I have enjoyed the prince of persia games thoroughly - with the recent game only making it slump a little bit...

I think I didnt like Forgotten Sands too much though because I really liked Prince of Persia (08) with the new Prince and really want that storyline continue...It will just be mean if they dont since they clearly left it open for a sequel (with either the in game ending or dlc ending)

Did you have a point to make with your own flame bait?
Copying my reply and posting a non-response isn't answering my question.
Either stick to the topic at hand, or don't post. It's that simple.
It ain't exactly difficult to give a quick re-check and see that I've added a line moments after the post. But if you're curious, I'll be happy to indulge you: I tend to regard the 'it'd be trollish' remarks with a quirk of a brow and an unimpressed look, when that same poster is talking about his childhood being raped, in another thread. I'm pretty sure that doesn't give you the moral highground, and even if it did, the OP very clearly specified that this was purely a question of preference.

Well, for now I'd have to go with Halo, simply because I haven't yet finished another series where I was not dissappointed with at least one of the games.

However, I'm halfway through the Stalker games, and I'm pretty sure they're going to make my list of "top ten games of all time".

Fortunately the OP asks quite clearly for peoples preference not an emphatic truth.
I know.
Though if pressed, I would have to answer with FASA's Shadowrun (he didn't state Video-games only!)

Call of Duty of course. Each game greatly improves on the previous and the series has really brought a lot to the FPS genre in recent years. The games also have a stellar campaign and multiplayer which is really rare in any game.

For me it would have to be either one of 2 franchises...

The Zelda one or the Castlevania one... I could have said the Metroid one but I hated Other M.

I have always enjoyed (since I was a kid) all the Zelda games and have always kept nice memories from playing them (most of them since I haven't tried phantom hourglass) and the Castlevania ones keep getting better and better. (I loved Castlevania Lords of Shadow)

Inarguably GTA. No other game series comes close to the cultural depth. I can't think of any other realistic contendor. Shallow kids games (mario, zelda, pokemon) don't count as they are a dime a dozen and not indicative of the quality and production values a videogame can aspire to. Half-life has only had 2 releases and linear fps are not anything special. What other series with as many releases has been as high quality? There's nothing. But you'll all disagree and just list your favourite game series instead.

There's still nothing else out there like the GTA games, other than maybe RDR & LA Noire. All other openworld/city/sandbox games are mindless fun and don't have the attention to detail or depth GTA has. Infamous, prototype, etc. they don't have radio stations, they have hardly any characters, they have simplistic plots and missions and focus more on mindless gameplay. Nothing comes close to GTA in characters, writing or setting. The whole series is a great social commentary relic of american culture in the past 100 years. Different eras and different cities represented in the music, the fashion, the ethnic groups, the cars, architecture, and tone etc. People don't appreciate enough how much more work and detail is put into GTA than any other game series.
GTA's "cultural depth" and commentary is about as subtle as a wrecking ball, its writing is clichéd, and its characters mostly 2-dimensional and often irritating.

Also, you're rather hypocritical: you dismiss the Half-Life games purely for their genre, yet go on to describe how other sandbox games aren't good. You can't examine the GTA games based on their merits within a genre that you don't think is generally very good, then dismiss another series because you don't think its genre is very good and ignore why it is praised.

OT: Hmm, not sure. I mean:

I adore The Sands of Time, but I don't like the two sequels or any of the other games.

I adore Mafia, but its sequel isn't enough to make the pair of them great together (although Mafia by itself is outstanding).

I love Mass Effect 2, but the first was only a very good and not AH-MUZ-ING.

So I can't really pick a series.

Your response is a fallacy: Poisoning the Well.
Your statement is utterly irrelevant to this thread, and serves no purpose other than to antagonize me.

Further, you have yet to provide the full context of your statement, suggesting intent to mislead. Whether this is true yet remains to be seen.

Finally, my qualms with Square-Enix are primarily subjective in nature, so I'm unsure of how you are able to enforce "morality" or standards anywhere here. Either that or you are unsure of what "morality" actually means.

Either provide something relevant, or stop posting.

Metal Gear Solid. I've immensely enjoyed every game released. And yea MGS2 too. Close second I'd say Final Fantasy and Elder Scrolls. I can always count those games will give me my RPG fix.

Actually, check a bit upwards and you can see I've already contributed to this thread in the fashion that would be required. Antagonizing people...um...weren't you the one who just dropped by to remark that the point of the thread is basically trollish, without even apparently fully comprehending the OP?

And I don't intend to take it anywhere to a moral level, or higher etical standards, or whatever. I merely wished to note that saying basically something that can easily be qualified as not sensible, but just trollish, then turning around and claim others might be trollish is a bit of a strange practice.

The Total War series. Iv played 6 of the 7 (I think its 7?) games released, and each one is better than the last.

Honourable mention to Mass Effect.

Jak & Daxter!
...No wait, they had Jak X and The Lost Frontier.

Ratchet & Clank!
...No wait, there were a few wrong turns in the run of all those PS2/PSP/PS3 games.

Shadow Hearts!
...No wait, From The New World.

Shin Megami Tensei!
...No wait, Raidou Kuzunoha vs. The Soulless Army, not to mention some of the really old titles.

TimeSplitters!
...No wait, the original definitely had it's flaws.

GTA!
...No wait, GTA III wasn't all THAT good and San Andreas was too big, too empty and had no graphical improvement.

Final Fantasy!
...Oh wow, I'm not even trying anymore.

Fuck, I say ICO. ICO's awesome and so is Shadow of the Colossus - and I've got high hopes for The Last Guardian. The series doesn't spawn as many installments as an EA-franchise, but dammit, at least they're all true masterpieces.

Oh wait, series.

Well, in that case, Halo. Most definitely.

Also I'm going to Wales in the Easter break, which is where my copy of Halo CE is (for numerous complicated reasons). Granted, it's only for 4 days, but still, I'll finally be able to properly play the first game in my favourite series!

I'm having trouble picking just one, but perhaps Zelda. I don't think I know of any other series that's been as consistently good as Zelda has, almost every Zelda game's been a near-perfect experience, and is the only golden age Nintendo series they haven't managed to completely ruin yet, hopefully Skyward Sword won't prove me wrong.

I also agree with GTA, every single GTA has been better than the last in leaps and bounds, which considering how high the quality of the series has been since GTA2 is a pretty big deal. I agree with what valleyshrew and tigermilk said.

Metal Gear Solid is also up there for me too. I love everything about this series, I just wish there had been a bit more of it.

StarCraft has done more to legitimize video games as a sport than any other game. It has an appeal to spectators, a robust and active competitive scene, and some really great top level commentators.

I'd put Team Fortress down as also being great as a sport, though that's died recently and really as a game it doesn't have the staying power with all the silly little additional items confusing everything. Definitely a fun game, but definitely nothing compared to StarCraft.

So yeah, StarCraft. Here's hoping the NASL can survive to become a big deal.

OT: The fallout series by far, I just love the freedom to do what I want
