked it up on google and I found it out to be true, Battlefield 3 will only support Vista, Windows 7, DX11 and DX10. I find this suprisingy seeing as a lot of people are still XP (7 here myself.) and couldn't this cut into the PC sales for the game?

What do you guys think?

Well... when it comes right down to it, no one gives a shit about piracy when its a Microsoft product. Even the staunchest anti-piracy advocates make a beeline directly to [wherever] when a new operating system is required.

I think it's a good call. DX9 is getting dated. DX10 even runs smoother now. It isn't the first time a company has ditched the old to utilize the new.

Technology. We moved from rocks and stick. May as well move from XP to 7.

Most people stuck with XP because Vista was crap. Now with 7 its much better, even companies big and small are making the switches to the new OSes. No need to be that far behind.

Good. We need to progress and utilise current technologies. Anyone still using XP deserves not to play this game. I hope more games adopt this approach in the future.

Or some people think that they don't need to upgrade. They use the old system, it works fine for them, why should they upgrade? Just because it's new?

I'm a gamer who still uses XP, and it works fine. I will upgrade when my desktop dies or I make a major upgrade, but until then I doubt 7 is a big enough improvement for me to upgrade. (I am primarily use consoles to play games anyway so it doesn't affect my much, but I still buy some PC only games)

7 is measurably worse than XP in some aspects, though better overall. If you're a gamer who wants to run older games, XP is clearly the better option. I don't want to dick around turning Windows 7 into XP just to run Survival Crisis Z or Insect Invasion.

I actually saw about a 20% frame rate increase just from using 7.

The games capable of using DX10 also ran much smoother, almost double the frame rates I used to get. The upgrade is worth it. Not to mention architectural limitations that we've already hit, and will likely bypass in a year or so. So either way you're going to miss out on some newer games regardless of if you like it or not.

(and don't give me that XP 64-bit version crap. It'd be like saying "WELL I STILL USE ME, IT'S THE BEST OS EVER!")

I have visita on my machine because atthe time i got it, 7wasn't out yet,
and xp was not being sold in stores anymore, so the new one I didn't have a choice with.
HOWEVER....'v actually had no problems from visita that were not user induced.
None, Nadda, Zip. My own stupidity when playing around with the settings and updating the hardware have been the only cause of any trouble and all i'v had on it.

So, unless I need to replace the pc completely, I doubt i'll be dishing out the money for 7 for a long long while.

Don't get me wrong. The new direct x IS kind of tempting, but not worth the $100+
just for slightly smoother graphics.

I love 7 and all (except for the fact that the sound settings are hard as hell to change around [still trying to get my headset to work]) but XP was the best operating system ever.....ok not EVER but it was awesome.
You could just put the sound thing onto your desktop, and set audio/mic to be from your mic. I do it all the time, just two clicks and done, switch from speakers to headset.
