It never even occurred to me that they keep records of this kind of thing. It's like some kind of macabre sport. And what kind of combat roles was this guy in to get shot and bombed as well? I doubt he'll be sniping much again if both his arms were broken, but then it depends how badly.

p.s. Don't let the name mislead you - the Household Cavalry are some of the most bad arse mofo soldiers in the world. There was a fascinating documentary series on them that detailed the contrast between their ceremonial and combat duties.

I guess it's just in our nature to keep a record of achievements with any measurable value, macabre or not.

OT: Never get into a sniping match with a British soldier, you will loose!
At that distance, would you know you were in a sniping match?
No, because the British soldier will have killed you before you even looked down the scope
Announcer: Let the sniper's duel BEGIN!

You(proverbially speaking, of course): Wait, let the wh-?

Announcer: And we have a winner!

You would keep dying at spawn and start to scream into the mic because you don't see anyone.
But you do hear tea sipping and the occasional, "Good show lad!"
Jolly good! :)

And I have been told by a buddy that at that distance with a 50 Cal bullet, due to the air it pushes up it wouldn't even have to hit you to kill you, is this true?
actually an urban myth, it is a pretty massive bullet but it still is just a chunk of lead flying your way, not some magic missile. it actually is a rather slow round. if it will hit you, it will cause damage, obviously, but if it doesn't, you were lucky.

Skill is required that's not up for discussion,

However,

1) Technology is available
-so this is really not that impressive-
2) No visible muzzle flash
3) No shot sound
-Will allow plenty of trial and error shots-

i mean kudos to the shooter, but that doesn't make him the best sniper.
If he had missed, the shot would have been heard afer 5-6 seconds(Due to the fact that sound travels slower than a bullet, they would have heard the shot eventualy), this would not allow for plenty of trial shots.

Just because tech is available dosnt mean:
1 he used it
2 it would help him make the shot (it would more likey be used help him see them better)
3 the disatance would have meant even the most high powered sniper with all the state of the art aiming assistance and magnifying capabilitys, would still have a good chance of missing by miles.

Fair enough.

Though the buddy who told me it does is a sniper for the Irish army. So maybe they live in two alternate realities?

Hey we all know the British are the bosses of sniping.

I mean Red Alert 2 acknowledged it so it must be, judging by the incredible historical accuracy of the game, true.

i would not know really^^ has your friend ever been issued any ordonance in that caliber? i have been told the Irish Defence Force would use the AI96 chambered in 7,62x51mm, though that is just what i heared and i might be wrong and they do use something chambered in 12.7x99mm (or .50 as our non-metric escapists would say^^)

allright, there is only one way to settle this once and for all! we need a pig, a rifle and lots of empty space...^^

knocked out the Canadian's record by just under 200ft. Good on ya.

So the standings are:
First = Britain
Second = Canada
Third = USA?
Actually I think third is Canada too. Part of the same team that set the now broken world record. Beat the previous American record by 78 feet.

Being uniformed doesn't mean its invalid.
ColdStorage, please think about what you just said for a few minutes. It is truly one of the most ridiculous things that I have ever read.

real life has been kicking in, said boyfriend actually showed himself for a while so obviously no time for the escapist. but i vow improvement on the time i spend with my favorite nerd-base^^

i think i found something on the interwebs that makes sense, so maybe we can let bobby kotick live for this one. someone said:

The only way a bullet will ever hurt you is by hitting you. The lack of destructive shockwave is clearly evideny when shooting paper targets. The holes in the paper are caliber sized and no additional damage to the target is seen.
http://tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:-VhkUe_PlUjmjM:http...mg/asrul50st100a.JPG
(note clean target holes)

If shockwave effect existed for the .50 it should exist for all other bullets traveling at the same speed. Note that 30-06 and .50 BMG have similar muzzle velocities difference in bullet diamter is less than .2".
makes sense if you ask me. so...maybe we can test the myth wether a .50 bmg can rip a man in half then! *desperately searches for an excuse to shoot at bobby kottig with a huge ass rifle*

That's most impressive, now I know who to hire as an assassin...umm ignore that!

But can he take on a Hind D single handedly, or a tank with only some grenades?! Snake FTW!

Still that's damn well amazing!
