Probably Frankenstein - one of the few books that I actually read rather than just looked up the plot online. Brave New World was pretty good, too.

Watership Down, most definitely.

My English teacher actually let me keep my copy because I loved it so much.

Wow, The Stranger was my answer for the "Worst Book" thread. Different strokes and all that, I guess, heheh.

To Kill A Mockingbird, Fahrenheit 451, Animal Farm, and Lord of the Flies were pretty good.

And because the thread doesn't necessarily say "not counting books you read in class while everyone else was still discussing chapter three of the assigned book you finished a week ago", A Clockwork Orange, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Dante's Inferno, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, 1984, Hamlet, Macbeth, The Iliad, and The real Odyssey (not that horribly translated, absurdly abridged version everyone else was reading) were also quite good.

Ender's Game. Amazing book, can't believe they let me read it for credit.

Now if only I could find a college course in which we study The Dresden Files...

I'm probably the only person around who actually liked The Old Man and the Sea.

Also, I suppose Farenheit 451 counts, though the first time I read it was several years before I was actually required to by school.

Anything by Poe, for example the Masque of the Red Death, or The Pit and the Pendulum. Siddhartha was also pretty good

Hawthorne was hit or miss for me. I felt that some of his imagery and poetry was lost in his drama and activism. Other times, though, it struck the core of humanity, teaching me great wisdom, and taking me on a wild ride through a hell of a story. He is a great, regardless of his hit or miss status to me.
Hawthorne was one I particularly like because he offered very interesting narratives when you read them (i.e. Rappacinni's Daughter or Goodman Brown) but also offer a deep look in on humanity.

1984, The Giver, and Of Mice and Men were my favorites I was forced to read. 1984 is my favorite out of those three. I've read Macbeth and Hamlet, but I honestly was not a fan of Shakespeare and his work, but I do respect it.

Brave New World, Slaughterhouse Five, the Handmaid's Tale, and any Shakespeare play. Except my English teachers have this strange knack of completely ruining everything they teach, so fortunately I'd read most of the books before they had the chance to teach them to me. The thing about books that you're required to read is that often you'd never think of picking it up yourself. I wouldn't have read Slaughterhouse Five or the Handmaid's Tale by choice, but I ended up really liking both books.

We read "Brave New World" as a class my senior year, but my teacher had to keep it a secret because the book was apparently banned by the school. You have to love suburban Ohio.

I'd probably say the Bartimaeus Trilogy. If I had to pick one book from the trilogy, I'd probably go with the second, The Golem's Eye. Wasn't too fond of the last few chapters of the final book, but it was still enjoyable.

Granted, there are books I read in school that I didn't like then but prefer now, but I don't think that really counts.

It wasn't required reading, but honestly? Jurassic Park.

No, I'm not talking about a novelization of the movie. I mean the REAL SHIT.

None of that prissy nice nice Hammond. I mean the two faced, double edged sword supershit salesman to the end mad scientist who's too obsessed with money to see the beast he's breed.
