okay, Id like to say first and foremost that I enjoy playing mass effect, but thats about it. I enjoy it, nothing more.

OKAY THEN.

first off, these two companies are by far the worst two RPG makers I have seen. Action? check. Basic plot? check. Great RPG games? not really, good action, but the flavoring of RPG gets watered out.

I know some people are quick to point and say Square enix is worse, and yes, recently they suck really bad right now. But honestly, Id rather see Square and Sega team up and make a Final Phantasy game (basically a hybrid of the two franchises thats a completely new IP).

Current RPGs lack the RPG feeling. I dont feel like ym character is getting better anymore, I dont feel like Im growing or expanding my abilities.

Sure, I added 20 points into Light Guns in Fallout, but I dont feel any stronger, even if people die faster. People just die faster thats it.

Wheres the points where I stand on a cliff edge and think "wow, to think that I was some average joe, now look at me, seeing the world."? Theres something called pacing. Fallout doesnt have it, because its too broken up from crossing the wastes to doing a mission, its just really choppy. Mass Effect is just this GO GO GO SAVE THE WORLD NO TIME TO STOP GOT TO STOP THE BAD DUDES.

13 did one thing right, just ONE thing. Pacing. things gradually went from bad to worse, or worse to ok, or good to bad, etc. Everything else was bad, but otherwise it felt RPG in that respect, and that was the only reason I made it to disc 3 before giving up.

Overall, Im not impressed by Bioware or Bethesda in terms of how they see their games and what they think a RPG is.

No, because I never want Bethesda to work on a Fallout game ever again.

Publising and financing is fine, but not developing.
They did that, and they released New Vegas which was buggy as shit. Blame Obsidian, Not Bethesda.
Yes, New Vegas was buggy, but you can't put all blame on Obsidian.

They were using Bethesda's engine, an engine that is buggy and out-dated.

Plus Obsidian were given a very small period to actually work on the game, almost less than half of Fallout 3's development time.

Plus Betehsda did the QA testing, not Obsidian.

New Vegas also had a smaller budget than Fallout 3.

However, although New Vegas was buggy, it didn't have Fallout 3'a inconsistency, lack of knowledge of the Fallout world, bland characters, bad writing, dull RPG elements and it even improved on the gameplay in more ways than most people refuse to believe.
I actually thought Fallout 3 had some of the best characters of the franchise. i enjoyed fallout 3's world. anyway you can't get to critical of fallout 3 because i mean, it was the first go the franchise had at being in full 3D as well a FPS shooter when it was previously a top down shooter. New Vegas did improve, as for Obsidian, just because they used Bethesda's Engine, doesn't mean they couldn't have fixed. as for the small period of time to make the game, i don't buy that, if they needed more time to they would've delayed it.

Obsidian didn't decide the release, budget and time, that was all Bethesda.

Also out of curiosity but which characters are you referring to in Fallout 3?

James, Colonel Autumn and President Eden. i dunno about you but i felt compelled to know more about them. but then again that's my personal opinion. doesn't matter anyway i thought the characters were quite good. otherwise i wouldn't have spent all that time playing it. oh and the ghoul you support in Point Lookout.

If they needed more time they would've had to delay it. I'm sure they could've reasoned with bethesda.

Can't say I was a big fan of those characters, Autumn I liked certain things about him and was definitely one of the better characters but still had some flaws, although that's more to do with the the bad RPG elements of the game than his character. Desmond was also one of the better ones but personally the best character in F3 was Ashur, but even he had one major flaw that ruined him as a character.

As for the delays, no it isn't easy to reason with a publisher.

In the end Bethesda are the ones with the money and the contract, they make the decisions and in the end they did not give Obsidian ample time to make the game...still turned out to be one of the all-time favourites nonetheless despite the fact it was unfinished.

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? Fallout 3 was better than New Vegas!
If you played Fallout 3 while on acid maybe.
Or if OPINIONS OPINIONS OPINIONS.
RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE

But yes, combining Bioware and Bethesda to create a perfect game-developer-Voltron would be awesome. But alas, it will never be....

No, because Bioware would simplify EVERYTHING so much that hell would freeze over. And Bethesda would just be feeding fans the whole time when making games, or trying to simplify things.
Basically, you'd have Pong with great diolauge and story.
