She's to big to sink ladies and gentlemen. Please return to your cabins.

I'm not a big MMO player to be fair, so I'll stay away from making any serious comments on this, apart from the fact that I've seen very little about the Old Republic that is drawing me into the genre.

I've got a friend who likes it though, so I hope they fix it soon.

Not been a good season for patches overall has it, youd think they would get the hang of it by now.

I don't know why everyone expects MMO's to be perfect out of the gate. WOW has had 6 years (?) to perfect everything. I remember when warriors would die instantly if they charged in water and that priests could dispel paladin mounts.

I'm playing TOR and it's great fun. I think I can excuse some teething problems.

I would recommend it to anyone who likes Mass Effect at least. You can play most of it as a single player game, although the conversations are more fun rolling against your friend for supremacy :p

BioWare's Patch Messed Up The Old Republic

Patches generally fix problems with a game, but this one has caused some new problems. Whoops.

The 1.1 patch for Star Wars: The Old Republic was supposed to fix issues and exploits. Unfortunately, players who downloaded the update have discovered that - while it did solve some problems - it also created some new ones.

It turns out that Imperial PvP players have been taking advantage of faction imbalances on the world of Ilum. You can see a video example of this in action here, but here's the Reader's Digest version (as provided by the video's author, <a href=http://www.youtube.com/user/suzpaz>suzpaz):

This video shows how incredibly unbalanced the factions are. There are hundreds of Empire on Ilum, and only ~40 Republic.

For the past 40 minutes they've been camping our spawn killing everyone and everything. They also get a huge valor bonus for each kill due to the faction imbalance and owning all the Ilum points.

Players have - unsurprisingly - been complaining on The Old Republic's forums about the problem, and the developer has set up a specific thread to deal with the issue. According to community manager Joveth Gonzalez, "We're currently investigating potential issues related to the Ilum open world PvP area post-1.1. We understand that this is a topic of much discussion and we ask that you please direct all discussions to this thread."

At the moment, there's no word on when the issue will be resolved.

They are about to shut down realms at 8am cst in order to apply an emergency patch to fix this major issue.

I wouldn't say messed up the old republic because that might imply that the game broke or something when instead some realms that have major population imbalance are owning the other faction.

I watched about 30 seconds of this video and I can already feel the beginnings of a headache. I had read that the game's engine is unoptimized, but holy shit, that is fucked up.
That many characters using aoe abilities at once is bad in any game even wow. Also you need to take into account that the person computer might be complete garbage and just runs horribly when a few people are around.

Wait, what? Am I the only person who doesn't see any sense to this news?

"New patch introduces bugs"

"There's faction imbalance on a server"

Is the bug producing a faction imbalance (how the fuck?) or is this an exercise in non sequiturs?

Ehhh I'm willing to be forgiving on Bioware's part, bugs and problems always plague an MMO at launch. Although it has to be said that Bioware is really pushing it here..

fuuuuuuuuuuuckkkk, I just realized if I wanted to play TOR I'd have to install Origin. Damn yet another game I can't play until EA changes the data mining on Origin >.<

Whatever, just wash your hands.
The best part is something just like this happened in warhammer online, which was released by ea also under the dev house of mythic which was swallowed up by bioware. What happened in warhammer online was after a patch item drops from players became extremely common, normally one out of every 100 kills or something would drop some of a top tier pvp set but after the patch every 1 or 2 kills dropped it, it was awesome and mythic decided to let it go and not roll back all the awesome pvp gear ppl got.

OH, people. This is hardly a bannable offense. I remember "Red Resign Day" on a certain Guild Wars event, when people would exploit a glitch and rack up some major PvP title points.

Nobody was banned, it was a glitch. Overreaction much?

Dude, game's been out for a month officially. The patch had a problem and an exploit that Bioware fixed LESS THAN 24 HOURS LATER. That's not pushing it... Bioware's had an outstanding launch aside from a few graphical glitches.

Also... people play TOR for the PvP? Hahahahahaha... *wipes tear* Ahh... that's rich...

This game just received 4.5/5 in a review on this site.
I would say it shows beyond doubt that it was reviewed as a solo game (although it is one with subscription based DRM).

I anticipated some of these issues and was worried that EA/BioWare decided to invest 70% of game budget into hype, 10% to buy a game engine (programming those is such a pain anyway) and the rest for voice actors. Maybe some spare change for content development.

I must say that sadly, my cynical view was not proven wrong. :(

You'll only need Origins if you buy the digital copy. If you buy a physical copy, you can install from disc or even download it from the main page of the website and just log in after creating your account with the key. In fact, if you can make the purchase through EA without having to use Origins, you'll be fine too as all you need is the key. It uses the standard MMO patcher to keep up to date, not Origins.

Well, that's unfortunate for people who play the PvP, but as someone who really could care less for the MMO aspect of this game, I got my two co-op partners for the PvE and that has been tons of fun & all I'll ever need to get my money's worth out of TOR.

The story is actually interesting, the flashpoints have been fun and the world is fucking massive. I ain't got no complaints - except that I have to wait until level 26 to get a personal speeder.

It's hard to blame bioware for dick players, which are a good deal of the sith. This is a problem that the players are creating and I think in the end the republic will benefit for it.

It actually gets worse than that. They've "accidentally" disabled players' unsubscribe button and are offering a token gesture (literally) to players who redeem a time card or preordered before March 19th. Also on Massively [http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/01/19/swtor-unsubscribe-goes-missing-for-some/].
