Alright:

1)Serj Tankian: Amazing voice and great range. And because he is god.(System of a Down)

2)Mikael Åkerfeldt: Because his clean vocals are amazing and his growls are amazing and terrifying live.(Opeth)

3)Till Lindemann: His voice is just so badass and powerful. Plus how he rolls his R's is just epic.(Rammstein)

4)Marco Hietala: Because his voice is like a a roaring hurricane given form.(Tarot/Nightwish)

5)Dio: Haven't been listining to him that long but he is a pretty amazing singer.

6)James Hetfield: Cause it's James fucking Hetfield.(Metallica)

7)Randy Blyth: His screams and growls are inhuman.(Lamb of God)

8)Nathan Explosion: How can someone death growl and sing that fast?(Dethklok)

9)Daron Malakian: Caus S.O.A.D is the greatest band to ever be formed.

10)Troy Sanders/Brent Hinds/ Brann Dailor: This trio form one of the greatest metal bands going, combined they are powerhouse of contrasting vocals that support each other magnificently. And Troy is the great grandson of cnl. Sanders, the kfc guy. Yeah chicken ftw.(Mastodon)

EDIT: I just remembered. An honourable mention goes to Howard Jones from Killswitch Engage. Though an extremely diverse and badass singer, I felt he didn't quite live up to the other guys here though. But that's my opinion.

Troy Sanders (Mastodon) - epic

Brent Hinds (Also Mastodon) - If a T-Rex had a voice, it would sound just like Brent Hinds. As some one else said, he just bellows. When he starts screaming, my face seriously starts to bubble and slowly melt off.

Serj Tankian (System of a Down) - Very unique. He lost some of his edge after Toxicity though.

Oh, and JAMES HETFIELD. Just awesome. He can do it all, heavy, soft, fast, snarling, chugging, even a growl here or there. Also, he's also one of the best live metal entertainers ever. Oh, and he does it all while playing some of the most mind bogglingly awesome riffs.

By the way, I have nothing against Megadeth as totally respect everything they have done and continue to do for the genre. I even kind of like them. But Dave Mustaine's voice makes me want to pull my spinal cord out through my anal sphincter. Sweet riffs and solos though.

List your top ten vocalists in metal music and why

1. Rob Halford - Though Dio does have a better voice than him, Rob can do almost any vocal style from his high yells to death metal grows.
2. Dio - Do I need to explain why?
3. Bruce Dickinson - His voice is just so electric.
I was gonna just jump in here and yell [HEADING=3]BRUCE-MOTHERFUCKIN'-DICKINSON[/HEADING]

But there's no need.

Oh yeah and Rob and Dio, yeah they're awesome.

Mikkel Sandager has my vote! Then again, I'm kind of a HUGE Mercenary fan...

What? Three pages in and no love for Mathias Blad [http://www.blad.nu/]? I know Falconer isn't exactly a typical metal band, but he's just got a gorgeous voice.

Let's see... in no particular order, here are my 10 11 favorite male vocalists from the awesome world of metal. Well, no particular order after the first name on the list anyways.
  • Jørn Lande - [small](ex-Yngwie Malmsteen, ex-Vagabond, ex-Mundanus Imperium, ex-The Snakes, ex-Millenium, ex-Ark, ex-Beyond Twilight,
ex-Brazen Abbot, Jorn, Allen/Lande, Masterplan, Avantasia, Ayreon
, probably some more I'm forgetting)[/small]. Why? Because he's freaking Jørn Lande - the dude is 9 different kinds of awesome. A surefire way to get me to listen to something is to simply tell me Jørn Lande was involved. He's like the re-incarnation of David Coverdale, even though Coverdale is still technically alive.

Russell Allen - [small](Symphony X, Allen/Lande, Ayreon, Arjen Lucassen's Star One)[/small]. Russell has been the vocalist for the American progressive metal band Symphony X for quite some time, and has contributed his vocal talents to various Arjen Lucassen projects in the past, as well as the absolutely inspired Allen/Lande collaboration with Jørn Lande (Magnus Karlson was a freaking genius getting them to sing together like that). He is almost as awesome as Jørn.

Mathias Blad - [small](Falconer)[/small]. If you've ever listened to Falconer, you may not be familiar with him because they released two albums with a different lead vocalist towards the middle of their discography. But if you have listened to any of the various albums he sang on, you'll know exactly why he's on my list - the dude has an awesome voice.

Jonny Lindkvist - [small](Nocturnal Rites)[/small]. Jonny's vocal talents are a large part of why I find Nocturnal Rites so darn compelling. If I had to be critical I'd suggest he's not as technically proficient as the three vocalists above him on this list, but what he does he does extremely well. Nocturnal Rites' songs kick ass.

Hansi Kürsch -[small](Blind Guardian, Demons & Wizards, Ayreon)[/small]. If you even need an explanation for Hansi's appearance on this list, I deem your life critically low on freaking awesome.

Devin Townsend - [small](ex-Steve Vai, ex-Strapping Young Lad, ex-Devin Townsend Band, Devin Townsend Project)[/small]. Devin is one of those rare individuals who are crazy awesome in part because they're actually crazy (he's been diagnosed as bi-polar, and for at least one of his albums his inspiration was to stop taking his meds). The various albums he's released run the gamut of genres and styles, but one thing at least that's consistent is his highly versatile vocal talents.

Roy Khan - [small](Kamelot, Conception)[/small]. There are many reasons I enjoy Kamelot, and Khan is most of them.

Fabio Lione - [small](Rhapsody of Fire, Ayreon)[/small]. If you've ever heard any Rhapsody (of Fire) album since 1997, you'll know exactly why I'm putting him on this list. If you haven't, why the hell not? Rhapsody gets Christopher freaking Lee to narrate their albums! Fantasy metal kicks ass.

Bjørn Jansson - [small](Tears of Anger, ex-Ride The Sky, ex-Beyond Twilight)[/small]. In a somewhat aggravating twist, the bands that got me interested in Bjørn are the ones he doesn't sing for anymore, either because they broke up (Ride The Sky), or because keeping a consistent lead vocalist is something other people do (Beyond Twilight, they haven't had the same vocalist on any of their albums). But since he was awesome on those efforts, his name has been added to my "I will listen to anything provided you tell me it has [insert vocalist here] in it" shortlist.

D.C. Cooper - [small](ex-Royal Hunt, Silent Force)[/small]. I'm perhaps not quite as prone to raving about the vocal talents of D.C. Cooper as I am about the other names on this list, but he's a consistently enjoyable vocalist associated with bands I like, so onto the list he goes.

Mikkel Sandager - [small](ex-Mercenary)[/small]. How could I forget to put him on this list?! I totally didn't forget to add Mikkel to my list of awesome male metal vocalists, no sirree! The news that he'd left Mercenary was rather disheartening, hopefully the new guy will be able to carry on in his shoes. I don't envy him though, as Mikkel will be a tough act to follow.

Heh, I was apparently typing up my praises for him as you posted that. It's truly shameful that everyone else ignored him though!

Honestly I'm surprised more people aren't, Mercenary is barely ever mentioned in discussions of metal (you're actually the first other person besides myself I've ever seen bring them up here).

Dave Mustaine's style is unique, for that you can give it credit. It is also an acquired taste, and I love it.
