the most recent one? idk. Nintendo is so slow to actually change the game that theres barely any appreciable difference between each one. I think the game is almost moving more sideways than forward, perfecting things that are at worst inconveniences and not daring to change the core gameplay at all. So i guess the most recent one is the most polished but i'm not interested in playing, what is at it's core, the same game again.

Many of my favorites are from the gold ans silver set though.

Black and White are by far the best in the series, everything feels so... right. It's hard for me to go back to older games now, they lack the amazing improvements B/W had.

Pokemon Snap

I'd have to say Black and white are best in terms of story, they're tied with heartgold and soulsilver for gameplay, and Red blue and yellow take the cake for coolest pokeymans.

Diamond/Pearl because of the underground. I can't tell you how many hours I spent tapping away looking for fossils. When I finally put the game down I had more than hundred fossil pokemon sitting in my PC...didn't bother training them...it was just cool to have them lol.

And that's why I think they should do a generation of just fossilized pokemon. Make a region devoid of "current pokemon" (for whatever reason) and all the trainers dig up fossils to make their party. I think that would be a very interesting way to go for the pokemon franchise. Although they'd probably still want to give all the new pokemon Rock as their primary or secondary type. Or maybe they can break away for that. Still, it'd be interesting.

Generation 2, but I feel the best starting roster goes to 1, 2nd being 3. I'm going through Crystal right now, but as soon as I could I deposited Bayleef, which single handedly beat Falkner, in favor for my hatched egges sent from gold: Squirtle, Scyther, and Vulpix. Others I picked up were Bellossom, Onix, Noctowl (for Scyther's lack of flying), and Golbat. So I have pretty much stuck to Gen 1 roster.

I don't know why I prefer 2nd gen so much. I'd much rather have an Articuno than any Gen 2 Legendary pokemon. Plus I can't get my beloved Rayquaza.

Black. It's much better than any previous game. Mainly because of the awesome spped and animations, it's just more fun to play for a long time.

gold/silver/crystal, after a couple of false starts (hated two of the three starters, only the first generation avoided this), my crystal file clocked in at about 350 hours and it i genuinely the one i had the most fun in, it fixed all the problems and needless busy-work that the first one contained and built on what happenned and where we went in the first one. since then, almost every game has been completely standalone. also, this was, i think, the last pokemon game before it became COMPLETELY ridiculous (have you seen the new pokemon? there's one pokemon that is basically a rubbish bag for god's sake). not only that, but it was the last one to feature team rocket as the main villains (i don't count remakes, never liked them, never will, unless the original was awful), and i loved team rocket, they were completely ineffetual, but i don't care, the plots since then have either been kinda shoehorned in (although i've heard the plot for black/white is pretty good, but i completely stoppe caring during diamond/pearl) or even dumber than team rocket (flood the world? evaporate the oceans? THESE ARE NOT GOOD IDEAS!!!)

anyway, my favorite is gold/silver/crystal and i hope i've adequately explained why

Kinda tough for me to choose. Diamond and White are the only Pokemon games I've actually beaten so far, and I've never played Gold and Silver. (GASP!)

Although I am currently going through Red again so I can finally beat it. As much as I love the nostalgia I get from playing it, I will say that it is quite inferior in terms of gameplay and features compared to the newer generations.

"No more items can be carried."

Grrr....

But yeah, as of now, I'll have to go with White. Although I do plan to play Gold, Silver, or Crystal just to see if it's as good as everyone says it is.

BTW, Clefairy is awesome. I didn't think something that looks so small and harmless would make such a kickass team member.

I think my centre currently lies somewhere between Platinum and Black/White. I used to fixate on Gold and Silver, but I think they've lost the nostalgia sparkle so I can see the obvious flaws now.
