I really hate the "it was all a dream" ending. It's so unimaginative.

The guy who thought of it first must have had everyone believe he was a genius.

True, but overtime, it has just become an excuse for a writer to be lazy. Like in the show Life on Mars (US). I really liked that show but the ending pissed me off. I know they were cancelled and all but they could've done better than that.

Could it have ended any other way.

One of the biggest twists I've seen in a movie must have been the ending of Saw I. Those last few moments let you see the move in the completely different regard. I feel that each sequel in the Saw saga reduced this "wow" factor, although I did get a sense of accomplishment with Saw V which only makes any sense at all if you've seen the previous four. I really wonder what they're going to do with Saw VI [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1233227/].
