I think it had an incredible feel to it. I kind of wish they kept a few things from System Shock though, and it was simplified a bit to appeal to more of a mass market.

It really depends if you like FPS games that do things a little differently, or if you like RPG games that have things relatively stripped down.

yes it is a very good game either buy it or rent it a few times because there is a lot of hidden things put in, they're mostly just scenes or events meant to scare you.

whether you're fighting or just walking around you'll notice how well each level is designed you will go from medical pavilions to the streets of rapture all paved and covered in blood, bodies, and bullet shells.

also they are coming out with bioshock 2 (trailer is out) so if you want to understand the story you might want to play it (although i think the character from 1 isn't in 2 so you might not need to in order to understand the story)

Uhhmmm..... You do realise it's an FPS set in the 1950's, in a giant city at the bottom of the ocean, where you play a genetically modified hero who shoots bees out of his arm and sets people on fire with a click of his fingers? That you battle gigantic diving costumed horrors, drug addled lunatics and creepy little girls?

Generic? Riiiiiiiggghtt.

I dident buy bioshock until recently as i was skeptical, skeptical of anything that labels itself "steampunk" and claims to be amazing.

I have to admit that i feel a bit stupid now, its easily one of the most entertaining games i have EVER played! i mean...you can shoot bees out of your hand! how awsome is that?! :D
Actually, I'm a huge fan of anything Steampunk. I find the whole genre to be an interesting concept (plus I quite enjoyed the Hungry City Chronicles...).

Have you even played it?
The ONLY nongeneric thing is the setting but the gameplay is really bland, you basically have a pistol/tommygun/shotgun/flamethrower/camera/crossbow... wow.
Then there is your magic (no not plasmids, magic), which are most of the time very unuseful, you wont use em very often, because 1 or 2 shots will drain your mana (no, not eve) quick.

Its not a bad game, but there are much better games out there, if you get it cheap, buy it of course, but dont expect the messiah here

?: halflife is also very generic but i enjoyed it because of the believeable characters and EXTREME immersion

Anything which openly mocks Ayn Rand & her disciples is OK in my book.
If you think this game mocks objectivism, you clearly didn't get it.
How so?
Well, Andrew Ryan created a paradise based on objectivism, then it all went to hell Ikar-style. It was kind of a warning for mankind to not get too proud, feel like gods etc. but if it weren't for the plasmids, Rapture would be an awsome place to live, therefore objectivism works.
So you're assuming that without Adam, Fontaine wouldn't have made a grab for power?

BioShock is . . . worth playing.

If you liked the demo and have the time and focus to commit it's a solid purchase.

But quite honestly I don't see what all the slavering praise is for, it seems people are practically tripping over their shoulders to elevate a shooter without regenerating health and limited weapon capacity.

I thought Bioshock was a great game, but it is quite old and the wave has well and truly passed. If you do want the experience, save up for the second one, Bioshock: Sea of Dreams, which is coming out soon I believe.
Old? Its 2 years old or something...wtf dude?

And yes Bioshock is good. I recently bought it on steam and I'm loving every second.
Just saying it's not really the latest game out there.
Does that necessarily make it less enjoyable? Would you refuse to watch Schindler's List because it's more than a decade old?

On that note, Bioshock is great. Easily the best plot in a video game in years.

I'd definitely recommend it. It's my second second favorite game of this generation second only to Mass Effect.

If the plot is as good, I just think that the next one will be better. Who knows.

A game set in an objectivist underwater dystopia is generic? Wow, I've been misusing that word!
WWII is the only innovative period.
I have never played a CoD or MoH game...
Not to start an argument or anything, but if you haven't played one of those, then you don't know generic FPS.
