So, not sure if someone has brought this up, but holy shit. What in God's name is wrong with some people. I can't even fathom how a person could remotely think this is funny

Not seen that one. Saw the Trayvon Martin one, and the plane crash ones, though, which are arguably worse.

But yeah, that is very wrong. And...there will be hordes of people coming to defend it, saying that people speaking ill of her is infringing on her free speech and that there are worse things in the world.

Some asshole shot up a theater on the early release of The Dark Knight Rises in a Joker costume. I have no idea what's wrong with people that they ever think this is a good idea.

Where I live, one of the news reports tried to make it into a local interest story by pointing out that the Joker was played by Australia's own Heath Ledger.

Some peoples' more compass need retuning.

I think a good slap in the face would do better, but whatever floats your boat.

Nope. He called himself the Joker, but he wasn't wearing a Joker costume.

Common misconception.

Duly noted, but getting the punchline wrong doesn't make it funny. Still an asshole.

I find it weird that Halloween costumes are supposed to be "funny" nowadays.

Whatever happened to Halloween being a holiday that celebrated fear and the things that make us afraid? People dress up like serial killers, murderous psychopaths, and monsters and that's fine, but dressing up as something that's truly scary crosses the line?

Devils and ghosts scare children, why can't adults have more adult costumes about what scares them? Why do people have to dress up as some kind of pretend evil when there's real evil in the world?

I remember a few years ago there was a big issue with some teens who dressed up as the Twin Towers in a small town back home in Saskatchewan. Shock costumes just ain't funny and worth it kiddos, go be something actually creative instead.

Oh and while I think the costume was in poor taste, do we really have to send her parents death threats internet? Really? Really?!

Sending people (especially women) death threats via the internet is the default response to everything.

Really, really don't be famous, even 15 minutes of fame via viral news story famous. Be "second, unidentified man storming the embassy" famous, less people want to kill you.

She's a stupid twat, don't get me wrong...

But it's such a typical internet reaction. Death threats to the parents?! Harassing the woman?
It's makes the people going that far look nearly as a shitty person as she is.
What she did wasn't right and she needs to know it was wrong but the aftermath is too much.
'hurr hurr this woman did something bad, we'll teach her by also doing something bad!'

The low life cunts who harassed/are harassing her are far, far worse than what she did. Honestly though, I don't really see anything too wrong with what she did. It was neat enough for a horror costume. It's a little insensitive, but that's what shock is all about.

Anyway, sucks to hear she lost her job. I hope she can move on from this successfully. Ahh... fuck internet vigilantism.. fuck it to hell.

Death threats are pretty cheap online, hell I've received death (and rape) threats for making a YouTube video where Pikachu's head is blown off. I laughed at them, especially the guy who said he'd rape my cat (I don't have a cat). But seriously, this costume is too soon, much too soon.

So during a day when everyone is encouraged to dress up as something scary, people get blamed for dressing up as something actually scary. Silly people with their silly overreaction.

And here I was, thinking that internet death threats immediately vindicate whoever they're directed at and make them a saint. Because making internet death threats at people makes them right, or something. Least that's the impression I got. On the internet. Okay, I think I can see the problem with the notion.

But seriously, crass and tasteless, and she's not nearly as clever and witty as the thinks she is. I'd actually call her somewhat pretentious. And that's terrible.

I don't like pretentious.

The real outrage here is the fact that people are issuing death threats over her costume and harassing her and her family. It's one of those situations that makes you realise no one gives a flying fuck about freedom of speech if the speech is offending them.

Heh, I laughed. Sure, it's insensitive (which is kinda the joke, surely?) but not worth making such a fuss over. That's pretty much my entire opinion on it, I really struggle to understand how people get so wound up by these things. On a vaguely related note, my brother went as Harold Shipman last year and no one gave a fuck.

Don't see what the problem is, a little shock is good. But then again i'm not american so who knows maybe it is offensive to some priviliged soccer mom who thinks her kid will be a drop out if he sees that in public

There are worse things in the world.

The actual bombing, for instance.

I don't necessarily condone this individuals choice of costume(that is to say, I don't personally find it funny), but ultimately I don't think it's worth making a fuss over.

In this instance I'm going to go with the "Don't agree with what you say (or in this case, wear), but will defend to the death your right to [wear] it." as my stance.

This, however:

But the backlash didn?t stop there. When some discovered that Lynch had once posted a photo of her driver?s license online, they used her home address and other personal information to assist with further attacks. One user tweeted that he sent Lynch a vile package, others found racy photos of her online and circulated them, and some even tracked down her parents’ contact information and sent them death threats.
This is people going out and actually causing (or attempting to cause) harm to another human being. Those are the people who I personally find quite vile and disgusting. Those are the people who (in a potentially hilarious and obscene level of irony) I would actually quite like to take to one side and beat the shit out of.

(That last part was deliberately ironic, and tongue-in-cheek, just so everyone is 100% clear, I've had problems with people not getting that about my posts in the past)

Man, you folks are sensitive. That's a pretty funny idea for a costume, thinking outside the box a bit.

I'll be honest, the overblown reaction kinda makes it better. Keep on truckin' girl.
