Bioshock since Mass Effect was basically a Gears of War clone with RPG bits taked on.
How was Mass Effect in ANY WAY similar to Gears of War?
One is a high tech sci fi story where you team up with various aliens to attempt to capture a fugitive one a galaxy search.
Gears of War is the setting of a grim chaotic future where mankind is at war with another species for survival, either side fighting for the other's extinction.

Explain the similarities.
(Please don't tell me you are saying Mass Effect is essentially an identical duplicate to Gears cf War just because they both incorporate a cover system.)

I'd say Mass Effect because you'll be getting more play time, and good play time at that.

Bioshock is pretty good, but I think it's really overrated. Sure, it has a nice setting but it's still just a linear corridor shooter.

Like someone said above, go with Mass Effect and consider Bioshock at a later date. Bioshock 2 is coming out at some point, so you could get the 1st one before the 2nd releases for a recap if you're still interested.

As much as I didn't like Bioshock (boring), it's one of the best games on all consoles.

Mass Effect is very close.

Also, I have finished ME and my allies never gave ma hard time. If anything, I died due to poor armor. Maybe you are just a bad player... Pretty easy to imagine, as you consider 2 great and critically acclaimed games "mediocre".
Ohhh, I insulted someone's games, that must be why you're getting worked up into some fanboy rage and insulting me because no website game critic ever inflates a score because of pretty pictures. EVER. I played the pc version btw, and I found bioshock as boring as you, now go settle down before you start crying.
Yes, insulting people and calling them fanboys gives you a lot of creditability. Not.

I just hate ignorance. And you, my fat headed friend, are an ignorant. Calling 2 games scoring a 90+ average on 44 and 74 reviews is like calling someone with straight A's a weak student.

Or saying that the gold medalists are slow and you could beat them.

Why am I even talking to you? You called a game scoring few Game of the Year 2007 awards MEDIOCRE. I feel dumber after saying that...
I didn't like popular graphic engines with a game attached. Opinion on games is different than grades or medals... why am I arguing with you about this. Take a pill.

1. Bioshock needs a capital.
2. See number 1.
3. See number 2.
4. 'if' being the start of a sentence needs a capital.
5. A comma would be prefferable here.
6. I think you need a 'be' between 'you' and 'must'
7. Stupider is not a word, please use 'more stupid'.
8. Consider revising that phrase.

Thank you, your continued donations keep Neosage running.
That being said, I did enjoy Bioshock more, but I never got round to completing Mass Effect.[/small]

You are calling two great games "mediocre" because they have "popular graphic engines attached"? Dear Lord.

Can someone else take this over? I'm kinda lost here. I don't know if we are talking about the quality of gameplay/stories or graphics...

Uh. Sorry. It is a word. More stupid = stupider. I know it sounds strange and many people avoid it, but as long as the word is shorter than 3 syllabes, you can use both "more/the most" and "er/est" versions.

Mass Effect would be my personal recommendation.

I'd imagine you would get more replay value out of it that Bioshock and once completed you can rest easy in the knowledge that there's less chance of the sequel being a crushing disappointment than there is with Bioshock 2. :)

Bioshock has better game play where as Mass Effect has a better story, the voice acting is brilliant. I got both so cos they are both excellent in their own ways.

I've played both and I did not that Mass Effect was THAT great. It was good but, not that good. Maybe it was just not my kind of game.

I'd say go for BioShock.

If you're going to claim Bioshock and Mass Effect as mediocre and boil it down to it's core values then I'd have to agree with you but only because no game has impressed me to the point where I would do something drastic like form a religeous cult around them in order to express my love for them. As far as games go they're good to excellent games but as far as everything goes they're not "perfect", or even just the best thing in the world.

Also in my opinion Bioshock, if story is what holds a game together then Bioshock definatly plays the trump card this time.

Awesome, someone else pointed out his errors instead of me.

Ah well, Mass Effect gets really good around the end game, so I'd strongly suggest that you do finish it.
[small]I will do! Before Mass Effect 2 comes out definatley, I just got really annoyed at the game when I forgot to save and I died sending me back about an hours worth.[/small]

Console or PC?
If PC go for Bioshock, at least it feels like it was meant to be used with a mouse... ME's got annoying GoW-like aiming system that basically means you've got to aim in general direction of your enemy and wait till he dies of old age ~.~ BioShock's controls feel much sharper and precise. Story in Bioshock beats ME easily too, maps/graphics are far superior too. I'd even risk saying that BioShock is more of an PRG than ME [that's a bot of pushing it tho'].

So, BIOSHOCK
