I'd say download the bioshock demo to see if it will run on your computer, just to be safe. I'm not sure about a mass effect demo, but if you can run that it will give you more hours of play before you get bored.
That sounds like a neat idea! Where can I find the demos for this stuff?

I personally loved Bioshock more. But I would say that you should go with Mass Effect.

There's more content, more to do, and it's a lot longer.

Mass Effect no effin competition most beleivable sci-fi epic since babylon 5 fun races, plenty of detail and love gave a new spin to the rpg genre piece of gaming history if you ask me.

Bioshock is a really weak System Shock clone not even close to being as good were I you pick up ME for pittence pre-owned, grab a torrent of System Shock and learn to use dos-box.

bioshock 1 did everything right. great story, atmosphere, and content.

mass effect 1 had its ups and downs. great RPG, but when it tried to mix it up it just failed. example MAKO CONTROLS

I'm given a choice between two games?

It's a versus thread then, really no getting around it.

As to the question, I'd personally go Mass Effect but it's a close call, I really enjoyed both games.

I'd buy mass effect. While Bioshock 2 kinda stagnated (from what I've heard I've only played the 2nd) Mass effect 2 improves on it's original in almost every way.

Both games are excellent; you really can't go wrong.

Bioshock gives one of the single most immersive experiences I've ever been involved with and the storyline is fantastic. The downside is that it's littered with irritating fetch quests and Big Daddies can get old real quick.

Mass Effect has, hands down, my favorite storyline in the last 10 years of videogames. The characters, the setting, even how you play it all combine to give the most engaging RPG I've ever played. The combat is a bit quirky at times, the squadmate AI can be complete dipshits and the Mako missions tend to suck something awful, but if you're looking for an amazing Sci-Fi adventure easily on par with Star Wars, Mass Effect is the way to go.

Also, Mass Effect 2 is literally the best game I have ever played; it's almost the perfect sequel.

Mass Effect. One of the best stories in a game I've seen for a long time, great characters, awesome soundtrack. One of the few games I actually felt like playing through multiple times to get all the achievements.

Basically, I'm yearnin' fer a new game to play. But I was wondering which game you all preferred more? Bioshock 1 or Mass Effect 1?

I'm asking about these two specifically because I don't really know if my comp could handle the sequels, and I'm not even sure that it can play these as well.

The weird thing is, I checked the requirements on the site CanYouRunIt.com [http://cyri.systemrequirementslab.com/CYRI/intro.aspx], and it says the exact same thing about Oblivion, Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead 2, Mass Effect, and Bioshock. It says that everything checks out EXCEPT that I shouldn't be using a Mobel Intel 4 Chipset family thingie. But my comp runs both Oblivion (VERY well I might add) and runs Left 4 Dead 2 decently enough, but it was completely incompatible with Fallout 3.

So I just wanted ya'lls opinion on the subject. Should I just not take a chance, and save myself 20 bucks? Or should I try getting one of the games? And if so, which one would you recommend, Bioshock 1 or Mass Effect 1?

EDIT:: THIS IS NOT A VERSUS THREAD!
There... Now you know...
If you want a long fulfilling RPG/TPS with a great in depth story, go for mass effect (just don't get sucked in too deep, you actually pay money for the sequel).
If you want a mindless romp through an underwater paradise turned hell with genetic splicing and creepy little girls with severe daddy issues, then go for Bioshock. Both have great story's and gameplay, and both funnily enough have sequels that shouldn't have been made.

Bioshock 2 I understand, but Mass Effect 2 shouldn't have been made? You, sir, are out of your mind! (this isn't a flamepost, Mass Effect always was a trilogy).

Yes, but they absolutely gutted everything about the first game.
The gameplay, the inventory system, the length, the story didn't even tie in all that well with the first game.
There were so many glitches, and I had to keep reloading for stupid reasons, the cover system was absolutely fucking broken.
They took Mass Effect and catered it to Halo fanatics.
The only thing that kept me playing the game were the interesting characters, who funnily enough were the majority of the game. You literally collected them all, did their loyalty quests, and then it was pretty much off to the suicide mission.

The sidequests were almost non existant and exploring planets? Once you finished a mission on another planet, you couldn't go back to it, wtf? Too bad if you missed important items and wanted to go back to scan them, you couldn't.

I bought the collector's edition for $120 and while it came with some sweet extras, I was really disappoint in Mass Effect 2 as a whole.
And don't even get me started on fucking Cerberus...

Get System Shock 2, you'll get the best of both worlds...=)

Oh and to settle the score, I've seen enough Star Wars/Star Trek recreations to last me a life time...I'm sorry to say both ME1&2 didn't impress me as much as it did for most...=/

Steam has the Bioshock demo, I don't think they have the Mass Effect demo, but it's worth a look.
