That article is wrong, He killed 5 insurgents in 60 second at that distance, in the British papers at least. He also used the L115A3 which fires an 8.59mm bullet, which is not the same as an AWP

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/campaigns/our_boys/2960837/Sniper-shoots-5-Taliban-in-28-seconds-in-Helmand-Afghanistan.html

Its the Sun I know, but the other papers I read it in had the same numbers and quotes, but this was the first link I could find

Yeah, THAT is why I'm staying on Britian's good side, they have one of the most rigorous sniper training programs on Earth (last I heard the pass rate is like 4 out of every 100 or so)

Eat your heart out Hutch, Optic and T-Squared.... this is a real pro-sniper.

Found this little news article which I thought I would share with you guys:

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/international/sniper_kills_qaeda_from_mi_away_sTm0xFUmJNal3HgWlmEgRL#ixzz0nXUaKZbo

Basically, a British sniper downed two AL Qaeda insurgents from 8,120 feet, so far away they apparently wouldn't have even heard the shots being fired.

This is apparently the longest ever distance recorded for a sniper kill.

I doubt he got a hit marker...

Now I don't know anything about sniping but my guess is that this was an extreme feat of skill, any gun owners care to explain exactly how difficult this must have been and what was involved in hitting someone from that far?

And I have been told by a buddy that at that distance with a 50 Cal bullet, due to the air it pushes up it wouldn't even have to hit you to kill you, is this true?
He also won the Bad ass of the week for thoes shots^^

http://www.badassoftheweek.com/harrison.html

Btw, he dident use a 50. cal, but a .338 Lapua, which is somewhat smaller, but more accurate than the 50.

Theres more info about the shots on the above link.

Skill is required that's not up for discussion,

However,

1) Technology is available
-so this is really not that impressive-
2) No visible muzzle flash
3) No shot sound
-Will allow plenty of trial and error shots-

i mean kudos to the shooter, but that doesn't make him the best sniper.
You're forgetting the fact he is most likely one of the best shooters in the UK to begin with. To even make it as a military sniper speciailist you have to be outstanding.

And as others have pointed out, there was no trial and error. This guy is an outstanding shot
just read some more about the shot, i have to say i am now impressed, the guy did it with an AWM using conventional ammo, i take it back, i am impressed indeed.

no trial and error my ass: "Harrison reported it took about nine shots for him and his spotter to initially range the target successfully. Then, he reported, his first shot ?on target? was a killing shot.[7]"
"Trial and error" usually indicates actually trying to hit the target. Those first nine shots weren't actually aimed at the target, and were only to calculate both the range and how he should adjust the rifle/sight.
yes of course I understand this, but my point is that they were far enough to calibrate the shot, which FOR ME tunes down the hype about the kill shot it self.

but civilians arguing over who is hte best sniper is an exercise in idiocy. It's like virgins arguing over sexual prowess.
I take issue with this, not doing something doesn't mean your opinion is automatically invalid.

Not having children doesn't mean you don't know how to look after children, doctors don't get a tenth of the diseases they cure but when it comes to firing a weapon.... pfft stupid civilians.

No, and no, I reject that a thousand times, I understand that your leet with a sniper wiffle but don't go telling other people they can't like Simo Hayha because they're a "civ" and haven't fired a Mosin Nagant.

I'm adept with a sword but I never go online telling people that aren't samurai's they can't have an opinion about Nunchaku's because they haven't held one.

Sorry to rag on you, nothing personal (apart from your comment) it just irritates me when people do that... also I'm saying sorry because you know how to use a gun and I've got a sword and bow, so I'll straight out lose this fight if shit actually gets serious.

I went to that page and it had HARRISON in capitals.

Is it weird that I am reminded of the Specsavers advert by this?

When the acts in question are as complicated and secretive as this, your opinion may not be totally invalid, but it is so loosely connected to any reality as to be completely uninformed.

As to children, nearly everyone has children, and your doctor analogy is just wierd. If I had said you had to be SHOT by a sniper to judge snipers, it might make sense, but that's just bizarre.

Regarding Simo Hayha, I never said people can't like him. What I said is that arguing over "the best sniper" is pretty dumb, especially for people with no knowledge of the subject. And trust me on this, you really have no idea. Is it impossible to just appreciate this feat for what it was without going all e-peen trying to denigrate an accomplishment by comparing apples to oranges?

You may not go about telling people they can't have opinions about nunchaku, but wouldn't it be foolish for people with no knowledge of fencing to begin opining on the greatest swordsman of all time? You'd have to have some background in the art before being able to hazard an informed opinion. Otehrwise, it's as I said, virgins arguing over sex.

Longshot bonus!

And make this bonus worthy of so much EXP, that he immediately qualifies for the top secret 11th Prestige on all CoD games. Or gets all unlocks ever in every Battlefield game that ever has/will be made and features unlocks.

Being uniformed doesn't mean its invalid.

My Cousin likes Steven Seagal, he thinks he's the greatest actor ever, its wrong (quite clearly) to other people but its his opinion and I can't stop him liking "Exit Wounds" just because I think he's uninformed.

You know I actually agree with this because who the fuck can argue about something that is so secretive, but at the same time saying that your telling us "trust me you have no idea"... really? you don't actually know who here was a sniper and who wasn't.

You just made an assumption that your the only sniper here, which is fine but your basically saying you can't appreciate your art if you haven't done it, which isn't fine.

Dude your a hero, you don't want our adoration?, well you can't have it because we are clearly too stupid.

Dude, virgins argue over sex all the time, I'm sure you was a virgin once unless thats part of your training and you lose all past and transcend virginity, becoming some sort of Meta Virgin.

But in all seriousness, virgins do argue about sex, futile I agree, but there is no way shape or form that you can take it away from them.

This shit just became serious!, I've got my bow and sword ready, have at you Tarrou! *slaps Tarrou with white glove*

Depends on certain factors but yes its possible for air displacement to affect you, also you can be hit in the stomach with shotgun pellets from a distance where it doesn't perice your skin ( or armour) but still die due to the impact from the shot turning your intestines into mush inside your stomach

No, because the British soldier will have killed you before you even looked down the scope
