It's not but it does seem to be more out in the open in Sydney.VanQQisH said:I don't think it's a phenomenon exclusive to Sydney.RhombusHatesYou said:No ethnic group gets along with any other ethnic group in Sydney.VanQQisH said:This was when I learned that apparently the lebanese and croatians in Sydney don't get along.
Taking that into account....the aliens would simply die of boredom and depression if they invaded stoke-on-trent, believe me!Droppa Deuce said:Because the world has bee brainwashed to believe the USA is the hub of mankind, the cradle of civilisation.
If you ask an American where Sydney is, 7 out of 10 of them will think you're asking about a chick.
Movies such as Independence Day, Cloverfield, the Marvel Superhero movies, disaster movies such as Deep Impact, Armageddon, War of the Worlds etc, all show that Aliens and malevolence in general are only attracted to the USA and only the president and Americans can save the day.
The gaming industry is big $$$, so it makes more sense to go with the masses who are happy to fight to save America, because after all, America is where all humans come from.
I live in Sydney, so I'd probably vote for an alien invasion of Prague, Deli, or Stoke-On-Trent...![]()
Under (New) Mombassa is the portal to the Ark, and the Terminals scattered throughout the game explain how The Librarian and her gang went around the galaxy taking samples of races and storing them in the Ark, so when the Halo Array was fired, they could repopulate the galaxy.GrizzlerBorno said:I think there were some Historical reason or it being Mombasa as well, but I forget.
Wow, we're really through the Looking Glass now!thaluikhain said:There's more USAliens than Australians, and setting a game in another country would confuse them. You don't go broke underestimating your target audience.
On the other hand, I did hear once about a city in the US that wasn't New York, maybe they could set games there instead.
Actually, even though I'm not religious myself,I would go ahead and defend Jerusalem. What more iconic then everyone forgetting their differences and defending the place so many fought over with their lives?Apollo45 said:if you're trying to defend the core of humanity from an alien invasion that's taking place all over the world, personal nationality aside, would you defend New York or, say, Buenos Aires?
Hmm... didn't think of that, although I might go for strategic importance rather than iconic importance in this case. New York is an island city with enough infrastructure to make survival possible even if it's in ruins; you'll be able to salvage canned food, basic medical supplies, etc. that'll be necessary to keep a fighting force in shape. There are probably better places in America to set up a coordinated defense (an actual military base comes to mind), but if you're looking to set a game somewhere people know about, it's probably better (read: easier, more recognizable, brings more feeling, etc.) to pick New York than a random base in the Rocky/Appalachian mountains that would actually make for a good hold-out position.Exocet said:Actually, even though I'm not religious myself,I would go ahead and defend Jerusalem. What more iconic then everyone forgetting their differences and defending the place so many fought over with their lives?
Commerce is nice and all,but it's not the thing we seek refuge in when the whole world goes to hell in a handbasket.
It all depends on the situation really,if it's a real defence, then yeah, somewhere with supplies and cultural importance makes sense. If it's a last stand, you can go ahead and skip the supplies and go all out symbolism and religious/spiritual/cultural icons. It would be a pretty natural feeling reaction in a game world:defend until you have nothing to hide behind but reassuring words.Apollo45 said:Hmm... didn't think of that, although I might go for strategic importance rather than iconic importance in this case.
