Realy suprised how many people are so shocked about this...someone gets killed in a dispute and everyone is going "oh the world" yeah i know the reason is trivial but still it's not realy something to be that schocked about there are a lot worse things going on...for instance http://momento24.com/en/2009/11/19/teenager-kills-9-year-old-neighbour-to-see-how-it-felt-like/

Surely it isn't this:
abandoned by their mother
or this:
spent 10 years as wards of the state
or even this:
She was visiting Belgium when the killing happened
Nooohohoooo siree! My expert detective nose tells me there's a scent of something much more sinister going on here. Clearly all the clues point to THIS:
simply for turning on / playing his PS3
being the very cause of the murder!

Yes, but it's so much easier to find a scapegoat isn't it? And it makes for much biased controversial anti-game journalism. Such a childhood would leave pretty decent scars on anyone, but it's only mentioned marginally.

/signed.

Honestly, he was a murder waiting to happen in any case. In this case, his brother messing with his stuff was the last straw on an already mangled camel's back. It could easily have been because he borrowed his pencil without asking.

Maybe they meant he was "turning on his PS3"

As in he was using the USB ports in an improper fashion and thus enraged his brother..

But in all fairness haven't we all almost killed our siblings at one point or another?

I'll have to agree with you. Noone would kill their sibling for turning on a console, not even the mentally unstable.
There was probably a fight about it and as the article said, things got out of control.
I'd go so far as to say this was merely the straw that broke the camel's back. I know i want to kick my brother's ass every time i see him (he makes me RAGE).

EDIT: really, someone used the same expression as i did? ninjas are so unoriginal, man.

He probably got an adrenaline rush and he happened to have a knife near him so he stabbed him just to "give back" and maybe just hurt him a little bit, not kill him. I've felt like hitting my brother with a hammer or my fists many times when he have bullied me, luckily I have controlled myself :p

I think 5 years are a proper ammount of time...he is sixteen years old if he is released at 21 after therapy and jailtime he might be resocialized...but if you put a 16 year old in jail for 20 years he will never be able to live in a normal society, and most likely end up in jail again because he stabbed someone for cutting in front of him at the cashier or something else that seems trivial to people who didn't spend more time in jail than in freedom

Good news is the PS3 won't be touched by his brother anymore. Bad news is he won't be touching it either in prison!

I'm pretty sure they can make an appeal in court for the kid to be tried as an adult rather than a minor. The kid is 16. Two years is no much of a difference when it comes to murder charges like these.

Really? Who kills their own brother over a device, in fact who kills their own brother regardless. Hes your brother for god's sake. they should be nice together not fighting each other over meaningless things. Now one of them is dead. I hope that kid regrets what he did for the rest of his life.

Sorry, its just things like this really REALLY piss me off.
Im sorry but Brothers are supposed to fight over meaningless things, its part of being Brothers!

But grabbing a knife over meaningless things is a bit much
I know my brother and I fight all the time. Sometimes we hit eachother and stuff like that. I know it is just a part of being brothers. Still, I never have know any fights I have had that have built to really doing damage (using knifes and other weapons). I think you should be able to calm down before anything like that happens. I just don't see how it could escilate into something like stabbing someone. Especially if it is their brother.
Easy!
The kid was convinced that his brother would respawn anyway.
No big deal

poor fucked up kid.

abandoned by mom, ward of the state, killing brother.
I think his brother's the poor one... Well, 'was', anyway.

Kid needs to be sectioned immediately. Any other course of action would be stupid.

Five fucking years? Give me a knife! I have a list
The kid was under eighteen, so you have a time limit.

Not that I condone this behavior. But get Pix and don't forget a youtube rant to post just before you do it for posterity sakes.

Well you see if it was a 360 he might have let him live, but you have to understand it WAS a PS3 so it is an immanent domain issue. It goes back to the make my day laws.

Go on punk, touch that power switch, I dare ya.
Do ya feel lucky? Do ya? STAB!
Flawless Victory!
*edit* Stabality!
