Why not get both? They're both two years old and dirt cheap by this point.
Well, because I'm not even completely sure that either of them will work. Whenever I go to check the system requirements for these games, it literally says the exact same thing for almost every game I check. The games USUALLY work, but sometimes they don't (i.e. Fallout 3 was completely incompatible with my Intel Chipset family or something. Now THAT was disheartening).
You have my sympathies man, that was truly a great game.

If you don't want to risk getting both, then you'll have to decide. I can't really judge since I'm only now playing Mass Effect, but it's pretty good so far. However, I strongly recommend getting Bioshock. It's a necessity that every gamer plays it, IMO.
*Sigh*... Yeah, I've like, made it my mission in life to EVENTUALLY get a better computer and play the heck out of that game. Though I will eventualy be checking both of these games out... Eventually.

Thanks for the comment!

Prior to playing Mass Effect I had zero interest in the scifi genre, I can easily say that Mass Effect has fixed that. I thought the game was absolutely awesome. Didn't have much experience with Bioshock though, so I am not the best person to ask. I can say that Mass Effect 2 seems to be an infinitely better sequel than Bioshock 2 from what I've heard.

I would get Mass Effect. If not because I believe it's a better game, then because it lasted longer.

I got more fun out of Bioshock. More length our of ME.

Screw them. Get Mass Shock.
Eh, I'd rather have BioEffect, but that's just me...
Bio Effect is biased.

3 letters for Bioshock. 6 letters for Mass Effect.

Mass Shock is only 4/5, rather than 3/6.

I had way more fun playing Mass Effect than Bioshock, but I never truly enjoyed first person RPG games like that.

close call i'm gona say ME1 though, just because if Bioshock one has been spoiled for you it hurts the whole story, but if ME1 has been spoiled it's not that bad. Me1 also gives you a lot more bang for your buck

I'd say download the bioshock demo to see if it will run on your computer, just to be safe. I'm not sure about a mass effect demo, but if you can run that it will give you more hours of play before you get bored.

Mass Effect 1 is a bad game in general. There is nothing fun about it at all. The only reason I played it is because of the story, the story is pretty good, and I wanted to check out 2 (which was great).

Bioshock had great story, and moderately good gameplay. It was more immersive, and held my interest outside of the story.

Neither have any replay value, but I certainly enjoyed Bioshock more than Mass Effect 1.

Really, I don't see why people liked Mass Effect 1 so much, it had a good story, kinda, sure if anything the only fun I had in ME1 was the codex. But the rest of it was like whiping sand paper in my eyes.

My avatar tells a thousand truths, play Mass Effect 1, then this sexy thing could be yours in Mass Effect 2.

I mean, you have an oppurtunity in Mass Effect 2 regardless, but starting the series as a whole is just so much more sweeter.

BioShock. Easily.

But Mass Effect is still pretty good. Just get them both.
