Personally I see it as a kind of ridiculous ad. Call of Duty is kind of popular because it's poor choices in advertising. You could argue otherwise, some one sided individuals might, because the advertising gets the attention they're hoping for, which is ALOT.

12 year old girl (or something close to that) in warzone? Fucking dumb. It's typical CoD advertising.

And, quite frankly, who's the idiot here?

The American soldier that's put his life on the line for his country, or the video game fanboy that 'stands by his man'.

Don't mean to get all 'american pride' here, but seriously.. give me a break.

i love how they brought in someone from the videogame industry/marketing in order to defend it and allow for a balanced argument.

hehe imagine if people in other jobs had reacted like this when made into games.
rockstars screaming in news shows "kids today think they can be rockstars whit plastic gitars in games" and gordon ramsey goes postal after hearing about cooking mama

There isn't anything wrong with Treyarch's commercial. "There's a soldier in all of us." Is not a word that offends unless you're a bleeding heart. The commercial overall is a rather light hearted ad which in my opinion is trying to show live action multiplayer and single player moments.

The quote can also be taken several different ways. It could explain that we all have courage, honor, strength etc; of a soldier. Because in all of us a soldier resides. In the end this all falls down to political correctness and I know who I'm glaring at on this issue. *Stares at California and beyond*

The former easily because he freely chooses to participate in an illegal invasion of a country not to protect his own (no-one buys that lie anymore except idiots) but for the benefit of corporations who profit from war. Oh and Israel of course.

The tagline is "There's a soldier in all of us"

it's a big difference
Definitely. It's not saying anyone can go to war, and I doubt they intended for it to be taken literally; I feel it was just a tagline that was intended to hook potential players by giving them a sense of empowerment, enticing them to actually buy Black Ops.

I hate to sound disrespectful, but some people are too oversensitive.

I wonder what would happen if *those* people ever played black ops.
THIS is not real, just stop with all of this, america and countries in general, just stop, it's like in the middle of the renaissance somebody said that painting saints is immoral, and then everybody believed that idiot.

But in fairness, its tradition that COD will face controversy with every new game.

I'd say this is the most ridiculous thing that soldier has ever done, but he invaded Afghanistan.

My only question is why didn't Jake die for his country? Jake acts as if not everyone can be a soldier, when pretty much anyone can get into boot camp >.> Jake is a douchebag who makes americans look bad and he SHOULD have died for his country like a real man. Granted, I am not serving, I chose to fight for my country. My country told me I couldn't fight because I had to take care of parking tickets. You want to know what's disgusting Jake? Soldiers like you who get up on their high horse and think that you're better than anyone else just because you were in battle. Big farking whoop, jackarse. Any soldier will tell you that they had to suffer to achieve their place in their respective service. Any soldier will tell you that they love their country, and that they will die for freedom. The same freedom to idolize those that actually do something worthwhile for country. You saying this commercial represents moral problems in this country is a glaring example of what America is not. Its like saying little timmy can't play with his farking little green soldier toys because it doesn't really represent what actually goes on over there. You, un american douche, are a giant fail. You, douche, represent the very thing that is wrong in our military today. A soldier is more than just an average man, I agree, but a soldier is still just a man. What do you want, Jake? Do you want us to just take all things involving war seriously? How many innocent people compared to people who needed to be killed have you offed, Jake? Do you have any other plans to trample American freedom with your own personal views and opinions Jake? Here's an idea, Jake, why don't you stfu. It's just a game. Take the little green men from little Timmy, Jake. Show Timmy that being an American means to stifle the same freedom you fight for, jackass. BTW, it sounds to me like you've got some kind of anger issue with the fact that Kobe was in the commercial. You're not just another one of those racists who think black guys playing basketball and getting paid a lot is an offense to you, are you Jake? Did you see the nurse at the begining? Did you see the business men littered about the place AS WELL as the stars?
Let me just also add that the military you're so proud of actually IS comprised of people JUST like those in the commercial, MADE into soldiers by the American Government, you dipstick. Here's a real look at the world that is your reality, Soldier: Where and what would you be if not for the military? Well, I can tell you it wouldn't be making money playing basketball. You wouldn't be making Jimmy Kimmel money either. With your attitude, I'm very sure that you'd be nothing more than one of those interweb bully nerds that went and got the game at midnight just to pwn nubs that have never played the game before stop playing only to eat, poop, and fap. In conclusion, Thank you, Jake, for fighting for my freedom to watch an awesome ad like that on television, even if you don't seem to like what people do with their freedom. Even so, you have the freedom to have your opinion, the same as I have the freedom not to agree with you. After this, I think I may actually play CoD now.
...sorry, I didn't realize I was angry intweb nerd ranting. :p

