This. I bloody hated that movie and can't understand why it got so much praise
I also hate that movie, but I can understand why it got so much praise. Besides the ending, it was a wonderful movie. It had an well-written plot and interesting characters.

But then there was the ending.

Good god, there was the ending. Honestly, the ending's what ruined the entire movie for me, it was such a let-down. Hell, if they had ended it ten minutes earlier, I would have loved the movie from start to finish. But they didn't, and thus I hate it.

The Descent had a really stupid "real" ending...

After murdering her best friend and leaving others to die in the name of survival, the main heroine climbs a tower of bones with the monsters on her heels, bursts out of the ground, dashes to her car, drives a ways down the road stops and cries.

Unfortunately, this is all a halucination and she's really still in the cave hallucinating her daughter while the monsters close in on her.

What the shit? The "false" ending was so much better, she would have had to live with the horrible things she did to survive... it was so soul shatteringly bleak that the "real" ending felt like a "dun dun dun" slap to the face.
Actually, there are two versions of the film: the American, and the British.

In the American, the film ends with the main heroine escaping the cave systems. However, in the British ending, like you mentioned before, it is revealed that that was all just a hallucination.

I don't know. Personally, I like the British version better, but that's just my opinion, and I can see how people would hate it.

Anyone see the ending to War of the Worlds? If not, don't.
Agreed. Also, an additional thing that made me angry in the ending of the 2006 version is

the fact that the teenager survived! He was caught in a fucking explosion, and even if he survived that, he would be caught face-to-face with a giant death machine! I mean, we've established that the tripods take very few prisoners, and the few they take are likely experimented on/killed in a non-descript fashion! He should be a charred corpse, vaporized dust, a bloodless husk or a dead anal probe victim.
That, and why the fuck did the Tripods start breaking down? Well, ok, I know why but...

it's an enormous plot-hole! The aliens develop machines that shoot disintegration rays and nearly take over the earth, but they can't make protective suits? WTF is up with that?
the Tripods are Biomechanical, the biological bits bites the dust.
Fair enough, though it didn't seem to be made clear in the movie.

None really, but one film's ending I felt cheated at was I Am Legend. What a shockingly bad and obviously rushed ending.

Yeah, I feel the same way.

OT:
The Matrix sequels.
I mean... come on!
Ruined a potentially good franchise.
I thought were awesome.

Just remembered another 2 I hate: Wanted and Requiem for a Dream
Through-out the movie the main character is lead to believe that Cross, a former member of the Fraternity, killed his father and other Assassins of Fate just because he was jealous and hates them now. However, it turns out that the Fraternity leader, Morgan Freeman, lied to him and Cross was actually his father. So he ends up killing his own father. This leads him to kill EVERY SINGLE person working for the Fraternity, even though he's had just about a month or two of actual training compared to the other assassins who've been training for years. So the whole transformation the main character goes through is from being a pussy to being a douchebag. There's also a very cheesy line at the end where he breaks the 4th wall.
The happy ending is just a hallucination and the characters have actually just ruined all their lives unintentionally. Great.

ok but its been awhile. somewhere in that movie he made a phone call? or met some dude and asked for a favour. thats what happened right at the end when he deliberately surrendered so that guy would walk him out past the army(?) or whatever was surrounding the churuch/catherdral/building(?) this is when his "favour" kick into action and pulled him out. when i understood that i was like "thats kinda cool" but its excuted in such a way that you have no idea whats going on unless you pay attention to all the details.

I Am Legend. Although, that wasn't quite so out of the blue as the others that have been mentioned, since the whole thing just went downhill in about the 3rd half. Still a bullshitty ending, though.

You should see the alternate ending, its even worse.........

Yeah, but the whole movie made a absolute mockery of the book...
Actually the correct ending was filmed, but discarded for being too contreversial with the audience. Apperatly killing them all is less contreversial than understading them.
Sorry the correct ending? The film is almost nothing like the book, the ending isn't even close. (if thats what you ment)

The Mist

Spolier (durh)

The dude kills his son and the other people in the car with him. Then he runs out of the car screaming for the monstors to come kill him. 2 seconds later, the army rolls in to save the day, making his mercy killing pointless.

The book was open ended! Why not the movie?!
Because this was a much more heartwrenching ending and one that Steven King praised himself.
