I could talk to ten random young Marines/Soldiers/Airmen/Sailors and probably have 9/10 tell me that they like the game/want to get the game and don't really give two shits about the ad campaign that anyone with half an IQ point can see didn't literally mean anyone could be an actual soldier. Interestingly enough I have a friend whos father was a Marine and he plans on getting this game, so even a lot of the old guys are getting into it.

"The woman in the short skirt and an M16?that's something real soldiers wear in the battlefield." I lol'd.

Anyway, this one guy is taking the ad too seriously, but will it really affect anything? I think it's good that despite the game's content (and there's some brutal stuff in there) the only thing that's getting it controversy is the ad campaign and that it released the same week as Veteran's Day/Remembrance Day (the thing with Cuba doesn't count because that's just their government speaking).

These kind of people disgust me. Do they know the definiton of a GAME!?!?!?!?! Probably not. It's not real. Ya, the commercial shows some other people in war and then it says, "Anybody can be a soldier" and if you're an idiot you think that they arn't obviously talking about black ops! I don't even like the game but this idiotic person is challenging others to go to war and saying that the production team should be disgusted because they had people shooting others? Guess what? War isn't fun. Games are.

I wonder how this guy feels about the movie Four Lions.

If he doesn't see anything bad in THAT (clearly cartoonish representation of war), then he really needs to get his priorities straight.

Thanks Mr American Solider, for being able to see the difference between an Ad and real War, and setting my faith in humanity back another 100 years.

I don't even really like the games but something about how seriously they take a figurative line makes me want to defend it.

The worst kind of soldier: cocky, arrogant, and stupid. Maybe he has a point when he says nobody can't be a soldier.

I agree with them, let's let the minority of people who don't understand or try to understand these games at all and stop buying them.

No really this way the minority of people who try to stay ignorant and oppress their beliefs on others wins. Doesn't that sound nice to appeal to the easily offended and people who just don't ever make the effort to see these things for what they are?

You know what? Nothing surprises me in this department anymore. Seeing tons of overblown reactions about games and game related things and people who may or may not have ever been within 100 feet of a game.

I've used up all my bile for this topic and people like this.
Stupid people will continue to be stupid, and I can't think of anything more to say.

"Waaaah! They're advertising a video game! Waaah!"

What is considered news these days just sickens me.
There are real conflicts out there that news networks ignore in favor of "stories" like this?!
Seriously?!

I'm pretty sure "anyone can be a soldier" ment, anyone can be a 'soldier' in the game.

Honest to god, they are so damn stupid.

So... they want call of duty games to look like this?

Sorry about the link, I don't know how to embed a video. If someone could tell me, that'd be great.

Personally, I preferred the "gunfight" commercial way back when. WIth people using their hands as guns.
AS for the vid......I just sighed.
Your welcome :D
Yami Bakura: I have something far more powerful then invisible guns!

Henchmen: Lies! There's nothing more powerful then invisible guns!

"I knew we should've used the invisible tank."

A thread that made me register an account here. Otherwise I was just enjoying my weekly Yahtzee review.
Not sure about the motivation and reasoning of these two, but the idea is right - ad is lame. No, it doesn't say "Be an awesome soldier in game", there are real people portrayed, not video game characters. The game advertises itself only the last 2 or 3 seconds of the video.
But - you know what they say about CoD fan(boy)base.

I couldnt even stand to watch the full thing. I dont get how they completely miss how the tagline was meant to be tongue in cheek kind of thing. Of course not everybody can be soldier because some of us dont feel like blindly following orders or dont have that much patriotism. jesus f***** christ it is game. use your gawd damn production money to talk about real news you stupid **********************

That ad should have seen it coming. Sure, those guys were idiots, but that was a pretty iffy commercial. If they were smarter about it, they would have just shown various people playing the game.
There's nothing iffy about it, except they failed to account for the lowest common denominator. They shouldn't have to explain that this is all pretend, or that they're not really advocating civilian combatants.

honsetly, im partially on the side of the show here. I mean not that viloent video games should be banned, but this commercial is a fucking disgrace. it has no connection to the game and is built to singlehandedly create controversy to promote the CoD franchise. Its the same as with the no russian.
I'm not convinced that the advertisement is overtly trying to be 'controversial', but I find that an interesting observation nonetheless. Could be that you are on the money (pun intended).

I used to go running around the bush when I was a child playing 'army' with my friends COD style. Does that make me morally inept?

I go paintball, every now and then. Does that mean I disrespect the soldiers who give their lives?

What if I go play laser tag?

If it's so violent, then why do we glorify violent and gladiatorial contact sports and revel in a fit of schadenfreude?

What about the actors who star in war films? Or in any kind of violent film for that matter?

If role-play breaches the moral event horizon, then by that logic: so should role play in drama, sports, or the 'cow boys & Indians' mock up games we have all played as children for generations past.

... Still, I think the ad was absurd.
