FF XIII, I had been a fan of the series for years but it has just worn so thin now. I'm tired of the same game repackaged and another number put on it.

Just have to disagree; Fallout:NV made up for the disappointment that was fallout3 in just about every way. The writing is simply fantastic, the world feels bigger and more alive and the added features are totally worth it. As a whole it was only held back by having way too few testers and the Gamebryo engine.
Fair enough, each to their own and all that. I missed the atmospheric underground system, the big shock horror aspects of Fallout 3; such as the Dunwich Building, the mannequins and the rest of that. I'll agree that NV has better writing, and story, but to me the world is too similar, and the only parts worth exploring are the vaults, of which there are a tiny number.
Id have to say that new vegas appeals more to fans of the original fallouts, personally, i started with Fallout 3 i liked that game but some things just put me off it after a while, I played fallout 1, originally i couldnt stand it, but i ended up loving a second time through, fallout 2 seems kinda meh. I think the problem with number 3 was how it went for the really dark stuff/ horror theme as opposed to the originals dark humor, with a little horror elements. Dont get me wrong though, for what it is Fallout 3 is an amazing game, i just think that New Vegas was just better

OT: Um i dunno really, ive been strapped for cash most of this year but i will say that i was a little dissapointed with Tekken 6, I love the fighting system, its easily my favourite in any fighting game EVER, but there were a few letdowns, number 1 is scenario campaign, the tekken system just is designed for fighting more than 1 character at a time, number 2 was Azazel, you'd have thought that Namce would have learnt its lesson after Jinpachi, but no they didnt, and azazel is the shit that was produced
Lastly, the online system leaves ALOT to be desired

Red Dead Redemption. Controls felt like shit, game wasn't immersive and both Jack and John Marston sounded like whiny little bitches every single time they said anything.

Edit: Also, Sniper Ghost Warrior.

Bad Company 2.

Come on, DICE. Can you not do a good single-player campaign to save your life? I mean, yeah, the multiplayer was really good, but I get that from games like Black Ops, too, and their single player doesn't SUCK.

Oh, and Halo: Reach. Forgettable single-player, frustrating as-hell-MP. On a bright side, incredibly fun to play with friends. But, again, I can get that fun from Black Ops and even that doesn't frustrate me that much (alright, I can't, there are no community games on herefor BlOps and there are for Reach, because the Halo Escapist group is totally awesome).

Well, I tend to look on the bright side of video games, and I try to make sure I only buy stuff I like, so I can only really say Metroid: Other M.

I see that I'm apparently the only one who really liked Bioshock 2. I know that it's cool to hate on it and all, but I still like it.

New Vegas. A buggy, less immersive version of Fallout 3. Perhaps it was my fault for playing its predecessor to death. Even without the bugs it was too similar to 3, with most of the 'new features' being gimmicks at best.
would have to highly disagree, i fell asleep and got so bored in fallout 3, it took me like 6-7 times to finally get into the game, which even then was with a piss ton of mods and my own music playing in the background over all that crap, new vegas was a HUGE step up on everything that f3 failed on, which was characters/plot/factions/interesting quests/aliveness and size ratio of world

ot: i was really really hoping for ff13 to be different from what it was...

i expected too much from it, its not a horrible game..but just...fuck.

Final Fantasy XIII: To be honest I enjoyed the game. But it coulda been so much more.

Red Dead Redemption: Massively over-rated. Got bored with it after a few hours with nothing happening.

Metroid: Other M: As somebody recently stated : It's more or less fanfiction. The concept was good but just honestly didn't feel like Samus at all.

Worst Brand Loyalty Cash-in: FF14 and FU2, the only reason these games sold at all are because of die-hard fans who will buy anything that belongs to that franchise, and im sure the developers knew it, because if that's the best they can do then its just sad.

Worst Repackaging: Halo Reach and Fable 3, Microsoft ties with itself for the worst cases of repackaging games as sequels. When the biggest indication that the game is a sequel is the cover art of the box, then give us our money back.

Worst Canon-Shredder: Metroid: Other M, Id like to know who thought it was just peachy to take a character well known for being calm, collected, independent and strong and turn her into a whiny, emotional, clingy, exploited glob of dried pus. Eat a dick Team Ninja.

Biggest Disappointment (for me): Mass Effect 2, when I pop in a game that claims to be an RPG, I look for 1. Exploration 2. Customized play styles and 3. Murky shades of morality. ME2 provided none of these for me. All I had left was a combat system that was disjointed from the rest of the presentation and didn't offer any depth, a customization system that supported exactly 1 style of play, a morality system that made my decisions for me and an exploration system consisting of text boxes and hallways. The only thing I was sure of after playing was that Shepard has dissociative identity disorder and apparently Miranda's ass and the camera must have magnets hidden in them because they seems to get stuck together whenever shes around.

Halo Reach: I loved Halo 1-3 but... I don't know, this one just didn't do it for me. Only played the single player once through and like 15 hours of multiplayer (which is bad for me because most of my time is usually devoted to multiplayer). Wish I had just waited another month and only bought Black Ops instead of both =/

It didn't come out this year, but I bought it this year. The Penumbra series. It has frustrating combat that is either too hard (Try killing a spider with a pickaxe, I dare you) or too easy (Throw barrel at dog, wait two seconds, repeat) it's also not as scary as I thought it would be (Except those fucking worms! Those are horrifying!).

Although I wasn't expecting it to be as funny as it is, a lot of the written dialogue has a sarcastic edge to it.

2010 was just a nonstop parade of safe sequels and copycats. I'm having a hell of a time coming up with any games that didn't disappoint. I know that's a cliched response to this sort of topic, but I can't help it. This industry is really, really stagnant right now.

I'm goin' with Limbo. I got all psyched up thinking I was in for an incredibly original minimalist dark-creepshow side-scroller...but sadly that's not what I got. What a got was a boring masterpiece of meh that was difficut solely for the sake of being difficult.

God of War 3, it was just a bloody mess with no story and some really bad platform mechanics. It saddened me that such an amazing series died out in such a poor way

EDIT: Oh and also Final Fantasy XIII which has made me not want to buy another Final Fantasy ever again and I was an avid fanboy

Civilization V - It is worse than Civilization IV in every way possible.

Also there weren't any good RPGs this year, that's just a failure of the industry in general.

lol @ anyone saying FFXIII was a disappointment. Amazing game was amazing. Best battle system in the entire series, with only X's coming remotely close.
I have to say that it is my least favourite game in the series. I didn't even get past the first part of it because all the characters were boring, just like the action.

This whole year was a letdown. I think the only '10 games I played was VVVVVV, Metro 2033, and Just Cause 2. The latter two weren't letdowns but they aren't anything memorable for me. Everything else was a sequel to a game I didn't play the original of. And I don't care what the gaming sites say, Bioshock 2 does not exist.
