Get anything by Darren Shan, I'd recomend his Demonata series personally. It's a kinda dark fantasy horror series with some suspense and some intense scenes in the books. Quite funny too in a twisted kidna way. They're a great read

If you like Sci Fi and are into the Star Wars thing, you'll love Timothy Zahn's series on Grand Admiral Thrawn's invasion of the New Republic.

Hey man, trust me on this i am a big reader. If you like sci fi, you need some Michael Crighton books. Trust me,they are freakin epic. Start with sphere or Prey. I promise you will be in love. Timeline and the jurassic parks are also pretty good too.

If you love sci-fi and have not read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, then you have not lived (I would normally say "God have mercy on your soul", but in this case, Douglas Adams was an atheist). Even 30 years later, it is still some of the most mind-bending hilarity this side of the Milky Way, without the heckling mess and attempts to explain itself that some sci-fi books I've been through fall prey to.

At the other end of the pond, I would personally recommend Brent Weeks' Night Angel trilogy for its depth and sheer scope. Not sci-fi but very fantasy-based, and a very good read. I'm currently on my second read-through of the series.

I keep hearing about The Innocent/Awakened Mage being good, but personally I didn't take to it. Just didn't click with me. And that author's latest series (at least the first book, and can't remember the name) really just turned me off for using way too much fucking and naughtybits references, even if it was story-related. In this first book, I think I counted something like ten separate occurrences of sex. Not to mention half the characters speak like two-year olds... or Yoda. ("Do I need to do this? I think I don't." .<)

As for murder mysteries, have you tried Agatha Christie? Her stuff is good, if you like the old-school.

Anything by William Gibson like Neuromancer or Burning Chrome.

Anything by Larry Niven like The Mote in God's Eye or Ring World.

Anything by Neal Stephenson like Snow Crash or the Cryptonomicon.

Well I don't know of any graphic novels or sci-fi books but I can recommend one book that has made a real impact on me.

Perfume: Story of a Murderer is one of my favourite books of all time, it was written by a German guy named Patrick Süskind in 1985.

It's sort of a psychological book where the main character was born with an incredible sense of smell, and how over time it causes him to become a serial killer in order to steal the scents of young virgin girls in order to create the best perfume in the world.

Interested? Believe me, his writing style and amazing attention to detail will impress you as much as it did me.

Okay, so I just finished reading Watchmen for the 20th fucking time and I realized, I need some new books.

So, what should I do other than turn to my fellow Escapists?

What would you guys recommend for me. I'm heading out to Books A Million within the next few days, so really anything would be appreciated.

I tend to like a lot of graphic novels. I have almost all of Alan Moore's and Frank Miller's work with the exception of The Killing Joke which is on my list to get. I also love horror stories, murder mysteries, suspense, and psychological themed books.

So help me out!!

EDIT: Oh, yeah, this might help. I also like Scifi themes

Normally I'd say anything by Matthew Reilly for a thread like this, but since you said that; either Contest or Hover Car Racer by him. Contest is about a Doctor in a Battle Royale with a bunch of aliens and Hover Car Racer is about well . . . a hover car racer and is actually a hell of a lot more awesome than it sounds. Contest is a lot more violent and sweary though, but if you've read watchmen I don't think it'll be a problem.

Black Hawk Down was a fantastic book. Sorry, it doesn't really fit with the genres you mentioned, but it is one of the few books that ever got me emotionally attached to the characters and story. The greatest part about it is that it's a true event, but it reads like any novel, so you can get hooked on the story easily.
That was a truely great book. I think I might read that again, thanks for reminding me.

Dies The Fire is an interesting book, it has a somewhat sci-fi feel to it, even though it is set in a world what our technology does not work.

For graphic novels try The Walking Dead series (It's about zombies) I just finished volume nine and am waiting on pins and neddles for numero 10.

Or

Try the DMZ series, its an interesting read about an American civil war an how Manhatten is caught in the crossfire.

Sword of Truth series is a waste of time. The first is alright but it gets progressively worse.
Night Angel trilogy is brilliant. Read it. It has lots of rape in it.
Magician series is quite good, save for a few books. e.g. Silverthorn, Rise of a Merchant Prince.
