The Mana series.

Started going downhill a bit in recent years, but still competent. If they go back to the old formula now, they could be extremely successful. Non-linear gameplay is prized now, and Legend of Mana in particular was so open ended that you could actually make the world map yourself.

BFME was a good RTS. I wasted many an afternoon on that. I even dabbled in mod-making!

My vote goes towards Monster Hunter. A very niche series, but the games are so damn good.

I would agree with Monster Hunter, though if you said that in Japan it would be the exact opposite. They play that shit like MW2. Oh, and Beyond Good and Evil's sequel is still hazy at best, nobody is really sure it's actually happening. We can only hope it doesn't go the way of Starcraft: Ghost and Duke Nukem: Forever.

Just because it's not mentioned every 20 seconds does not mean it isn't well known.

Title of the thread says "not extremely popular". These are, in my opinion, amongst best games that are not >>> EXTREMELY <<< popular. Well-known? Maybe. Known as well and far as Halo, Call of Duty, or, god forbid, Zelda or Mario? Definetly not. That was my reasoning.

how many people does it take for it to be considered a popular game? (of course as we all should know by now, just because its "popular" doesn't mean its good)

All three games you mentioned, to me, are all well known and certianly well liked by the majority of reviews i have seen, other gamers i've talked to, and in my own opinion.
