the starting handgun from resident evil 4, well hell any of them really but the starting handgun first and foremost, small, reliable, accurate and fun to use.

(though to be honest, then entirety of Resident evil 4 had some of my favorite guns in a video game)

I always loved the Punisher from Resident Evil 4. I like the simple design, and it's effect is awesome.

The High Power Pistol from Red Dead Redemption. It's a precursor to my favourite short recoil pistol, the Browning HP.

I say the Mysterious Magnum from Fallout New Vegas. It's a strong gun, and when you holster and unholster it a cool guitar riff plays. That's pretty cool.

The selection of pistols my Survivor uses in Borderlands is pretty nice.

For games with fewer guns, anything with a silencer. If there are no silencers, just the largest caliber will do.

Splinter Cell's Conviction USP <3

Probably one of the rare games where the side arms get the spotlight.
The USP not the Socom? As I recall the USP is a non-silenced pistol.
The USP. I really only play, Denial Ops, so I grew accustomed to a mix of shooting and stealth action. I barely use the rifle, I 'hate' the acog attachment, totally ruined my SCAR :(
Yeah, the one I hated was the holo sights on pistols... and the inability to remove them...

OT: The Pistols (and really, all the guns) from ME1 were pretty awesome. They actually had unlimited ammo, and with reasoning behind such. IF you read through the codex, the concept behind it was cool.
I was more partial to my assault rifle, when I added the Frictionless Material X, that thing didn't overheat.

I just beat ME1 for the first time a week and a half ago. I have been playing through ME2 now, but I don't remember seeing an explanation to "All of a sudden, ammo! And not enough of it." It really gets to me, because the ammo really doesn't make sense, especially depending on what weapon I am using. I can pick it up with the assault rifle and get like 20 or more rounds(I don't remember), but with the same ammo thing if I am holding my sniper rifle, it only adds on round.

Though I will say that even with the changes, I really like ME2 better. After the first half of ME1, I got real tired of keeping track of my inventory and deciding which gun will be better and switching out the upgrades and all.

What I find alarming is that causal mode in ME2 is actually harder than casual mode in ME1(I always do casual first in BioWare games because I just want to concentrate on the story first). I used a run and gun tactic in ME1, but it just doesn't work in ME2. It is like they changed the enemy AI to a practically automatic hit system versus the player. I remember the enemies missing me a lot in ME1.

I really took a liking to the Phalanx pistol from some of the latest Mass Effect 2 DLC. Love the targeting laser and just has a great shot sound effect to it- makes you want to keep using it.
I might actually have to break down and actually by that weapon DLC. I told myself I would pay money for just a few weapons. But now that I see the Phalanx is the has the best base damage for pistols in the game, I can't wait to try it out, because so far, about every weapon in the game has been rather rubbish to me. Even if I'm sighted up and aiming my assault rifle, it seems like 80% of my rounds miss, even with controlled bursts.

The only weapons that haven't done me wrong are my heavy weapons, and my favorite is my sniper rifle.

Sniper rifles are awesome now because they removed the stupid unsteady sighting from ME1. I like that I can sort of treat my sniper rifle like a Halo sniper rifle, minus the being able to fire four shots before reload like in Halo.

If I'm going to pick a favorite gun, it isn't going to be a handgun.

It is the M-98 Widow.

The Ambassador from Team Fortress 2, the Halo 2 plasma pistol, the .357 revolver from Half Life 2...

There's an awful lot of great handguns in games. I can't even think of a game that doesn't have a truly great handgun in it.
it took some doing, and a technicality or 2, but Halo 3 does not have a truly good handgun. spike gun (can't remember what it is called) and plasma rifles are 1 handed but fully auto, so they are smgs. the pistol is piss poor, and the plasma pistol does not do enough damage to do anything but take down shields. but that is besides the obvious and kind of smartass-esque answer of games that do not have handguns.

but speaking of plasma pistols, i think you are forgetting one very very important piece of equipment here (and sorry if this is a repeat, im tired so i only really read the first 2 pages so i wouldn't loose this post to respond to [i forget stuff easy when im tired])

this pistol, in the tabletop game of warhammer, is short ranged (only 12 inches, but its a pistol, so what do you expect?), but has a strength of 7 (making it fairly easy to wound most infantry/creatures/light vehicles), and an armor penetration of 2+, which means it can pierce terminator armor.

for those who do not know this is a terminator. basically a mini tank with comparable firepower in the form of a sword which can cut anything, a double rapid fire grenade launcher (basically), and a missile launcher rack.

in the strategy games, it is one of the most if not the most powerful pistol type available (in dawn of war, since there is leveling, the quality of each pistol varies)

here is the divine pistol. if it is pointed at you, you are genuinely fucked if someone is not in front of you wearing heavy armor. and even then, you best pray he has only 1 shot left.

EDIT: the C finder is a close second, but as it is only a targeting lazer, i disqualify it in my opinion

It's a .44 magnum on the inside.
Not if you go by the item description from 1 and 2, which has it as a hand modified .223 hunting rifle.
My mistake, thought you were talking about the Blade Runner gun in the photo. That's definitely a .44 magnum Bulldog revolver inside a Steyr-Mannlicher SL rifle reciever. It's also the best movie gun ever.
Yeah, "That Gun" is the New Vegas name of the .223 Pistol from Fallout 1 & 2.

It was patterned off Deckard's pistol as one of many pop culture references in the game.

Golden gun from any 007 game. One shot kill. I'd take that even over the Halo Combat evolved pistol.

The Cerebral Bore from Turok 2. It followed brain waves and drilled into the skulls of its victims. That was fun.
