Wars aren't much fun, but they keep the population in check. I think that's pretty worth dying for. ^^

Because they crossed the imaginary line I had just made on the ground.

Well, truth be told I don't really need to start a war just because of that, but I realized that if I did turn it into a war, I could make movies, video games and books about it later.
You can make a fortune from selling those.

None. Few concieveable if any reasons to start a war. Only acceptable way to get invovled in a war is to finish it.
Agreed.
Tell that to the Vikings who needed war to stay alive. Don't belive me, look where they live a frozen wasteland with limited rescorses with the exception of trees and metal, and when they see a nice little farm town about a few miles down the road. I'd fight

I would think this would be obvious.
Given a brief looking over history there are only three primary reasons for starting a war
1 - over your imaginary friend (god)
2 - because they look / act different than you (race)
3 - paper invoking the name of your imaginary friend on it (money)

the reasons become mushed and blurred by a million things, but that is basically the root of every war.
But the question was, Why would you start a war?

OT: I would start a war against anyone who is ignorant, hell even other Christians, Ignorance is most certainly not bliss. Other examples:

-Nazi's
-Rednecks
-Homophobes (Who hate homosexuals)
-Atheists who won't SHUT THE FUCK UP
-Any religious extremist group
I'm just curious, you say you would go to war with people who hate homosexuals, but would you go to war with people who like other males under the age of 18? I read an article on the CBC website recently (couldn't find it again for the life of me) which said that a man from Montreal was sentenced to 14 years in an American prison for possesing "child" pornography (as young as 12! When people are at their mental prime! Thus the show "Are you Smarter than 5th Grader?") and inviting a 13 year old male into a hotel room with him, who, by the words alone, you can tell came by his own will. But there were all these comments saying "throw away the key" "what a sicko!" "let the perv rot!"
I was repulsed. I know that sometimes older males will molest younger males, but that seems to hardly have been the case here. The hatred was tremendous.

I was cruel to a gay person in my class at the all boys boarding school I went to, because it is in my nature. Once he was ranting about how younger kids kept asking him what it was like being bisexual (which he claimed he was, I think he was homosexual) and he said "I'm a girl in a guys body." At the time I thought that he was an absolute abomination, a monstrosity. But the truth is he didn't deserve that at all. I'm sure he's attracted to males under the age of 18, and that doesn't mean he has an incurable "mental disease" as one person said. Would you go to war with those people? I am very curious.

*edit*

Just to be clear, my main contempt is that I always hated that I was treated as a sub-human incapable of making decisions when I was under 18, it pissed me off so much. Now that I am 19, I focus my hatred on those who still oppress people under the age of 18. Eighteen is more than half of what people lived to be just a few hundred years ago, so biologically, eighteen is old, and the idea of telling say, a 15 year old boy he can't have sex with a 25 year old woman is ridiculous. Sorry for the side rant.

The only good reason for war is to preserve freedom!
Strangely enough, freedoms are the first thing that go out the window whenever a war starts.

Seriously, in the modern world there is no good reason to start wars, because everybody but a select group of wealthy and powerful people loses because of them.

Hmmm, I'd imagine that if I were an executive of a military contractor, ANY reason would be good, including 'they looked at me funny'.
"They looked at me funny" is the best damn reason to start a war there has ever been

Land, if you aren't fighting for land it probably isn't a war. We've reached an age where war is actually considered bad and everything is taken up, so until new real estate appears you should only fight for your own land. "If you want peace, get ready for war."

Because the leader of country X is a ruthless psychopath with aspirations of world domination, and actually has the means to do it, be it nukes or an elite army of well-trained and well-equipped soldiers (World War II)

Because your country is being bum-raped by an invading army, and you'd rather they didn't do that

These are the only good reasons to go to war I can think of.
