Obviously spoken by someone who's never run his own business.
really does that make your opinion any different then mine in terms of importance no it doesn't
In terms of importance? No.

In terms of experience and competence in determining what makes sense in the context of contractual concerns? Absolutely.
so your defending your opinion by using the experience excuse how can someone defend against that.

"The experience excuse?" Wow.

I don't know how someone can defend against reality. I'm a software developer, not a White House staffer, so I'm not sure how the "spin" works.

seek to defend or justify seems like an excuse to me. Even being a software developer doesn't mean you can know everything about stuff like this.

It's not a matter of "knowing everything." It's minimum basic knowledge. It's like you're saying that someone who doesn't build cars doesn't know everything about driving, so his assertion that you can get a ticket for running a stop sign is trying to "excuse" good driving habits.

If you sign a contract, then what's in the contract is what holds. It doesn't matter if the other guy says "Oh, that clause is just standard legal boilerplate. We won't actually do that." When he DOES do that and you try to take him to court for it, you're basically told 'you shouldn't have signed the contract.'

That's simply what I'm doing. I'm not accepting Valves TOS for Steam in terms of games I buy. To say that it's "worrying about something that doesn't make sense" shows that you really don't know what you're talking about.

And I pointed out that it makes perfect sense in terms of contracts, and corporate lawyers always express EULA's in terms of being contracts (valid or not, depends on jurisdiction and the judge's mood). So if it doesn't make sense to you, it's because you know not of that which you speak.

so just because i don't think worrying about something they can do makes sense means i know nothing if you say so.

Uh. No. I said it means you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to dealing with contracts. Here's another free tip: it really helps with contracts if you read what's actually written. Actually, you'll probably want to make sure to have a lawyer help out, because it looks like you might have a problem with that aspect.

As if there wasn't enough evidence that the educational system in this country was screwed up... It amazes me how people get out of high school without knowing this stuff.

Can't wait for this game, loved the shit out of the first one and glad it is seeing a sequel. Gaming has gotten far to serious for my liking and this game help to balance it out, Nice that I'm not running around with modern weaponry too, getting the chest edition without a second doubt.

Okay, then it's evidence of screwed up education in two countries, then (I'm assuming that you're still out of High School by 25 in Canada).

That's germane to this conversation? Not much. Marginally more interested in consumer protection than the US, but not by much.

Mostly what Canadian net-friends have told me. Apparently, according to law, they're still technically subjects of Britain's Queen. They're on the US watch list for piracy because they took a semi-sane approach to dealing with copyright issues (taxes assayed on recording media paid to the industry to cover downloads). Responsible for both Bill Shatner (thanks!) and Justin Bieber (you bastards!). Hawkeye Pierce (Alan Alda), too, I think. Has a coin called a Loony.

That's about all I'm pulling out of the memory banks at the moment.

UPDATE: Oh yeah. It's also directly north of the US. I would have thought that it could go without saying that I knew that, then I remembered the general (and not entirely undeserved) opinion of my countrymen.

Will you two please just break it up? This thread isn't supposed to be an argument about Steam's terms of service.
