This is good news.

Now they can concentrate on programming for the newer more relevant stuff.

Well, seeing as Just Cause 2 already did the same thing, I guess it's time for those of you still using XP to Upgrade. It was bound to be replaced eventually.

A lot of the analogies that some posters are coming out with here are a bit over the top...
Sure, back when the leap was from Windows 2000 to XP it was amazing, however XP still runs just as good. My difference between my computer and a friend using Vista is nothing more than a shrug.

Heh, looks like I bought me an Xbox 360 just in time.

I still love my PC, but I just dont have the funds to upgrade her every time something like this happens. As long as Bioware dont pull this crap with ME3 so I can get it for PC and port my Shepards, then I aint really too fussed.

I have visita on my machine because atthe time i got it, 7wasn't out yet,
and xp was not being sold in stores anymore, so the new one I didn't have a choice with.
HOWEVER....'v actually had no problems from visita that were not user induced.
None, Nadda, Zip. My own stupidity when playing around with the settings and updating the hardware have been the only cause of any trouble and all i'v had on it.

So, unless I need to replace the pc completely, I doubt i'll be dishing out the money for 7 for a long long while.

Don't get me wrong. The new direct x IS kind of tempting, but not worth the $100+
just for slightly smoother graphics.
Vista has gotten better, upon release it was terrible and still isn't as smooth as 7.

However, DX11 isn't just smoother graphics, it's actually a whole mess of things, for example:

Tessellation
Compute Shader
More efficient use of multi-core CPUs

Look them up. It's not just smoother graphics, it's graphics in a way we have yet to see, and presented to us on fully utilized hardware for once.

I'm still using XP - it won't be the first game to not support it - I'll upgrade when I have to. At the moment, all 7 offers me is the ability to play less of my games. Forgive me if that's less than enticing.

Oh bullshit. This was gonna be a must get for me but if that's all they want to support then they can go ahead and lose a ton of sales money. There's still alot of people, including me, that are still on XP that wanted this. Sorry for the rant, I just don't see why they would do that, unless it is a technical impossibility.

I highly doubt it was because they just wanted to fuck with XP users.

If you're going to make a game with DX10 or 11 in mind, it's actually a lot of extra work for it to work with DX 9. It's not just a render switch like with DX9 to DX10.

Because any game that has extensive use of DX11 will look like total shit in DX9. The difference between the two is massive.

Refer to the above posted thread for more detail on what DX11 offers.

No joke, I got my laptop as a Highschool graduation present in 07. I'm still running XP. I can't justify spending the money to upgrade the OS (Or the laptop itself for that matter, it still runs fine)

So? It doesn't support Windows ME or Windows 3.1 either. XP is getting old, really old. 9 years old. In computer years, that over a hundred years old. There moving forward and its actually happening at a very slow pace so at some point XP is not going to be supported.

Good. We need to progress and utilise current technologies. Anyone still using XP deserves not to play this game. I hope more games adopt this approach in the future.
didn't a poll on steam say that like 67% or so still used XP?
About three years ago... New program, people.

Umm, if you can't afford an OS upgrade, then don't worry about the game. Your hardware isn't manly enough to run it.

I have a question for all the XP users.

What will you do when April 2014 rolls around?
