mmm this is a bit tough, i have decently low expectations on some things, as i know what i like and dont like

however, for discussions sake:

-Socom confrontation, i played the first 3 like it was no ones business, i dont think as a kid i put more time into any game/series as much as those, and when i finally got a ps3 this past year i had heard of the game on the ps3 and i was so bloody damn excited to play it again i swear i popped a boner putting in the game into the ps3 for the first time.

-poppped it in, only to find out there is no single player.
*fine.whatever, i played multiplayer mostly anyways*
-joins match, realizes how shitty the game movement and controls had become
*fuck.well maybe it gets better, i just got to get used to it*
-plays game for literally 16 hours straight.
*fuck this game. this is fucking garbage, the originals are fucking amazing! wtf!*

yeah i immediately took the game back and sold it, i was so pissed off on how poorly implemented it was. socom 4 is coming out this next year, and this one is by zipper, it looks not too shabby...but literally, if they just redid the graphics and put the old games on the ps3, i'd spend easily 150-200 dollars in a heartbeat to have those games. i miss them so freaking much.

besides that i haven't been disappointed too much..there was mw2 but gonna avoid that rage and complete bullshit of a sequel.
I hear you. SOCOM was awesome on the PS2. I remember downing tangos with Boomer for hours.

Ahh memories.....
holy shit. there is actually someone on here who has played that game and liked it as much as i did.

seriously, that game had it all right for a ps2 game

-muting
-booting annoying people/cheaters
- the legendary "GRENADAAAAA!" war cry from terrorists
-maps that actually made sense and could be used strategically
-clans/clan control that actually works well in games
-custom games actually counted toward your rank (i hated playing in regular games with the 2-3 shitty maps consistently popping up)
-and personally, i think it had the perfect ratio for camouflage, you could blend in if you did it just right in certain areas, but if you were moving around and such your ass was easier to spot than godzilla in a barren town.

I have yet to find a shooter like socom these days that gets all these things right, AND is fun to play.
I'm not holding my breath for Socom 4 because from what I say it is a 3rd person COD now. Regenerating health, the guy isn't wearing a f'n helmet, open battles all over the place.

I loved the PS2 SOCOM's for being a tactical stealth shooter, and didn't progress in the game until I finished the level flawlessly

Even though this does include video games I would just like to expand a bit beyond games and say that the Star Wars brand as a whole (movies, games etc) was a massive pile of donkey shit. The prequels were garbage (yeah I know the first one came out in 99), most all of the games besides KOTOR were garbage, and that one animated movie was a super special type of garbage all unto it's own.

Looking into the future I have so little hope going forward. I think Old Republic will be mediocre at best and ultimately be crushed under the weight of it's own hype and rereleasing all the movies in 3D might be the worst decision since nipples on the batman suit. Yep the Star Wars brand is truly a steaming pile of shit.

The continued dumbing down of gaming, and release of steadily more shovelware a la CoD & Halo & more.

Blizzard plaguarising games workshop (More) and releasing subpar games. Monster Hunter Portable 3 not coming to north america.

That about does it.
Subpar games from Blizzard? Wut?

Life...nah, Sonic Riders should have never been a thought.
Respectfully, I disagree. I actually thought Sonic Riders was a pretty good game, if not a little frustrating at times. I gave it a 7.5, kind of a C+ sorta grade.
Growing up were Sonic was the fastest, a C+ doesn't seem very promising.
Considering the circumstances, if the game were a tad easier, it would've gotten a B-, but this game was overly hard at times. The difficulty was all that was stopping it.

Not too sure what to make of 'this decade'...

If it's the one that started with 2000, my biggest disappointment is Spore. :(

If it's the one that started this year, I would have to say the way WotLK turned out.

The new Socom footage is not too promising. But this was gold.

Mah biggest disappointment this year: Sonic 06. This was the one game, the ONE game I was hoping would FINALLY be a revival for the 3-D sonic games, but now they don't even deserve to be 6 feet under. No, the 3-D sonic games deserve to be stoned (stones thrown at them) flogged 50 times, kicked and beaten, then, hung from a razor wire noose, while being stabbed with rusty spoons. Yes, I do spend a lot of my time thinking about ways to torture my trespassers, why must you ask?
Indeed. It irritates me to pay full price for an unfinished product. With several bugs, bad control and having about 50% of my game time spent on the loading screen.

However, another game I recall that dissapointed me greatly was Rayman Raving Rabbids.

I loved rayman 3 (I played the first one, but unfortunately not the second one) and was generally a fun platformer. I expected raving rabids to be a cool new platform game to launch with the wii for my christmas present, and instead I get a party game. Thank gooodness I got twilight princess as well that time.

I didn't know other people were so affected by SOCOM too. Ghost Recon is just not he same. :p

Best invisible helicopter level ever.
you are very right, i enjoyed socom so much, then i saw ghost recon and thought "heh, this looks like it might be pretty good too!" and i played through the whole campaign and was severely disappointed..i popped it out, shrugged, and took it back to find something else.

even the glitches/bugs in socom were amazing! i honestly can't think of one glitch or bug that wasn't cool or fun in some way (unless you had a shitty invisible wall somehow)

i enjoyed FFXIII. but it is still the biggest disappointment because the sheer amount of time we had to wait for it suggested a truly great game. square should learn from valve.

Enchanted Arms. Let's all try and forget about that piece of shit. Seriously, the game's graphics hardly looked half finished, even for the time period it was released. Not to mention one of the clunkiest battle systems, packed with horrible camera limitations. As if to make things worse, it was just one of those games that scaled down from HD to SD so horribly that I couldn't read a single word on the screen, minus the dialogue text. On that note, the voice overs were so bad that on my first playthrough I actually shut it off after the first scene. It was that bad.

Games/movies:

-Finally getting round to playing Half-Life 2, after loads of build-up from a couple of my friends, and then finding it mind-numbingly boring.

-Resistance 2. The story was muddled, the characters we were apparently supposed to care about were poorly written (Capelli was being set up to become the protagonist in the third game, for goodness sake, they could have at least written him so that he was interesting).

-Devil May Cry 2. Utter balls. The third one pulled the series back into being good again, though.

-When my PS3 pulled a 'yellow light of death' on me and wiped the hard drive.

-Spider-Man 3. Just... why, Sam? Why?

-X-Men 3. I even saw it twice, because it was so shitty that I refused to believe it the first time. "Surely.... SURELY it can't have been that bad? I must have fallen asleep and missed something important. Maybe there was a missing reel in the projector? Maybe... aaaaah, wait, a second, what the fuck am I doing here again? Fucking hell."

-Watchmen. I adore the book, and stupidly let blind optimism guide me to believe that the film was somehow going to "get it right" and do it justice. I was very wrong.

They're all the ones I can think of right now. A decade is a long time to look back over, I can't remember everything. :p

Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising

Codemasters, why don't you just stick with racing games, you're good with those...

To me dissappointment is realative to how excited I am, Spore wins but I wasn't really all that excited about it, I saw it in the store said to myself "it's finally out cool" and didn't care that it wasn't that great.

On the other hand I am a huge Final Fantasy fan, I had been waiting years for 13,I went to the midnight release, I bought the collectors edition guide, I took time off of work. Then in the end I had to force myself to beat it and haven't picked it up since.

New Vegas is in the same category due to bugs, but I have hope that they will fix it via patches.

Cliff notes:

Biggest dissapointment to the gaming community. Spore
Biggest dissapointment to me. Final Fantasy 13
