Be Honest, what did you think of QTE's when you first encountered it?

GoW had great ones. It let Kratos do epic, awe-inspiring stuff that would not have been possible had you been the one controlling him.

Fahrenheit's were generally good, but too long. "Are they going to throw everything from my apartment at me?"

Shenmue's got old. "Left-left-left" "Hurg!" "Right-right" "We're putting it down!" But I did enjoy most of the chase scenes.

The first time I remember seeing QTEs was in God of War - given that the first level involves you impaling a hydra on various parts of a half destroyed boat I'd say QTEs can be pretty sweet.

as I do now "that's kind of neat, and at least it's not me doing the exact same thing over and over". I don't mind them to much and I never have.

I think my first was the reaction commands in KH2, which were easy and optional, i thought they worked well and let me pull off some amazing fighting moves

My first time was playing God of War. I went "Hey, this is kind of a neat idea."

Sigh.

Dragon's Lair. The home version, not the arcade. I really sucked those ones up bad.

I hope somebody remembers this game. I'm getting tired of explaining it...

I can't remember, but I know I'm going to get my fair share of them when I buy Heavy Rain next Tuesday.

My thoughts exactly, though I am pretty sure that counts as low content posting.
It's not my fault I can to sum up my feelings to one word without any additional explanation needed.

I actually never had a problem, with QTEs, I'm not exactly sure when they became reviled by everyone, I think they're fine.

IN all Honesty I like QTE's when pulled off perfectly but with over use it just gets boring

I first encountered them in the middle of a cutscene in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and they annoyed me. They're less annoying when I know to be ready for them.

It was some arcade game a good decade ago, where you boarded a ship as a part of a 3-person police team, each of them individually.

My reaction was like "wait, what?". QTE were omnipresent during cutscenes and if you failed them, you usually began a fight with fewer health, or some other disadvantage.

What am I trying to say - they are fucking annoying if it's PRESS X TO NOT DIE a'la already mentioned Resident Evil. But if it's a gimmick that would give you a significant advantage in combat if done right - count me in.

EDIT: As I read the thread I must say, that you people are fairly young to the whole QTE business if post-RE4 games are the mostly mentioned titles in this topic. I must personally say, that modern games are horrible at QTE. It's usually a tactic to make you sit through a 3 minute cutscene which adds nothing interesting to the plot, only for the sake of watching it BECAUSE DEVS WANT YOU TO WATCH IT.

Kingdom Hearts 2. It said to press triangle, so I did.

"Wait--did I just do that? Never got to do that in Kingdom Hearts 1! Ha!"

I was surprised, then I died.

I find quick time events are fine, but you tend not to focus on the actual visuals as you keep watch for the button to show, it think if the buttons come up BEFORE awesome action part initiated by QTE then it's cool, if not then I get sick of them damn quick.

Like the knife fight in RE4, I just wanted to watch that awesome scene, but nooooo.
