I think maybe the thread should be changed to best anime besides the ones on adult swim.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Neon Genesis Evangelion, or Soul Eater.

I can't believe I just spelled out Eva's whole name, but I know there's probably a lot of new otaku reading this.
Evangelion was shown on adult swim at one point so I don't think that would be a good idea. Plus Adult Swim picked up some great shows. Outlaw Star, Trigun and Cowboy Bebop are definately on a list of anime I'd recommend people watch.

Eva has always been my favorite show. I havn't rewatched it in a while, not since I made a few friend's watch it. Maybe that will be my anime marathon for my next day off. Of newer things I've watched, I loved Darker then Black. The second season left much to be desired. Just very disappointing.

trigun. everything about it is great. the voice acting is so good that i actually use it as a marker for every other anime i see (like "the voice acting is good, but its not trigun good). the plot, especially the manga, has brought me to tears multiple times (and i am not one to cry easily). and its the only anime where i watched it only because i saw 2 episodes and i respected the main character so much that i needed to see what his back story was and where it was going to take him. trigun is by far my favorite anime/manga.

If we're talking series, Paranoia Agent definitely tops my list right now. It's so beautifully executed and keeps you guessing til the end. It has some really great music in the background too and fascinating characters. Other than that, FLCL is a very close second and probably is number one in its own wacky category. Oh, third is Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei because that's hilarious and...yeah I better stop now. It's hard to pick one.
Anime movies though...hmmm...well I have to say Paprika because I am addicted to it right now or Spirited Away. I love Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli movies in general because they are great works of fantasy, but I always come back to Spirited Away. It was my first one and I haven't forgotten it. Oh and Read or Die, that was a fun one. Stop making me pick, I love them all so much and I feel bad for leaving some out!!

For me, has to be a perfect tie between Code Geass and Death Note. I've seen alot of anime and still can't find anything that compares to those 2 in my opinion. I just love psychic battles, where it's all about great minds outsmarting each other, and nothing comes close to those 2 in that category.

Probably the same reason why Law Abiding Citizen was my second favorite movie of 2009 after Inglorious Basterds.

So yeah, I like Gurren Lagann.
What's this furry thing hanging out in my cleavage?!

OT: I concur.

Elfen Lied was BY FAR my favourite. I've seen over 2500 movies and 200 TV shows and none of them were as effective at pulling the heartstrings as that anime. Second place goes to FLCL and at third is Haruhi Suzumiya.

Mushi-shi. Clean, beautiful animation, stunning visuals, and excellent storytelling make this anime my pick.

I've only watched a few anime series in their entirety, but I think Hellsing is the best of them. The scales are slightly tipped in its favor, for me, because it's so exceedingly dark and strange. I really have to give an honorable mention to both Cowboy Bebop and Neon Genesis Evangelion. All of these series blew me away, and I love re-watching them.
