Wheel of Time. First, it simply can't be done, the books are too long and detailed. Second, it would be shameful because it would die after the first movie because it sounds like LotR in the beginning. And third, there is just no way it could be good. The characters are too deeply written for anything on the screen to get even close. Maybe a television series could attempt it, I'd actually see an anime or cartoon being the best bet. But never ever a movie.

A little late. Already been done.
Haven't seen it.
Awesome book though!
I saw it, it was okay. Nothing special, can't really get angry at it.

The Sharpe series, because I just know they would try and put a bunch of them into one movie. They tried that with the made for tv thing, and completely fucked up the plot. Mashed the first couple books, changed a bunch of other shit around, changed people's names, and generally fucked the whole thing up.

R.A. Salvatore's The Crystal Shards.

I know no matter how great the writing, the scripts, special effects, or acting, Drizzt would never come out right.

I cant think of a single actor i would want to play this icon of perfect character devolpment.
Any of his books, honestly. No one could play Drizzt or Jarlaxle or Entreri to my liking...

I love books and I love movies, so I always get super excited when I hear a book I like is being made into a movie, many times have I been dissapointed(Im looking at you Golden compass and Hitchhikers guide...) but I still keep getting happy when I hear about a book being made into a movie.

It already happened. Eragon. Oh god. The books are decent. There is no excuse for that horrid piece of film.

The Oxford English Dictionary.

Way too long, too many characters with cameos and you just know Zythum will end up being the bad guy.
Touche...
It has actually been done twice. One in black and white (the cast of children sent a letter to the author William Golding saying how horrible a man he was for writing such a terrible book; terrible in this case being depressing, awful ideas but not badly written). The updated version came out in 1990 much adapted with swearing etc. Both were mediocre films and truthfully I didn't care for the book either. It was turned down by 21 publishing houses before being printed and the main reason everyone knows it is because school forces every kid to read the damn thing. (sorry if I'm poo pooing your favorite book :) feel free to voice your objection)

Anyway I think the movies did an ok job at conveying the book but neither were particularly good.

I know it is already happening but i don't want The Hobbit to become a movie the book was so good and i am afraid that they will ruin it, Peter Jackson made the Lord Of The Rings trioligy realy good and i hope he won't screw this up.

Lives of the monster dogs. It's one of my favorites and i will not allow the cinima to butcher it.

Screwtape Letters, Lord Foulgrin's Letters, and The Ishbane Conspiracy.

All are fine books, but when the core focus of each book is the direct correspondence amongst demons (the titular letters), it wouldn't exactly make for a good film adaptation.

I saw it, it was SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT.
The book was too, and, since I went to the school he taught at, they would not shut the fuck up about it.

A movie's already been made of Dune. It was quite good, but I did have to explain it to my boyfriend, who hadn't read it, in some spots. I think it was made by David Lynch, correct me if I'm wrong.

Hmm, I'd have to say that Holes was a pretty good adaptation (so it's a kid's book, it's still a good adaptation of it). And so was The Outsiders, actually the most accurate/good one I've seen that managed to capture the spirit of the book.

But out of books that I've read that I would hate to see turned into a movie? Uhm...

The Gone series maybe. A lot of it is based on the character's thoughts and it's extremely plotty. And lots of characters and lots of books would mean it would work only as a TV series(even then...) if you cut out some of the characters. And the study of teenagers and children's behavior. And most of the plot. Basically anything that made it interesting is probably too complicated to seriously delve into in live-action.

Other than that, I'm not sure. It really depends on what you're willing to adjust/sacrifice to make the switch between book and film as painless as possible. I'm trying to adapt a story I've written to comic form, and it's hard to get the emotions to translate properly. And, say, if I was going to make a flash animation or something, I would have different challenges.

Oh man, exspecially Entreri.

If you can barly cast someone to be Drizzt, how can you cast someone to play his polar opposite?

The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galax...oh wait.

to be fair it wasn't a bad movie but i was a hardcore fan at the time and the film seemed to be so stripped down, like every book to film movie tends to be.

anything terry pratchett, its already been tried and does not work. Half the appeal with his books is the way he plays with the english language and finds humour in words, this is not filmable.
But there was a straight to TV and DVD movie that was a very faithful adaption of The Color of Magic and The Light Fantastic, the director even made it in two parts (to coincide with the cliffhanger in The Color of Magic)
And it was really, really good

Actually, they'd start out with Homeland, and with a young Drizzt. Though I agree, I can't think of anyone. Maybe motion capture...? With Salvatore doing the casting?
Eh, but then your getting into CGI, and theres a hair thin line between good and bad CGI.

And even then, starting back at the begining could doom the series from the start. When you start doing extended scripting, filming and casting, many more mistakes can happen. Plus, half my friends who know who drizzt is never read that far back. they were introduced to him through the Crystal Shards.

hell, one of my friends unlocked him in the Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance game. he had no clue who drizzt was before that. ((i more or less slapped him and called him a heathen.))
