Black Ops - Incredible campaign footage

This vid popped up the other day, and after seeing it I'm finally caving to the hype... this game looks absolutely awesome.

The facial animations and mo-cap are possibly the best I've ever seen in a game, that first scene shown is a complete eyegasm.. Those guys look so human it's scary. They seem to have finally bypassed the uncanny valley effect in gaming. The improved enemy AI looks exciting too.

The helicopter scene also looks amazing, check out that Battlefield-style destruction engine. Also they talk of an 'Abyss style' underwater section and flying a supersonic aircraft - wow.

It seems they're really going back to the COD4 style pacing and storytelling, which if true, will be awesome.

Now of course this is going to attract the 'GRRR Graphic don't matter' argument, but we all know that the COD play mechanics are completely solid so everything else, including graphics, is worth getting excited over for some of us. Its one of the ways to make the game more exciting and immersive.

Do you think it's possible this game may just live up to its promise and restore the greatness of the series?

It does look pretty sexy...I do believe Black Ops can restore greatness but it wouldnt really have to try hard after MW2...

In previous videos I've seen they said it isn't a 'battlefield like' engine, and made it sound more like "if we wanted the building to blow up, that building is destructible". They made it sound more like the exception rather than the rule I guess. (I watched this without sound, so if they said otherwise here, I apologize)

Overall, the gameplay itself looks very similar (for better or worse) to the gameplay in the last few COD games.

You're probably right there.

I imagine that in a COD game these kind of mechanics will be for spectacle rather than strategy, but to be honest that's fine with me, as that's what I want form COD... spectacular setpieces and tense sneaky bits.

I was amazed as well by the trailers for MW2. I was so hyped for it, I could barely contain my excitement. And then I actually played the game...

What I mean to say is that I can't buy into the COD hype like before. I'm pretty happy with Reach and the various other games coming out, so I think I'm gonna skip this for the time being. If it does end up being better than MW2, I'll definitely look into getting it though. World at War was a much better game than MW2 was, so I hope Treyarch pulls it off.

Now I'm not a huge fan of graphics in general, as long as facial animation is ok, I'm having a good time. Now these faces actually look realistic. Need to get this game just to look at realistic faces.

Looking good. Why couldn't they have done some motion tracking on the lips of the actors? After all these years and advances in tech, we still have lip sync like the thunderbirds! (MGS4 is getting there though they can somewhat make an "O" shape with there mouths)

It's going to sound a bit weird, but I am looking forward to the customizing the most.

Little off topic. That MOH review, LAWL! How many ways did that woman say various parts of the game were mediocre? Pretty much every point she touched upon was "it's ok but been done before" then gives it and pretty high 8.1, what the hell? If it is so middle of the road, nothing new, been done before, not this shit again shouldn't it have been given 5, maybe a 6 for the sliding cover thing.

It's the formula for current gen fps'.

Yeah, I was one of the minority who absolutely loved the MW2 campaign so I think I'll be pleased with Black Ops too. I just hope it's longer!

Always one, isn't there? Popular franchise gets mentioned and there is always atleast one guy who comes and pisses on the parade.

Who knows, black ops may restore the COD name to it's former self.
