Hmm... I really liked Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. The combat system was great in that when cranked to the highest difficulty setting and changed to "Realistic", one swipe from a lightsaber that wasn't blocked resulted in losing several if not one of your limbs. Of course, it does make it an extremely hard challenge, but I like that sort of thing. I don't know why, but getting cut in half when failing to simply block, front flip, cartwheel, or pull off some insane evasive maneuver never gets old to me. It was great because 'realistically' you wouldn't be able to take a large number of hits directed at your jugular before so much as coughing in embarrassment- You'd swing your saber to block the other guy's, and if you didn't, then you were carved up like a chinese chicken, and mailed back to your Master for superglue fun.
Not only that, but so many combat systems I see today are more or less: The attacks are nice and theatrical and all that, but blocks, and other such defensive actions are simply standing still and holding your sword or whatever unfortunate animal you want to call a shield in front of you and standing still, like you're a human statue painted in gold, waiting for someone to brush their head passed your crotch by accident, or maybe that was just me.
Anyway, I find that SWJKJA was a fantastic game in that the combat was fluid, attacks and blocks actually involved you moving your sword to block the other one, and the saberlocks really were a good excuse to break a shitty mouse if you had one, so you could bug your parents or just go and take the better mouse that no one ever uses.
Oh, and the force abilities weren't terrible either, really quite humorous actually.
