1. Marijuana has more carcinogens then tobacco

2. I smoke a pack of smokes a day

3. I have to smoke 5 to 10 joints A DAY to do the same amount of damage

Wanna know why there are no recorded cases of lung cancer from pot? Except for Bob Marley and like types NO ONE SMOKES THAT MUCH POT EVERY DAY! 10 joints a day? I wish! I'd never not be stoned. I don't fall asleep from pot. After joint 2, I also don't get any higher. After a certain limit (different for each person) you don't get any higher.

1. You can o.d. on booze. It leads to death.

2. You can o.d. on pot. It leads to sleeping or panic attacks (at worst as far as I've ever seen)

It's pretty easy to take substances out of context of usage and make claims based on stats. Still doesn't make pot any more dangerous, you just end up looking like you don't really know what you're talking about.

Yog! For the love don't move! Help me get it legalized here! If you move to Cali I'll put a bounty on you so large you'll never be able to leave again after you're returned.

Right, as if you won't be right behind me if that bill passes!

I bet the law will make the age of use way higher then the drinking age if it does pass

This makes sense for the following reasons.

1. If legalized the government can put an age limit on who gets it which will seriously out a damper on 14 and 15 year old's getting it.

2. The government can impose tax and thus make money from it's sale.

3. Quality control: You will know it's good and that there's nothing bad mixed in with your hash.

Sorry if people have made these points all ready but I've had a few drinks and i couldn't be arsed reading through the post's.

1. I'm not so sure about that, as there is an age limit on alcohol but somehow 14 and 15 year olds still get a hold of it.
2. Agreed
3. Agreed

Tempting but my wife would then hunt us both down. She would probably love to join us, but she can't for various reasons.

If it does get legalized in Cali, we'll be close behind them. Especially since the current administration is highly unlikely to go after states (unlike the last one)

As it is now the bill says the age of use will be 21, just like alcohol (in the US anyway). It might get modified, though. I hope it doesn't.

Yeah, I'm sure you're right about WA following suit if the bill passes. But I'm still skeptical, and think it's little more than a pipe dream. Pun intended....

it may not make it impossible but it will certainly make it harder for them to get there hands on.

The problem is that if the government legalize Marijuana, they would probably put a very high tax an age restriction, thus making people buying from illegal sources because it would be cheaper and without restrictions, and then the traffic and health problems would increase.

So even if the law does get pass through the congress, it will take a very long time to modify the law to make it good for the state.

But i theorize from an ideal world where people prefer health benefits to cheaper products, and thus would buy from legal vendor's instead of illegal one's.

I know we don't live in an ideal world, but i have this overblown faith in humanity where i think everyone has common sense.

Wait, why wouldn't they? They let us have good alcohol.

Marijuana has no legitimate reason to be legalized as anything but prescriptive medication. Recreational drugs are for people who fail at life. This includes both cigarettes and alcohol, well at least when taken in more than moderate quantities.

If you need a substance to "get you through the day" then talk with your doctor or a psychiatrist. Then if you have an actual problem such as a chemical imbalance in your brain it can be diagnosed and treated. If you just need a "pick me up", get over it.

If you need to unwind do some exercise or read a book or listen to music. Much better for your health and more productive.

Traffic and health problems would increase over what? What we have now? Unlikely. Furthermore, once legalized, it will be much harder to keep folks from growing their own. "Hey that house smells like reefer!" "Yeah, and?" As long as you don't sell illegally and are smart, you can just about keep a plant or two around forever (bad luck notwithstanding)

There are some good arguements for legalising it, but often I hear a few of the bad ones being used. "Its only a plant", yeah so is coca and opium. "We waste millions fighting it", millions are spent fighting heron too, do we give up due to cost? or "We allow cigarettes...", two wrongs don't make a right.
Personally I've seen a friend go from straight A student to a bum living in a friends basement. Weed helped kill motivation, helped screw up her brain and shes definately an addict but as per any addict doesn't see it in herself. She says "I just need it to help me sleep", then "I just need it to relax", and slowly the habit formed until it changed from a want to a need. Of course I'm not saying that its anywhere near as bad as other drugs, and it certainly won't do that to everyone, but its definately had a massive negative impact on her life and my own view is forever tinted by the changes I have seen.
