God of War, because the GoW games are the closest video games will ever be to feeling as satisfying as sex.
To put that in a less stupid way, the gameplay strikes the perfect balance of challenge, variety, reward, and fun moreso than any other game I can think of. Plus, the story, graphics, and sound all pretty much define "epic".

Mass Effect comes in a pretty close second.

for me it's on par with Diablo and Zelda. Extraordinarily well developed, fun, addicting, and both have endless amounts of re-playability. and that is only scratching the surface...

Inarguably GTA.
I'm only talking about a specific game, rather than a whole series (as the first game was meh) but Saints Row 2 was good in comparison to the GTAs I played.

But a series as a whole? That's a bit tougher, I can name great games out there but series often have a bad game here or there...

The original Neverwinter Nights might have counted with it's numerous expansions, but 2 was not nearly as enjoyable.

Can't say Deus Ex, because 3 isn't out and 2 was pretty much a different game riding on 1's popularity.

I used to think Final Fantasy was amazing, but so many of them are bland...

Halo 1 and 2 were good, but I didn't really enjoy any other Halo games in the series...

The Gothic series is quite enjoyable thus far, but bugs are not at all rare and 4 is apparently not even really a Gothic game.

Ratchet and Clank for me as well.
I haven't played a bad game in that series.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1-4
don't bother with the rest.

Pokemon. I love every game in the series. It has robbed me of too many hours of my life.
Yeah, I'll agree with that. As much as I tell myself not to buy the next game, I almost always pick it up soon after it comes out.

Also, I think Fallout is a pretty solid series (minus the terrible, terrible Brotherhood of Steel shooter for the original Xbox). Even though I'm not the biggest fan of 3, I still think it's a good game with some really good atmosphere, and 1,2 and New Vegas are great games (regardless of bugs).

I ADORE the Sonic series.

Yeah.

First Sonic game I played was Sonic 2. Have loved Sonic ever since. Even stuck with him through that piece of trash '06, but he more than made up for it in the Secret Rings and Colors.

Pokemon.
Don't argue with Gyarados.
But I'm not scared of Mr. Fish! *sends out Ampharos*
*uses hyper beam*

Pwned. :D
Okay, I hate to be that guy but...
Ampharos' rather bulky Sp. Def/Hp stats would allow it to survive a hyper beam from Gyarados as Gyarados has a terrible Sp. Atk stat.

Because, well it's DOOM.
I know right? Without DOOM no other shooter would really be the same. Almost every game can relate back to DOOM.

First off, Zelda. Because Zelda made me a gamer.

Secondly, the Yakuza (AKA Ryu ga Gotoku) series. One afternoon I sat down with my friend, we were having beer and it was a nice day outside.

"You know what would be sick?" I ask.

"What?" says he.

"If there were a game that had a fucking awesome storyline like a kung-fu movie with its action, and was set in a sick atmospheric city like Tokyo or Hong Kong...That awesome, noir, jazzy-rock type atmosphere, with neon lights and panoramic cityscapes, and skyscrapers and the cramped-together buildings and shit. Like, I wanna hear Tokyo Jihen in my head every time I boot up the game. And it'd have tons of minigames and so many sidestories - good sidestories, not stupid grindy bullshit - to bring the place to life...oh, and a dating component too."

"Play Yakuza. This sounds exactly like Yakuza."

And, yep. Yakuza was just as I described. It feels like a Friday night every time I boot it up; going out on the town, getting into hijinks, and maybe mackin' on a hostess. It was exactly the right game at the right time in my life. It's now one of my absolute favorite series.

Okam...

Riight, series...

Ace Combat series. Severely underrated but then it is a flight sim.