Anybody CAN be a soldier, since the army will take just about anyone who doesn't have a physical disability (and many "militias" in 3rd world countries will take literally anyone including children). Call of Duty isn't saying "anyone can be a great soldier," or "anyone can make it out of war alive," they're saying "anyone can be a solider" which is technically true.
its nots even that its theres a soldier in all of us

THIS IS 'MERICA!!! AND IN 'MERICA "REAL 'MERICANS" HAVE THE RIGHT TO BAN THINGS WE DON'T LIKE FOR NO REASONS!!! THATS HOW FREEDOM WORKS!!! Just as God and the Founding Fathers would have wanted!

Aside from my obvious sarcasm, this is just obvious pandering to people that already hate and demonize video games without even pretending to be fair to the other side. Not even basic questions of the game are being answered like "Where and when is the setting of this game?","Who are the main characters?", "Did either of us even play or watch someone else play this game before jumping to conclusions about the contents?", and other basic oversights that would get you publicly laughed if people cared about facts and/or thinking.

That army guy reminds me of the "Fisk Dicks" joke from south park. He just doesn't get it.

How can they not go, oh anyone can be a soldier = anyone can be a soldier IN A VIDEOGAME!
How can they not go, noone dies = OH YEAH IT'S ALL PRETEND.

Oh and only 7% of us care about the "war" overseas because it's a bullshit war that we shouldn't even be involved in. Do you think WW2 had a 7% approval rating? That idiot soldier isn't dying for me or my family, he is dying because he is an idiot who got tricked into signing up.

That soldier made a valid argument, but I don't agree with everything he said.

BTW, did anyone else hear someone say,"They turn me on." at the very end of the video? or was that just me?

I couldn't watch past 1:51. Seriously, you rage, you lose.

What ignorant bastards. That was the first time I've seen that ad, but I seriously laughed out loud. It's funny! It's a satire, I mean obviously not everyone can be a REAL soldier. But if they buy Black Ops, they can, in a way.

These people are biased against war games and are trying to give them the most negative hype possible.

How in the nine bloody hells does he equate that just because that chick had the m16 its giving off the message is "sexy" thanks for serving and all (i'm Canadian but i'll gladly pay respects to any soldier) but he should really stop trying to read into this. It reminds me of the south park episode where Butters writes a book and his fans read WAY too far into it...this is ridiculous

wow, yes, that really makes me angry.
"I would challenge them to put on a uniform and go to war"
Killing is a crime.
War is a crime.
(And both are very very much not fictional)
It is this kind of mindset, looking apon soldiers as heroes, what is wrong with the world.

And soldiers whining about not being taken serious enough, that is just pathetic.

And that is just the non-videogame-related stuff that makes me angry.
I know americans tend to see these things differently, but I´m german, I learned to look at soldiers in quite a different way. It is easy to see them as heroes when they are far away, I suppose.

But picking on the medium of games to try and boost your own "veteran ego"?
Really, this world is going down.

Edit: On a lighter, and more on-topic, note:
Yeah, the ad had it coming, and I´m pretty sure they new there would be outrage. But this is also publicity. And will it really stop anyone buying the game that wants to? I think not.
