Way too many overrated exclusives on my beloved system.
Just dont buy any exclusive from this year and you'll be fine.

Uncharted 2 is a must have.

And InFamous is better than Prototype IMO.
You get Infamous for the uh...Story?
Prototye for you know...enjoyment!
I did not like Prototype, that's it. I quickly grew bored. InFamous was much more fun.
What made Infamous more fun to you?
(Note,I actually want to know, This isnt an arguement)
I loved to grind on the railroad and the electric-wires. Made me feel badass when I could string some awesome moves together to go around the city.
And the combat just felt more glorious. I would jump around, snipe enemies while in the air in slow-motion, run around throwing grenades and shooting shit. In Prototype, I had all these awesome powers but I always had to get personal, and it's never fun to fight something that breaks your combos. When fighting those big bastards I always had to jump up, do a smash into the ground, and repeat.
The graphics (I know graphics aren't everything, but I hated how everything was all boring-looking in Prototype. InFamous just looked beautiful, which added to the fun)
The attacks. As I said before, it wasn't that fun to get up-close and personal all the time in Prototype. I had much more fun shooting stuff.
The bosses where a lot more fun. It felt more epic in InFamous than in Prototype (Maybe I should stop comparing the two since you just want to know what made InFamous fun and not waht made InFamous better)
The story was fun, and a lot of missions didn't feel as generic for a sanbox game. The Prison-defense level comes to mind.
And I liked the Karma-system. Not because it was implemented well (it was kinda average) but because I.. I don't know, I just loved being good and the game telling me I was a nice person. Also, I like blue.
That's the mainpoints that made it fun for me.
I probably should have added that I have Platted Infamous.
I can see why you enjoyed it so much, but some things got tedious such as-
The horrible side missions, especially the escort ones, the Titanic battles were epic though.
The scaling of buildings sucked hard, I couldnt actually climb anything.
With the graphics comment, I have to disagree, Infamous had a better Art Style, but way too many blocky facial textures and a horrible draw distance.

I agree some missions were pretty cool, such as th UAV one or the balloon one.
Infamous is still a great game, but I liked Prototype much more. After selling Infamous I can get all the joy I need from the demo, Ill eventually rebuy Infamous someday.
I platted InFamous too. By God does my thumb still hurt after pressing the fucking analog stick.

I never got around to get the platinum for Prototype. Soooo much griiiiinding.

If we're talking about exclusives I'd have to go with Uncharted at the moment. Little Big Planet's too frustrating to get my vote.

Just n case anyone's looking for a great PS3 exclusive I'd definitely recommend Infamous, I loved that game a lot more than I expected.

MGS4 is my favorite game of all time.

Demon's Souls is fantastic along with Assassin's Creed II and Oblivion and perhaps Fallout 3.

You should give Demon's Souls a try. It's very much a "Love it or hate it" game, but if you're into that kind of stuff it's totally awesome.
Another vote for Valkyria Chronincles! Best combat system to come along for RPGs this gen (though I personally don't find a whole lot of RPG in it).
For the Prototype vs inFamous debate, I lean towards inFamous. They've both got good gameplay, but gameplay never holds my attention after 35 minutes. I was interested in the story of inFamous, while Prototype bored me.
Uncharted 1+2, all the Ratchet and Clanks, and Batman are all must haves.
These three don't show until early next year, but save some money for God of War 3 (March or April), Heavy Rain (Feb), and Gran Turismo 5 (Gamestop lists it as Feb).

EDIT: Oh yeah, don't forget FF13 is hitting early next year.

Demon's Souls is not only the best PS3 game but the best game this gen in my opinion.

Don't listen to Yahtzee's uninformed review where he thought the "step back" button was the "dodge button." A dodge is a roll to the side, plus he says you can't save midlevel which you can and it saves all your items and exp every time you kill something so you get them when you start over. Plus he pretty much sat there and said "I gotz killed :(" for the whole thing.

For games that are already out, get Valkyria Chronicles too which is an amazing tactical RPG. I'd also recommend inFAMOUS, Killzone 2, Uncharted 1, Uncharted 2, LittleBigPlanet, All three Ratchet and Clank games, Katarami Forever, MGS4, Heavenly Sword, Disgaea 3 and Motorstorm 2.

For next year, get Heavy Rain, White Knight Chronicles, Modnation Racers, Gran Turismo 5, MAG, God of War 3, The Last Guardian, Twisted Metal and Rockstar's Agent.

And there's plenty of multiplats too.

I feel the need to be that guy, I neither love nor hate demon's souls. I definately like elements of it, but I dislike how it throws you in with little explanation on how to play (especially with regard to 1-2 being so difficult, I didn't originially realise I was supposed to finish 2-1 first). Though I suppose I do really like the game, there are just aspects of it I hate.

