This is just one of the good examples of how politicians never think things through and that they never ever do any research.

It reminds me of this little jewel of law making.

It wont go through as the cost of policing it would be astronomical. Also I'm not a US citizen so...*shrug*

this would be like shooting the whole entertainment industry in leg and salting the wound for good measure.
not gonna happen, this is one of the few cases where the influence of big corporations on politics may be a good thing since at least Hollywood (and the game industry anyway) know how much free marketing this is.

It makes me think of THE TIME BEFORE THE INTERNET when I had to read computer games magazines and hope they weren't talking total bullshit or being paid off. Yes companies would control who uses footage of thier games people!

The bill says you need to make at least 2500 hundred dollars in the equivalent of ten views before your breaking the law.

Youtube is fine, it's streamers and people from TGWTG that are in trouble.

The bill is fair enough to things like music and movies. Games, however, are as X said,
"You know you can buy that game, and have that same experience yourself, but in your own way."
That's how games work, and without youtube, games just wouldn't sell.
They wouldnt? Jesus, how did the game industry survive so long without Youtube being around to make their games sell.
He may have some point with Youtube, I think that youtube is a great way to let other people that are not that much into gaming (that dont go to gaming sites) what games are out there.

Games never sold as much as now but they managed to mantain profit because of their production values, they are more expensive to make now and need to sell more to have profit.

Youtube (and other websites) may help a bit to promote the game.
Theres a lot of factors as to why more games are sold now than years ago. Youtube might have helped, but most games now are selling on the merits of the franchise they belong to.

I don't think game companies would have a problem with people streaming their stuff. Streaming a movie or a song, could potentially be a loss to the guys who made it. I know guys who stream new movies rather than go to the cinema. Games getting show online though, since theyre an interactive experience, isn't the same, and sure it might help advertise the games. And it's free advertisement.

I'd be of the mind that if it applies to movies and music, it should apply to games as they too are copyrighted however that doesn't mean I want to see it go through. I don't see this getting far. At least without being reworded.

The only thing that annoys me about let's plays is when the channels I sub to on youtube go and put one up with a spoiler in the title.
I wasn't too specific was I? I meant that without Youtube, a lot of sales would go down.

I also agree with the spoilers in the titles... So damn irritating.

Impossible to enforce
illogical to even conceive.

However, there is a relevant point out of this. This sort of thing happens when the corporations behind these sorts of actions are encouraged and over supported by the public. If it not for the corporations duping people into chanting their mantra of "rabble rabble piracy is bad rabble rabble" you would not even see this.

Also...
and without youtube, games just wouldn't sell.
/shudder.....

I fear for a world when people cannot even conceptualize that the world existed before 2005.

this isnt my name said:
Thats stupid, it wont heppen. Besides im in the UK.

Gammes are better off with youtube, I need to look at footage first, if I cant I may never have purchased some of them e.g fallout 3 and Bioshock.
I'm in the UK too, and most of the people I watch on youtube for games are based in America.
Put two and two together and we have something terrible on our hands.

If this goes through, I would gladly welcome LulSec, Anonymous etc. to shut them down.

Even if it went through, how are they planning on regulate that much of the internet? Just youtube´s LP community alone would be impossible...

US really do need new people to govern for them, since these people still live in the 20th century...
I've been saying that for years. What we need to do is boot all the current office holders out, replace them with entirely new people (not one of whom's age exceeds 35), and then institute term limits for every office.

That would be 90% of everything on media sites. Not gonna happen.
this, and to be able to detect and monitor the amount of information going in and out on the internet for this...is maddening! there is no way they would be able to do that, AND ENFORCE IT at the same time.

Seriously if this makes it through, I am going to fucking rage so hard...

Hm...better beat Tomb Raider Legends, Underworld, and Anniversary before this bill passes. There's no way I'd be able to finish those games without the help of youtube.

Let's say this thing does pass and is actually enforced utterly and completely. The internet would become a pretty deserted place, don't you think? Or is that just me?

yes, there's a whole laundry list of things wrong with this. BUT, it has yet to go anywhere really. legions of bills, well-advised and otherwise, die in committee. I'll reserve the firey wrath until it's passed one house and is up for a vote in the other.

If it does happen, there would be tons of ways around it. One would be, Make an international buddie who also like watching Let's Plays, record the desired gaming footage, send the said footage to said international buddie via e-Mail and finally get the international buddie to upload it for you.
