Me and my friend have finally finished Borderlands after around 30-40 hours of some of the most fun we have ever had in our 11 years of gaming (even longer for him, he had his own consoles, my first one was at the age of 10. Pity me!)

The final boss is a giant octopus...thing, which shoots a laser beam. Yes, you heard me, a laser beam shooting octopus. Like a lot of the game, this kinda goes against genetics. How can an octopus even shoot a laser beam? Like scientists have discovered recently, with the octopus that protects itself with coconuts, these octopi fight back. Let's hope they find nothing like this soon.

Now, onto what I thought. I had heard from sites such as GameSpot (I have lost faith in them after the Jeff Gertsmann incident) that the ending was unsatisfying. I do not believe them. Sure, I was expecting some of the best weaponry ever devised this side of Gabe Newell's office, but instead I got a boss fight with something called the Destroyer. Bit of an overstatement there; he was dead within 10 minutes. In those 10 minutes, I had wasted my sniper rifle's ammo, died about 3 times, and had used Bloodwing several times before realising he had no effect on the damn monster. I had fun fighting this monstrosity, not finding it unsatisfying, seeing as Steele got owned. Was a bit disappointed that the weapons it dropped were crap compared to the ones I had on my person, but who was I to care? I had fun on my travels around Pandora, and seeing it end with no reward as such wasn't that disappointing, as I am going to play through it again...and again...and again.

I loved this game. It's an RPG that is actually fun and addictive. It feels similar to Fallout 3 due to it being set in a kinda post-apocalyptic wasteland, but I found it much better. The characters were funny (Nine Toes's introduction was the best. Anyone agree?), the fights hectic, and the missions, whilst not very varied, were a lot of fun. Except the Scavenger missions. Seriously, finding those weapons pieces easily pissed me off. They were in such stupid places!

Overall, I loved the game. It had a sense of humour that a lot of other games don't have these days. Gearbox are now liked by me and, hopefully, others who have played this game. I even liked the ending, despite what other reviewers have said, and the lead up to the opening of The Vault was just pure fun. RPG + shooter = very happy customer.

Loved: Characters
The mission, whilst being samey, were all fun
Gearbox (well, now)
Fuckload of weaponry. Incendiary shotgun with a scope? WIN!

Hated: Having to pay for the DLC, but it is ultimately worth it
The weapons dropped by the Destroyer. They were crap, but who was I to care?
It's not AS good in single player, it's amazing in co-op. Make sure you have friends

9.5/10

One of the best gaming experiences that hasn't been made by Valve. Buy it...but make
sure you play it in co-op, or else you're missing out

I played both single player and multi-player, and I actually preferred singleplayer.

Still, great game.

Interesting review.

Personally I found the final boss pathetic. I was level 32. I had no trouble beating it. When the max level cap is 50 I expected so much more.

The thing that bothered me most about the final fight was the fact that all I really had to do was stand in one spot and fire at its weak spot til it died. No dodging required, no strategy. Just stand still and click.

I did find the final boss very underwhelming and actually less of a challange than some of the earlier bosses. The remaining shards sticking up out of the ground can be hid behind and doing so makes you invlulnerable. Even the shockwave doesn't get you. It just became a routine of :

1. Hide.
2. Pop out. Shoot in eye.
3. Keep shooting till he is about to attack.
4. Hide.

Unfortunately, the multiplayer on PC was almost completely broken, you couldn't connect. I could only play coop with one person, and I'm not sure if it fixed now. I had a lot of fun in singleplayer though!

The final boss was less of a challenge due to the constant levelling up during the game. Well, that's what I think.
Favourite boss has got to be Nine Toes.
Favourite mission? Finding TK Baha. Just finding him made me crease

You missed

5. Look on in disappointment and shock that the final boss managed to drop, at best, one blue. If you were lucky.

I mean come the fuck on Gearbox, this is the last boss of a q-Diabl, it should at least be guaranteed one solid good drop.

I enjoyed the game. I was expecting a bit more at the end, but I was amused that it was kinda a slap in the face of usual endings as far as adventures go. Everyone of course expects to go into the vault and find all these treasures, but nope. you're screwed out of ever going in there because you were too late. *cue up Nelson from The Simpson's "HA HA!"*

the little scene with the claptrap being an assassin was funny, Although it would have been funnier if you started up the second playthrough of the game, only to be attacked by him straight off the bus. At least that would have been a little more satisfying, with the irritation of him yelling "I'm over here!"

the game in general was pretty awesome in the humor department. It liked to fuck with the players a lot, such as the hidden claptrap up above the weapon and ammo shop in Firestone that mocks you with "Woohooooo" and "i'm over here" while you can't reach him because of a hidden border.

As Marcos says in the beginning though: "I'm sure we'll be doing this again very shortly".
It's not often I play through a game more than once, and this is one of them that grabbed my interest that long to have me play through another 2 times.

That's what I tell everyone: don't play Borderlands for the story or the ending. Just play Borderlands for Borderland's sake, and you will have fun. I just hope that if they make a sequel, they try to flesh out the story and universe a lot more. There is a lot of potential there with Atlas being the crummy bastards they are, but they really didn't do anything in this game. I think it would be awesome if they could flesh out the RPG aspects a lot more to be like Mass Effect while still maintaining the core gameplay. I'm not even talking about drastic changes, just something that alters the presentation of the game more than the actual gameplay.

I'm not totatlly sure, but I think that final boss was meant to be C'thu'lu (spelling?) Not totally sure, but it matches descriptions pretty well and would kinda make sense.

You messed with the WRONG DOG!

*CROTCH CHOP*

Actually, I prefered Sledge's intro, and Doctor Ned. Who is totally not Zed. (WHO KNEW!?!)

P.S.

He's not your friend.

I agree, I actually liked it.

And my favorite intro is the Zombie Island of Dr. Ned's final boss' second intro.

Laughed my ass off.

I'm going to complete the second playthrough and then purchase the DLC's for it :)

Or should I purchase the DLC's now?

(I think I've only JUST left the starting area on my 2nd playthrough...)

i hid behind its own tentacle, and had regenerating ammo for my team. it was pathetically easy
mothra was a biatch to bring down

i wasnt expecting weapons, but im disappointed that the ones it dropped were crap
i also found having teammates made everything harder unless they were a higher level, because they jacked up the enemy level, even if they (the teammates) were level one and the enemy are already 50
also, is there a playthrough 3? because i beat no2 and didnt get a pl3 option. then again i didnt do all the side missions. do i have to do these as well?

Corrosive is better against shields. If you look at the tips posted on the loading screens, it says that incendiary guns are better against non-shielded foes

Corrosive is better against armored enemies. Shock effect is better against shields, Fire is good against flesh, or just handy for a constant health drain.