OT: Metal gear solid, the first one, is available on PSN (dunno if it will hold up compared to modern games without the nostalgia, but my replay of it was well worth the $15). Metal gear solid 4 is probably my favorite console game of this generation so naturally I'd recommend that. I've had a lot more fun with fifa09 than I would've expected (I bought my ps3 second hand and it came with it...don't judge me), it's so broken and the gameplay seems far inferior to an earlier version I had on my xbox (might've been 05 or there abouts) but it's still a blast multiplayer, I imagine this is true for all of the generic sports games (I've never had a bad experience with the NHLXX for example). I'd probably avoid littlebigplanet unless you have someone to play with, my copy is mostly collecting dust as the only person I have to play it with is my sister (who is among the worst gamers of all time) which is frustrating, though it is a great game to introduce girlfriends too ;). If you're into racing games GT5 shouldn't need mentioning, but I will anyway (with the logitech G25 gaming wheel it's amazing). That's about all I've played worth mentioning.

It may (though probably won't) be worth mentioning that given the choice with most multiplatform games, the xbox 360 port is usually better (easier to work with arcitecture, more powerful graphics cards etc) as they tend to have a native upscale to 1080p (where PS3 games tend to run at their native 720p). Of course, with games designed for ps3 and ported the x360 the trend is reversed. Probably worth bearing in mind if your choosing which console to buy a game on. A lot of people will try and push xbox live on you around this point, however my experience indicates that PSN is far faster and more stable, despite it being wireless where the xbox scores a direct cat5 connection, so bleh (I'm aware that this last paragraph is probably unecissary, but I felt like uncluding it anyway, I am not claiming either console is 'better').

as far as resistance is concerned, i got this far:

aliens invade earth to kill all the humans, coz its like a ps3 halo (;D). the protagonist is infected with... something...
i got that far, but if i had to guess the end, i reckon humies had a good win, but still havent won, the protagonist is still coming down with the cold (or watever), and the aliens launch another attack, ready for the second game. did i get the mark?

anyway, batman looks sick, going by reviews (thank you zero punctuation :D), as does AC2, although id expect the latter to tend to be abit grindy, as sandboxes usually are to a point.

Am looking for a certain kind of shooter... very specific, as per my dads interests ;)

If anyone has played star wars battlefront, something like that. a third person shooter, that is based on alot of action, and clear level designs, so some people who arent as bigger gamers dont get lost (*cough*dad*cough*)
No, you failed with your first point.
They are not Aliens, comeback when you have actually played the first mission.
not surprised, but in defence, i played 2 missions half way through... i think i played a level where i drove around in a *cough*warthog*cough* clearing out checkpoints and knocking out barricades.

As for Uncharted 1+2, i have heard a lot about it being really good, but have also heard lots of bad wraps it gets. any mini reviews would be great concerning gameplays, because i hope it isnt like tomb raider games... theyre just not my cup of tea.

Sports wise i like the Fifa series, but am afraid that if i get fifa 10, it will start collecting dust. not because its a bad game (i go over to peoples house just to play it :D) but because i cant see much replay value. Does the multi-player make this game? or is it worthwile getting something else?

WOW if MGS4 is only $15, thats a no brainer :D

Valkyria Chronicles im abit cautious about. It looks like a great idea, but seems abit slow for me. im abit used to the rts games nowdays, so a step back to a worms 3d type game might take abit of getting used to.

Grand turismo 5 will be a must have. i have the 3rd one and the graphics are awesome, so one on ps3 will be MASSIVE!

inFamous is great in that it's the only game I've played this console generation that's fun to play with, not through.

And Uncharted 2 will blow your mind.

And Flower just might make you cry.

Uncharted 2 is amazing and I would recommend getting that in a heartbeat. Killzone 2 is my personal favorite and an amazing game but you might want to rent it first in order to try out the controls (and the addicting multiplayer) as not everyone likes it.

"Best" PS3 game is kind of a relative term.

Everybody has their likes and dislikes, there is no "best" game for everybody.

Just choose a genre of gaming that you enjoy, and play a PS3 game that fits that genre, simple as that.

Uncharted 2 is my game of the year, so definitely get that. Everything about that game is fantastic - the levels are beautiful to look at (particularly the ones in the mountains, or the last area), the gunfights are epic, and the game simply never lets-up. I've also just got Assassin's Creed 2, and I'm having a lot of fun with that at the moment. MGS 4 is a must, as is LittleBigPlanet. I'd also highly recommend Call of Duty: WaW - the multiplayer is incredibly fun, and the main campaign is very well done.

Valkyria Chronicles.
Everyone I talk to about that game says it sucks. I kinda want it, but don't want to waste the money if it's bad! :(
Almost half of it is awesome gameplay, the other part is obnoxious anime.

It's a very fun game, there just aren't all that many missions compared to the amount of cutscenes.
Also your completed missions are ranked for how good you did, unfortunately it has nothing to do with awesome strategies and more with the amount of turns it took (surrounding the enemy's camp is often worse than sending in a single shocktrooper through the enemy lines). That's another thing, there is a maximum amount of turns you may take before you lose the mission which is unfortunate if you just want to have some fun. You get more than enough turns to complete it however.
