I don't get it.

What is this link supposed to show us?

EDIT: Isn't it another poster who says 'your prayers are worthless?

EDIT 2: So a guy is telling a rich kid to donate money? This is the big deal?

EDIT 3: LAST EDIT, I SWEAR!!!!! Check some more sources, he actually has donated money. As a matter of fact, he is matching all of us common folks donations to red cross. So the more we pay, the more he matches.

Sucks when people we hate for no real reason do things that are kinda decent, eh?
That's pretty much what I was thinking... why is this news?
OT: I've seen tons of people say such things as, "Oh God, I feel so sorry for Japan! I'm praying for them!!" if they care so much, maybe they should donate?
I haven't helped much but at least I've done something =/

Anyway, I hope the famous people who are asking us to donate are donating them self. There's nothing worse than watching someone who earns in a week what you you earn in a year telling you to give up on your money D:

The guy's donated to the Japanese relief effort and he's sending his best wishes to the people who are suffering.
His music's crap, but that Twitter post can hardly be described as "schooling" him.

In my experience, celebrities that mention a natural disaster or any other cause which requires donations are usually a spokesperson for one of the charities, or have donated some money in some way. Whether it be through a concert where all the proceeds go to charity or through donating themselves. Mentioning a cause and not donating or doing something for it will result in backlash from the media which they don't want. I haven't donated anything to Japan, so I am not going to judge Justin Bieber for saying that his prayers are with them, as he has donated far more than I have. At no point do I recall that he asked anyone else to pray, just to help. People shouting "Prayers don't work!" is quite pathetic. People have their own ways of making life a bit more comfortable and bearable for them, and if prayer does that, then it's none of your damn business, and you have no right shouting "Prayers don't work!" you just come away looking like a pathetic child.

Oh joy. More bashing people for using the word "prayers" because hey, religious people deserve to be mocked at any opportunity right? Yeah, lets just forget everything else and make ourselves feel better by bashing others for daring to care about others. I have been here a single day and have already come across 3 threads of just insulting people for daring to offer their prayers.

Lets clear up a few things okay.

1: The kid has already donated a metric fuck-tonne of money. More than any of you ever will.

2: Anyone saying "If I was him I would donate every single cent I had" is a goddamn liar. You would not. Want proof? Why have you not emptied your bank accounts and sold off your assets now? Maybe you have donated a little, maybe what you could comfortably spare, maybe you put off buying a game or two. If so then good for you. But do not think that gives you the right to say how much others should give.

3: Offering prayers does not mean they are not going to do anything else as well as pray.

4: Prayers do help. Anyone who thinks otherwise is just being a anti-theist douchebag and clearly has not heard the term "moral/emotional support"

5: Not everyone can donate money or fly over to help rebuild. But you bashing them for simply offering their best wishes is petty and spiteful.

I know that being a anti-theist on the internet is "cool" these days but really, the petty, spiteful stupidity of a lot of you honestly disgusts me.
There is a time and place for everything. You want to be anti-theist, fine. Save it for the next WBC rally. Insulting people over this is contemptible.
This. Very much this.

I gotta say that the more vitriolic the hatred towards this Bieber kid gets, the less I hate him. An annoying little twerp perhaps, but Jesus, listen to yourselves people! Why not direct your anger towards more deserving targets? People who're actively screwing people for money instead of an annoying pop-idol.

A fair point. I'm glad the advice has been taken.
Creating terrible, terrible music does not necessarily make you a bad person. I really hate how people pray fr others, though. It's kind of condescending, though the intention is n doubt noble.

I figured he already did. Most celebs are quick to respond to this kind of things. So the guy didn't boast about his donation, and someone else called him out for it.
Shame on that rep.

This thread makes for funny reading. Celebrity twitter feeds are serious business...

I don't think this warranted a thread. But, the response(which seemed jovial to me)is pretty funny considering the...sort of platitudinal/political rhetoric with which Bieber's post was crafted.

Lighten up, escapist...life will be a hell of alot more fun.

Eh. I've never really noticed anyone hating Bill Gates specifically.
It's Microsoft as a company that gets the serious hate.
Although I guess that reflects on Bill Gates by virtue of the fact that it was his company.

That message was just really hateful, very negative to a harmless post made by a kid. I think the amount of hate he gets could make him have negative emotional effects maybe...

TAKE THE LINK. LOOK AT BIEBERS POST. LOOK AT RESPONSE TO BIEBERS POST.

Sorry for caps. But yea ^ that.

Yeah, it's not that great. Hell, it's not even okay.

I hate justine as much as any man, or any woman who menstruates or isn't a pedophile. But this is like screaming BURNED after your own joke. Hell, it probably IS screaming burned after your own joke.

In summary, unfunny.

Well, I'd have to disagree with you, mostly in the sense that you should really take in to account the context of what the prayer is for.

Essentially, If I were you and did not believe in god, then simply ignore God from the scenario. This isn't a "I'm praying for your souls". It's basically a declaration saying, I'm thinking about you, and sending my best wishes that good fortune comes your way, and that you may get through your misfortune easier.

In this context, "Keep them in your prayers." is essentially the same as "Keep them in your thoughts." There's really nothing condescending about it, all it means is that someone that believes in God is hopeful that hard times for you end.

No, the big deal is that some kid with a shit load of money and a BS reputation for being "not-a-douche" thinks of sending a prayer(an act of folding ones hand and asking GOD really nicely to help them that usually doesn't work unless you do it frequently and with meaning) over money(something that could do some REAL good over a deity who works in small and mysterious ways never directly showing himself).
1) What world do you live in where Justin Bieber has a "not-a-douche" reputation?

2) How do you know what his financial dealings are?

3) You sound insulting towards people who pray for others.

4) Why am I sounding like I'm defending some pop idol?

5) Bill Gates is one of the most generous (ranked as the second most generous philanthropists in America in 2007) people to have ever lived. (Donation wise)

I just wanted to throw that last point out there for no other reason than Bill gets a lot of unreasonable hate too. I think it's mostly his wife doing it tho.
Actually, Bill Gats gets a lot of hate because of the long, long list of problems present in Microsoft products. Red Ring of Death, numerous windows crashes, how difficult and obtuse windows is to use, the fact that pressing CTRL ALT DEL on vista won't let you simply exit out of an unresponsive program (like a videogame) and close it, but rather allows you to turn off the entire computer or switch profiles (which is ridiculous, I could easily choose to do those things if I wanted after I had closed a non responsive program), Games for Windows Live, as well as problem upon problem with an overwhelmingly large number of other things Microsoft does.

People hate him because the company he has a lot of control over releases faulty, obtuse products and services.

Babs got smacked down for his inane comment as he should have been.
Also, would anyone care to reference these 'numerous sources' for the supposed 'millions'?

Come on, let's see some reliable information!
Quick google search has the info. Apparently he's doubling the donations of everyone on his fan site for the next 24 hours.
In which case, the Twitter comment stands righteous.

Babs is a poser. Why match donated funds when he has more than enough money already?
Surely he's got a superfluous hundred thousand or so he could donate already?

You can't possibly be this dumb.

He's doing it to encourage more people to donate. This way, he doubles the amount of money the charities receive.

At the end of the day, the Twitter response was baseless. Saying "I'm praying for them" is not the same as saying, "I'm not giving them money." To assume so is stupid. Then again, what should I expect from people who spend so much time criticizing music meant for children.
