In "The Pitt" in Fallout 3, I felt bad about killing the leader of the slavers. Because he was an okay guy, but he wanted to achieve his goals through slavery, which wasn't okay.

Mysterio - Spiderman 2. That guy was so damn fucking awesome. That boss battle still goes down as the single greatest boss battle ever conceived.
Amen to that

Also, probably...uh...Cortex from Crash Bandicoot (any of the Naughty Dog ones + Twinsanity) because he was so DAMN AWESOME. Loved his theme tune in the first game

Any of the other CB titles (though I refuse to acknowledge them as that), I consider killing him a mercy killing

Shadow of the Colossus. Those poor roaming giants!
Yeah I feel this! They all seem so innocent. (except the lizard, don't like lizards) The main character is such a dick! Killing all those peaceful colossus just to save one life! Greedy greedy greedy.
Well I don't know if I would go quite that far, but I agree with the general sentiment. I suppose the game wants you to feel sad, doesn't it? Hence the sweeping dramatic musical cues, and the forlorn cries of pain. Great game, but bit manipulative, isn't it?

I think this might be a little obscure, I don't really know anyone else who bought/played this series, but Red from Penumbra: Overture. Poor guy.

Nihilus and Sion from KOTOR2, Vader in SW: Force Unleashed, and Alessa Gillespie and Walter Sullivan from Silent Hills 1 and 4.

GLaDOS. I got to like her, and she brought me much joy. Granted, she wanted me dead, but still having to fight her made me sad...
agree entirely. man, that bit where you were told to put that module that ended up being her morality core in the fire. i had a really bad feeling about doing it and was like "man, not cool... i don't want to... and then when i had to it made everything go nuts! sad

Once I realized what was actually happening to him, I felt kinda bad about Saren in ME1. I felt like it was a shame he couldn't have been saved, but Sovereign had dug in too deep.

The Mechanist in Fallout 3

So I had successfully gotten the Antagonizer to quit and be good, so I put on her helmet cause it was cool looking, but when I got to the Mechanist's lair, I was still wearing it, he threatened me and attacked me, and no matter what he wouldn't stop, so I had to kill him...I felt bad...

EDIT: Got one. Uther the Lightbringer, waaaay back in Warcraft III. He was also badass, and old, and had a manly beard, and had been there most of the series. And he was totally in the right. You were the bad guy when killing him. And Arthas was utterly remorseless about it. What a dick.
I hated Uther and I felt very satified that Arthras did kill him. All of the humans were useless morons. I hated all of the Elven quest in the Frozen Throne. I forget the hunter lady's name but I wanted her to die as soon as I found out she was chasing Illiden. Illiden was awesome.
I do have to agree with you on the second point. Maiev was an overzealous, paranoid *****. Illidan was awesome, and it was Maiev's fault Arthas survived into WoW, seeing as she stopped Illidan's little ceremony which would have destroyed Northrend and really would have saved everyone's ass. Every time Illidan tries to do something nice, Maiev comes in and screws him over and makes him evil again. And the she thinks she's helping. Psh.

...Loghain, sure he betrayed Cailan and by choosing to make him a warden Alistair quits, so he had to die for my guy.

But the fact everything he did was part of a paranoid and twisted plan to protect Fereldan from Orlais rather than his own personal goals. When you consider evidence from Return to Ostager that Cailan was cheating on Anora with the Empress of Orlais in an attempt to secure some sort of alliance/heir, this is a huge betrayal to both a patriot/national hero and father in law.

Throwing in the fact he didn't know why Gray Wardens are necessary to end a blight and thought they were just an vestigial institution trying to carve some power out of the nation as well.

I could also feel his frustration with Lord Howe and how he only had sycophantic supporters rather than the great houses he thought he deserved.

But it was his last words, about daughter never truly growing up, before I executed him that made me feel sad.

I really wanted a dialogue option to tell him how much I respected his service to Fereldan.

I saw his character and mine as being very similar people, the necessary evil to the rightous king (Maric, Alistair), people forced to make crap decisions because no one else will or can.
I gotta say, my way went quite differently. I felt that after supporting Alistair for the throne and that he was still obsessed with revenge after I'd realised how empty mine was (I was Human Noble - Howe etc) I decided to give Loghain a chance to redeem himself. I kept imagining Leliana telling my character that Loghain's legend as a hero to Fereldan and an ender of the blight would long outlive any of the rest of us, but my character knew it was for the greater good.

...

Does anyone else imagine what conversations you WANT to happen in RPGs as you play along them?

OT: Probably Ocelot at the end of MGS4. The guy was probably the coolest bad guy ever, and after what you find out after the fight it makes it even more sad that you had to beat him to death.

Shadow of the Colossus.

Made me feel like the main character was just a selfish prick
well yeah, he is a selfish prick.

but he did it to get the girl,so it's okay.........i guess.
No, it makes him even more of a selfish prick since he's only doin' it for some tang.
i can relate to that somehow, anyway he got what he deserved, he will live the rest of his life loving his mom in a ''strange'' way.

Jecht in Final fantasy 10... or Braska's Final Aeon. He was as badass as it gets in that game, plus he wasn't evil.

Not a boss really but the people from dark brotherhood sanctuary in cheydinhal in TES IV made me feel real bad after killing them as they're easily the coolest most fleshed out NPC's in the game and they didn't treat you like shite, like all of the other npc's in oblivion.

Andrew Ryan - i dont care that i had to kill him. it just annoyed me it wasnt my choice
Agreed. If only there could have been a way to resist it. Once you actually understand you are being controlled, having the option to fight it would have been nice. Regardless it was a great scene.

Gunther from Deus Ex. It's not because he was paticularly likable, but because I used his killphrase instead of fighting him head on, which felt kind of like cheating.
I actually kind of liked Gunther. I was sad that there was no way around killing him.
