Well its hard to be really scary when during half of the game a guy with a bad Irish accent that keep ordering you around
It's actually a very accurate Dublin accent.

That depends on your definition of scary. You like jump scares? Bioshock is not for you. Like atmosphere? Drink up, my friend, Bioshock is filled with it. That being said, though, the atmosphere really starts to come out best if you take your time to look at and listen to everything.

...Of course, that could be just my memory faltering, as I haven't played it in a while.

It's unsettling and atmospheric, and there's perhaps one or two scenarios that'll make you jump if you're nervously inclined. Nothing that will keep you from sleeping without the lights on, though. Give it a shot.

It isn't that kind of scary where you have things jumping out all over the place unexpectedly. The atmosphere is just...creepy.

I started it yesterday. I've played horror games, this isn't one. The atmosphere is creepy and cool, but not enough to frighten. I may have been too wrapped up in admiring the set design to allow myself to be taken in by the atmosphere.

Probably, but I thought he breaked the mood

No, not really. Creepy at first, but ennemies (and the game in general) arent dangerous or credible enough to deserve the name of "scary".. i actually found it to be hillarious more often than not.

And the way we respawn absolutely kill any challenge the game could have offered, making any challenging part a boring walk in the park.

For scary/horror/challenge, i still prefer the first F.E.A.R game.

It can be a bit unsettling. I just got it in the Steam sale (£3.49, Woo-Hoo!), and at the start there's a women standing over a pram, saying all this stuff, and if you listen too her, it's definately a bit disturbing.

Broke the mood.

Being Irish, I enjoyed hearing a decently done accent in a game for once. Pity I couldn't say the same about the guy from the Sabateur...

I just started playing it and I am scared just by the atmosphere (it lacks allot of optimism as such in FO3 wich isnt a bad thing) it also makes enemies apearing allot scarier

So ive never really been much into the scary video games due to my complete immersion and I feel completely vulnerable in them. I loved HL2 but it took me a few days to get through ravenholm because I would jump every time a head crab or head crab guy would run out at me through the dark rooms. But now that Bioshock is 5 bucks on steam and everyone raves about it I have to get it if I won't piss my pants playing it. It seems like it is set in a kinda dark and eerie world that I would like to experience but also don't know if it is my cup o tea. Anyone like to illuminate me on the subject?
I am IDENTICAL to you in terms of fear. Ravenholm was my hell. I borrowed Bioshock for a bit, and it was so immersive, I couldn't play it because it scared me too much. The tension kills me.

Though I agree that it might have a few scares or shocks here and there it isn't by any means horror/scary. I was actually rather ensorcelled by the surroundings.
