200 Points.......First Blood..........Bulls-eye.......

On Topic:
This story has nothing to do with video games....But this would make a great Mothers Against Drunk Driving ad.
Stop drinking and driving before someone you know throws a knife at you.

How did he think that was a good idea?
"Obviously those dern vid'ja games of his!
Corruptin' the youth n whatnot..."

Or atleast that's what FOX news will say.

"Then he got down and prayed to Private Allen, the terrorist from the newest war simulator, Modern Warfare 2! Details at 11!"
[sub]This joke may or may not actually come to fruition. If it does, I fucking called it.[/sub]
If it does come to fruition, I'll have to stab you repeatedly after a long session of Modern warfare 2 solve peacefully that you gave them ideas.

It could be he had little other choice. Stabbing her in the right place is guaranteed to not kill her, but if she got in an automobile drunk, she could have very easily killed a child, another motorist, or an entire family on the road even mere blocks from their house, before police would arrive to try to find the car and its license plate number.

You can't reason or rationalize with a drunk person, especially a self-centered one that wouldn't even listen if sober.

Stabbing is safer than bludgeoning or anesthetizing with drugs too, maybe next time he should get a tazer; but since he probably didn't have one, a shallow cut with a disinfected blade would certainly get across the point.
This might be the greatest first post for someone EVER! So True. Congrats.

The confrontation began when the 14-year-old boy attempted to take his 31-year-old mother's car keys because he felt she was too drunk to drive. The mother fled the house with the keys and her son responded by throwing a knife, striking her in the upper body.
The kid threw a knife and stabbed his mom? He THREW it and got it to stab her? Like, MW2 style? That kid has some mad fucking skills.

In all honesty, I can see that his intentions were good, but man, throwing a knife at your mom is way over the top.

I dont want to seem like a dick as I dont drink myself and my mum parties fairly hard... but anyone thought that maybe hes lying... if he was telling the truth then props to him for stoping his mum from possibly killing herself and others by grieviously wounding her the twat. Also the military should look into hiring this kid as pulling off a shot like that with a knife which proberly wasnt designed for such activities and, if similar to my kitchen knifes, isnt that sharpe against a stumbling, intoxicated mother is impressive.

I just saw this article on my home page:
Link [http://autos.sympatico.ca/automotive-news/3501/boy-throws-knife-at-mom-to-prevent-dui]

"According to local authorities, a Winnipeg teenager stabbed his mother this past saturday in an attempt to stop her from drinking and driving.

The confrontation began when the 14-year-old boy attempted to take his 31-year-old mother's car keys because he felt she was too drunk to drive. The mother fled the house with the keys and her son responded by throwing a knife, striking her in the upper body.

The unidentified woman remains in hospitable in a stable condition. The teenage boy has been charged with aggravated assault, and is currently being held at the Manitoba Youth Centre."

So, what's up with that? I think the kid has his heart in the right place - that is, to try and prevent drunk driving - but to throw a knife at someone? Maybe he plays too many video games! *gasp*

Wait, then he'd know a knife is an insta-kill... and probably wouldn't have done it.

Anyway, what do you Escapists think? Pretty crazy? Kudos to the kid or should he be punished?
Lock him up and take her licence off her for a year and make her resit the driving test. Simple.

The kid could well have saved a few lives. Good for him. He may also have a future as a carney.

Agreed about the mom, but the boy is only 14 he can't get locked up. Maybe some community service. I think all he really needs is some counselling. Obviously he should have taken a different course of action, but he probably had no idea what that would be, panicked, and threw... well, a knife. But good intentions! (Sadly some of the biggest attrocities are commited with the "best intentions")

Sure you can. Its called juvie. It'll either straighten him out completely or teach him how to stab someone properly. Either way the kid learns skills that will serve him well for the rest of his life (like being a well adjusted citizen or a well trained criminal), and his mother learns that there are consequences to making some stupid mistakes.

This confuses me on so many levels.

How did the situation where she was running and he was holding a knife in a throwing position arise?

How did he think that was a good idea?
I was wondering the same thing myself. All I can think is that he was making himself dinner 'cause his mom is a lush and too drunk to do it herself. But who knows.

Well, first thought is that video games will be blamed for this pretty quickly. Second thought is that the boy should have called 911 with his mother's license plate and reported the DUI. That would have been the far more sensible and responsible thing to do. Kudos for the boy's initial attempts to prevent her from driving, but nega-kudos for the knife throw.
The problem with that idea is that she is already behind a 1 - 2 ton hunk of metal moving at roughly 25 MPH - since that's usually the limit for non-major city streets. With that weight and speed you can do some damage to inanimate objects that are not moving (e.g. mailbox, street sign, etc.); now replace that object with a person walking home from school (like my friends when we get out of our class at 1am - prime drunk-driver time) or how about a vehicle moving in the opposite direction at the same speed...someone is going to die and it won't be the drunk driver.

It's great if the police catch her before she even leaves her block, but the chances of that are slim and that leaves her with a deadly instrument in an unknown direction - she can turn anywhere to get where she's going.

Driving test is a slight inconvenience. Having her take DRIVERS ED, as if she never took it before, would cement that idea of never getting behind the wheel drunk.

I will say that this reminded me of what all my C.O.s use say about your buddy being drunk (since you shouldn't be going out in town by yourself in a foreign country - power in numbers idea) "If the Marine you signed out on liberty gets in trouble and you did nothing to stop end then you're in just as much **** as he is. So if your buddy gets drunk and starts acting a fool, knock him the **** out and drag his *** home; he'll thank you later."
