Walking around walmart with mom.
"Hey son"
"yes mom?"
"I want to try some video games, what should i learn on, would this be good *picks up Banjo Tooie box*"
"sure, i could try to teach you"

I think she just wanted an excuse to buy me a game.

My mom bought me Mass Effect for christmas in 2007. It sat in my closet for 9 months unopened. One day, I was super bored and decided to give it a whirl.

Mass Effect is now one of my favorite games ever. It is, in my opinion, the best RPG ever made.

My Gran bought me Future Cop: LAPD on PS1. What an awesome game that was. It's on PSN, but my PS3 has gone the distance so I doubt I'll ever play it again.

My Mum and Dad saw the trailer for Just Cause on TV and told me about it, next birthday/christmas they'd bought it for me. I played that game to DEATH untill the second one came out.

Well, it wasn't my parents, but my sister bought me maximo for ps2. I was all like, "This is shit awful". Then a few weeks later. BAM! Addicted.

My Da explicitly told me that I could not have Vice City for my 12th birthday. Needless to say I was a little disappointed about it, but he told me the reasons and I could see where he was coming from, what with wanting to look out for my mental well being and all. So I decided that OK I'll just ask them for a different game accepting that GTA would have to wait. I tell them to get me Kingdom Hearts. On my birthday I open a suspiciously game shaped present fully expecting KH. Out pops GTA and a grin from my parents. They suckered me the whole time.

You see, my family had traditionally been against video game consoles, under the pretense that me and 5 brothers would fight over it most of the time.
My tenth birthday, I got Smash Bros Melee.
I was confused, but trying to act cheery, as it appeared it was an attempt, but utter failing to realize that we do not have a gamecube.
10 seconds later, I realize what was in that box- Shiny used gamecube, complete with 4 controllers.
So friggin awesome, that day.

I remember when I got my very first Xbox at christmas, complete with Halo: CE and SplinterCell I was over the moon!

Another time, Halo 2's release day. I'm still in School...I come home and I see the window open and my Dad's there holding a brand new copy of Halo 2 Limited edition. We Co-oped that in one night on legendary. True Father and Son bonding. I miss those days.

Master of Orion 2. I had NEVER heard of it (or the original) and never expressed any interest in it. They were looking for a couple games to get me for Christmas that year. They knew I was asking for Donkey Kong Country, but also wanted to surprise me with one.

At first I was dubious, but I ended up liking MOO2 more than DK Country in the long run. Best Christmas ever!

The only game I can ever remember them getting for me without me asking was the first Spyro game.

Wario Land for the game boy. Buying that brilliant game is the only good thing my father ever did for me.

When my parents bought me my N64, it came with Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer (there was a promotion going on, and we were just going to see the movie). That turned out to be a seriously pleasant surprise.

Actually, some years before that, they bought me a Genesis, and with it Sonic 2, Sonic Spinball, and NFL Sports Talk Football...all of which I loved.

Also, one Christmas they got me Oni. That was quite magical.

Armored Core 2 with a PS2. This was back when I didn't give any input into what I wanted other than, "I want legos!" I shudder to think what would happen now if my mom tried to blindly buy me a game.

The N64 on the Christmas the year it came out was awesome, but nothing compared to the Easter of 2005 gift that is the best gift I've gotten in a long time. Half Life 2 on the PC.

My dad is a massive gamer, so when Christmas came around he would always get me the most amazing stuff. I can't even state just one I have to give a top three, I'm sorry for breaking post rules ^_^

1. 6 or 7 years old, christmas morning I open a present(which my dad drove in the middle of the night to get to my moms house) containing a lime green Gameboy Color and Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow. I was so happy I remember crying after I opened it.

2. My 5th birthday my dad shows up to my mom's house and gives his old SNES, with two milk crates full of cartridges, I have confirmed this to be what allowed me to discover my greatest hobby. (aside from tinkering with machines)

3. The Christmas around when the Gamecube launched along with Luigi's Mansion and Pikmin(two of my favorite games of all time) again given to me by my Dad.

So yeah my dad is awesome, my mom gets points for having no problem with my gaming habits though.

My dad got a PS3 for Solstice, and got a couple games for my brother and I. For my brother, he got Killzone 2. For me, he got Prototype, because he really only looked at covers and thought it looked "sorta fantasy-ish. You like that stuff, right?" I love that game so much. Of course, after watching about five minutes of gameplay he was set on taking it back, but I was able to convince him otherwise.

That event also got me into gaming, and the TVTropes article ended up introducing me to Yatzee and therefore the rest of the Escapist. So yeah, it was pretty awesome.
