Enjoying it a lot so far, but it seems like it's going to end far too fast for my taste. Trying to savour the moment, only just arrived at the beach.

Skyhooks - as I anticipated - are hella fun. Joyriding, weee!

The Hard difficulty is hard indeed. Turrets are the worst, or perhaps I just notice them far too late. Lots of frequent visits to the black and white room, but I hope I'm gonna get better with more tonics and Elizabeth around.

This game just feels right in so many ways. I definitely don't regret spending money the way I did.

Question: Is the game scary at all? Worse than Bioshock? It seems like straightforward historical thriller but I'm always prepared for messed-up stuff to happen.

Not gonna post spoilers but what I will say is that its very pretty, nice to see a shooter that is so vibrant and colourful. Elizabeth is brilliant as well, as awesome as Alyx Vance was but with even better gameplay.

The game looks and plays great. The setting is great, not as dark as Rapture, but certainly even more impressive. The first half hour of the game reminds of Half-Life, you just walk around and explore the setting, and it's remarkably well done, mostly due to the superb aesthetic and fantastic light engine. The game looks awesome without having super-high requirements.

The combat is excellent. Weapons have good impact and feel significant, the enemies are reasonably clever, move pretty fast and have a bunch of abilities, making the combat surprisingly frantic and exciting, if not particularly challenging (at least on normal difficulty). Everything about the gunplay is top-notch and the powers are much more interesting and useful this time around.

One problem I have with the gameplay is the scarcity of the resources: there is none. Just like in the original Bioshock, you can't go 10 meters without tripping over health, ammo and salt.

Overall, I'm liking this game a hell of a lot.

I am not far at all, and maybe it's because I almost never play FPS, but I am finding the level layout to be really confusing. (Really almost should be never, the closest thing to an FPS I have played before this was Mirrors Edge and a little bit of Fallout 3))

Yeah the lvels do branch out a little bit, use the nav-point :)

Yeah me too. I didn't like the first one that much either. Before I buy this one I have to know if it's any good, for people like me and Rocket Taco...
depends what you thought was wrong with bioshock 1/2? Its very similar but tighter combat.

I wouldn't say it was scary, not like system shock or the previous bioshocks where you fight monsters and that. Here you first regular people but its definitely creepy with its religious/ racist themes.

OT: I'm liking it so far, the first few hours before the fighting started had the whole wickerman something-is-off kind of creepy. Hard difficulty is damn hard but fun combat. Not a fan of the two weapon limit though - makes things harder than they have to be :/ Not sure why its there, feels like they forced it in so they could have elizabeth throw things at you...

I wonder if they got the challenge-balance right this time? I'm not gonna get half way and have it become a cakewalk am I? Not being able to stockpile health and powers has certainly made it harder.

Oh i'm not worried about that. It's the time-travel, supernatural or gory, and excessively foreboding or psychologically messed up stuff I can't take. Anything firmly rooted in reality is fine.

well i'm not sure if i'm the person to gage that, since i enjoy all that stuff XD

There is some technological weirdness, and it IS quite gory. Heads explode, skin melts in fire and a fair amount of blood during firefights.

I wouldn't call it a horror game though.

Started it today.
Finished it today.

And I liked it!
Though I am not going to spoiler anything for you guys. :p

In my opinion I preferred Bioshock 1 since I liked the horror theme though.
But Infinite's combat was improved a whole load and made the game fun.

I liked Booker and Elizabeth, and I didn't mind the look of Booker.
If I had to give it a rating I would give it an 8 out of 10.

BUT NO MORE ... I don't want to spoil.

I'm about 1 hour in, the game is beautiful and it's been amazing so far. The combat is awesome, though some of the places you end up fighting in seem a little too big. I'll be wandering around, and I can still hear enemies talking and looking for me, but I can't find them so I just move on. Also, the turrets can see you from entirely too far away. >.<

Trying to avoid spoilers on this but I do have one question. I don't play FPS, for whatever reason they just dont resonate with me. I am just wondering though, do I need to have played any of the first two Bioshocks in order to appreciate this game?

