Since they already made Lord of the Rings, I'll say Earthsea. Since it is a multiethnic fantasy world, Hollywood would just make everyone white.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news....but it was turned into a miniseries a couple of years ago.

OT: Can't see them doing a good job on any of the Drizz't books. Salvatore hsa such great scope it would be a shame to see it pared down.

R.A. Salvatore's The Crystal Shards.

I know no matter how great the writing, the scripts, special effects, or acting, Drizzt would never come out right.

I cant think of a single actor i would want to play this icon of perfect character devolpment.
Actually, they'd start out with Homeland, and with a young Drizzt. Though I agree, I can't think of anyone. Maybe motion capture...? With Salvatore doing the casting?
Eh, but then your getting into CGI, and theres a hair thin line between good and bad CGI.

And even then, starting back at the begining could doom the series from the start. When you start doing extended scripting, filming and casting, many more mistakes can happen. Plus, half my friends who know who drizzt is never read that far back. they were introduced to him through the Crystal Shards.

hell, one of my friends unlocked him in the Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance game. he had no clue who drizzt was before that. ((i more or less slapped him and called him a heathen.))
Well, I thought that Homeland and Exile are the best of the bunch.
I gotta agree with you on this. Theyer more then a work of art to anyone with a working brain.
but if any of Salvatore's books were made into movies, it would have to be Crystal Shards.

Id hate for any of them to be ruined, but chances are it would be the best out of the group. ((the fight with icingdeath would probably be the best scene ever filmed in a movie no matter how bad the movie itself was.))

I dont' want to see any of the, "for dummies" books become a movie.

I dont' want to see... ninja'd... but artemis fowl turned into a movie or Pendragon would just piss me off. We don't need more Eragon trash getting butchered on movies.

the wheel of time series, they actually are going to make it into a movie... and I'm scared: there is no way you can turn 14 books (lord of the rings sized books) into a movie. maybe a really long mini series (mega series it would have to be called)

Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Marukami.

It's my favourite book, but there's no way I can see it even remotely translating well to the screen.
Indeed. Could you also imagine them trying Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World? If anybody tried that, I may just die a little inside.

Personally, I'd be averse to any books I really like being made into books. They were created as books for a reason, they don't really need to be converted to another medium.

Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. A brilliant book, but I could bet a film adaptation would just end up seeming like a disjointed, incoherent muddle.

It's not really a novel and it's already being made into a movie, but I'd rather Priest (Korean graphic novel, or "manwha" if you so desire) was left alone. I guess they got to do it this way, while vampires are still in, but this still isn't the story I remember reading!

For me personally I belive that any book can be turned into a film. Providing the director is talented enough.

Ecstacy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance by Irvine Welsh. 9_9 I'm afraid Hollywood would destroy the crazy people in the novel.
I think Trainspotting was very well done as a film. I haven't read the book, so I can't exactly do a side by side comparison, but I don't see why another Welsh book couldn't be turned into a movie.
Don't get me wrong, Trainspotting was excellent, but I'm always afraid that some director somewhere is gonna just eff it all up. :/ And, maybe exploit some facts that the first story was just f**ked up in every sense of the term.

Definitely Ender's Game. I love the book to death, and it's actually my favorite, but nearly the whole book is narrative. Not even close to enough dialogue.
Agreed, and add to that:
The Earthsea books, Snow Crash, The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, A Confederacy of Dunces, Lullaby, the Phantom Tollbooth, Good Omens, and everything by Terry Pratchett
Actually, in all honesty, I would like to see The Phantom Tollbooth. It's one of my favorite books, and if we could get, say, Tim Burton or, to a lesser extent, Guillermo del Toro to direct, it might turn out quite well.

Atlas Shrugged

It's a great book, but just too long to be a movie. And half of what makes the book great are the small details, which would be lost in a movie.

I'm going to go with the ninjas and say Terry Pratchett, I love the books and watching them get molested by film is not my idea of a good time.

On the other hand I'd love to see Robin Hobbs books get made into movies, I admit it I cried when nighteyes died alright... leave me alone!

Stephen Erikson's Malazan Books of the Fallen.

Please go never let a director get his hands on those. They are amazing books but any movie would a be a rush job and be abysmal.

Really? I looked into it, and out of the 5 or so adaptations, most reviewers said they were all shit.

The Red Pony... a depressing, horrible book that gets high ratings from many for some reason. It would make an even worse movie.
