Does anyone remember gaming in the 90s? I sure do. They were great times.

I remember not knowing anything about what company made what game or anything like that, just blissfully playing my Mega Drive.

When I saw the N64 a friend owned, I wanted one, and asked my parents for one for Christmas, and saw a big box under the tree, oh man was I excited.

Christmas Day arrived and I ripped that wrapping paper, to see a box that said Playstation. That was the first time the phrase "what the fuck is this?!" entered my mind in my life, I had never heard of a Playstation. XD

Anyway my parents got Gran Turismo, Crash Bandicoot 2, and Tekken 2 with it.

I was very happy with the console/game choices they made.

TL;DR: so escapees, when your parents got you any game as a kid that you didn't ask for, and you saw it and thought "wtf is this...", which games were they and did you enjoy them?

My mom, awesome as she was (though still is), bought me a N64 on launch, with Mario 64 and Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire. I had never heard of it (was a Sega-man myself up to that point). She didn't buy it for my birthday or anything, she just brought it home one day.

I kid you not when I say it was the best day of my life. Best. Surprise. Ever.

I grew up on Windows '98, and during my elementary school years, I had a PlayStation 2. I was talking to my mom one day, and was reminscing about the games I used to play on it, Half Life 1 in particular. My Mom went out to do some errands, so I stayed home and played some Tekken 4 (one of my all time favorite games).

Well when she came back, she had a bunch of bags in her hands, but one was abnormal. It was a GameStop bag. I asked what was in it, and she pulled it out.

I could not believe my eyes.

It remains one of my most played PS2 games to this day. And I still play it in between games, because it is one of the best FPSs ever made.

My parents bought me a Nintendo 64, with Ocarina of Time for Christmas one year. That was the first console that I ever owned, and Ocarina of Time is still one of my favorite games to this day.

I remember gaming in the 80s, come on! :) We got a new game for £3.50 once.

Anyway, now that I think of it, I don't think my parents have ever bought me a surprise game. Whenever it came to them getting me a game, I was either there with them in the shop or they had clear instructions what to buy.

Even though I knew what I was getting, the Christmas I get my Megadrive was still almost unbearable exciting. Got Sonic 1 & 2 with it, along with, er, Greendog. Still, even that game didn't seem so bad from a my childs viewpoint.

For Birthdays, Christmas etc.
N64 - Beetle Adventure Racing. May have asked for it but, I didn't know I was getting it.

PS2 - Jak 2, 3, Spy Vs Spy. No Idea they were getting me those. Final Fantasy X, I asked for it but, didn't know I was getting it.

PC - Noah's Ark 3D. I believe they also got Star Wars Battle Front for me as well.

Random events.
My mum brought home Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers for PS2 one day. Not too bad a game.
Another time she got Sonic Unleashed for PS3. First level was fun, then all of a sudden he changed and the gameplay changed.... Still, it was free and unexpected so I don't really mind and it's still fairly fun.

A nintendo Wii, completely outa' the blue at Christmas, along with all the games I'd asked for for my PS3. So obviously I played No More Heroes and Madworld on it then gave it to my sister because it sucks. But still, what an awesome surprise.

I remember, at the time, I'd been really pushing to get a Wii. One day, my dad just picks one up. I wasn't home at the time, so he sent me a text, trying to be clever. The text read "qui". I think he meant to type "oui", French for "yes" and pronounced "wee". Still, I understood, and it was awesome.

Probably Kingdom Hearts 2.
My dad was proper sneaky with it and everything. Didn't tell me he'd got it and hid it. Where? In a pile of my other games.
If the box hadn't of been slightly shiny, I don't know how long it would've taken me to find one of my now-favourite games ever.

Another is Uncharted 2. I wasn't as excited because, for a reason I can't remember, I didn't even know it was out. A good experience being unexpected seems to make it even better.

My uncle/aunt that I almost never saw only ever gave me 2 things, Rome : Total War and Morrowind: The Eldar Scrolls III (which I kinda forgot I had until recently, I intend to start it after exams). <3 Rome

Parents generally asked me what I wanted games wise. If it was up to them it would likely be funducational -_-. Although they are good at surprising me in other areas, I really love the watch they gave me this xmas past for example

Probably KoTOR. Just got my Xbox and really only wanted Halo but got that as well. TWO lightsabers? That's all I needed at the time. It was also funny that my entire team eventually consisted of Jedi using nothing but 2 of them at a time.

When I first got my PS2 for Christmas, it came with The Simpson's Hit and Run. Probably not the best game ever but it sure was a great surprise.
Man, the PS2 is STILL awesome.

Left 4 Dead 1 was my fave. I went home from a friends house at 10 at night, and told my dad about it. Next thing I know, he comes home from work with a Gamestop bag, and I'm all like, "The f*** is in that Gamestop bag?!"

Take a guess what it was.

It sure as heck wasn't Barbie: Horse Adventures , that's for sure.

I got Diablo II when I was about five, had no idea what the hell it was and it ended up being one of the only games i played for about four or five years. I still go back to it every now and again as well