Everything I have read is pretty silent on this issue and while I don't play FPS this looks to be a good place to get involved in the genre. I am a big fan of a good story which is why I wanted to know if the story requires that you have played the originals. Thanks.

Not at all. Bioshock Infinite is set in an absolutely different place and hasn't got anything to do with Bioshock 1, except for the gameplay and larger themes.

You should definitely try the game, especially since it got a enthralling story and incredible gameplay.

Not been able to play it, Because i'm backwards and still use XP.

Slightly annoyed because steam doesn't actually provide any warning like it usually does that it's not compatible :(

Oh well

I got to the part where you first meet Elizabeth and take her from that one place to the next place. Took my sweet time in the opening section just because there was so much neat stuff to look at. As for the story... wow, there's a lot of WTF plot points which I hope will get explained later like...

Who the heck are those two British people that keep randomly appearing?

How did the prophet know I was coming, that I would pick the 77 ball, that I would have those letters tattooed on my hand?

Did Elizabeth just open a portal to the future? I heard a bit of "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" playing while the portal was open. Also, on the beach, I'm not sure if it was accidental or not, but some of the background music seemed to be using a slightly changed adaptation of the melody from "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun"

OMG WTF giant bird robot thingy.

What's up with that black and white room I keep going to with the people knocking on the door? Is that a flashback or a flash-forward or just Booker's imagination?

Anyway, I'm really intrigued by the story and the world so far, and I'm starting to learn how to handle the combat more effectively. This is promising to be really good.

I don't think so. Your character just starts walking and places his gun down sometimes. Otherwise you will walk normally and sprint. (However walking when you have the option to sprint means the walking is faster than the times where it forces you to walk.)
Hmm, that´s a shame. The left analogue stick really is the only thing I miss when playing on PC. Thanks for the info.
theres a walk button, but its not a toggle. you push it, you will be in 'walk' mode as long as you're moving, when you stop and carry on, you'll be back to normal speed, if that makes sense.

OT: about 2 and a half hours in, recently met elizabeth, but no combat with her yet, anybody as far as me knows what i mean. spent ages reading and watching everything in the intro though, feels nice for the city to be so alive.

however i was pretty dumbstruck when won the raffle and
got the option to be a racist asshole. i tried throwing it at the dick on stage, obviously...

I HAVE NOT THE TIME TO SCROLL DOWN!

And i did order it before the specifications became available.

Normally steam presents you with a warning box, as it does for other Non-XP games (X-Com, Just Cause)

I've not done much, I'm
at the point where you've just been gone into the Hall of heroes after the shock jockey

Spent ages wandering about when you first enter columbia though, it's amazing. I'm a big fan of the skyline travel aswell.
I love the new vigors, though because i'm slightly terrified of birds the amount of crows flying about is horrifying. I'm also impressed with Elizabeth - that's how companions in games should work. That moment it says she can look after herself in combat I breathed a huge sigh of relief. All in all i'm thoroughly impressed and ready to carry on after dinner.

EDIT: Having read your spoiler tags OP, I see you were at the same point I am. Pretty much agree with your impressions too.

I would love to know if anyone is in the same boat as me: despite desperately trying, I could never bring myself to like Bioshock. Everything I heard tell of it doing right (narrative, atmosphere, interesting and varied gameplay) I just couldn't see in it. Infinite looks a bit different and awesome, but all the reviews amount to "it's just as good as Bioshock." So does anyone who DIDN'T like the original have any impressions to share?
I didn't like the original in terms of gameplay but I did love the story even after the "would you kindly" reveal. In any case with this game, the gameplay is far better than the original especially with Elizabeth who is far and away the best companion I've ever played with. In terms of story however, I loved every bit of it until the ending was revealed. In my opinion, the ending was tedious, pseudo-intellectual garbage that only served to undermine the entire purpose of the game.

I love it so far; but I can see that there would be a lot to dislike for some; the two-weapon limit doesn't bother me at all, and the visors (so far) seem like rehashes of the plasmids, which is a shame, but it is a Bioshock sequel after all.
