You know, all I really hope for in Broken Steel is that they will open Vault 101 and see them build a 'town' out of it. Damnit, Amata was one of my favorite characters, not to mention I want to see some Mass Effect-esque romance going on.

Don't judge me.
There would would probably need to be quite a bit of restructuring to be done if that was to happen. It may not be so easy to fit Vault 101 back into the game, especially if you have completed the Trouble on the Homefront quest.
You're probably right, but all I'd ask for would be Amata and the rest suddenly appearing in Megaton (or Rivet City, depending on the, erhm, situation). After some catching up, they'll return to the Vault, and you'll be able to go in and out as you like.

After reading your post again, I suspect you mean that they closed the Vault forever? That's not the case, Amata threw you out after completing the quest, but hinted on opening the vault sometime in the future.

anchorage was kinda ok, a bit of a let down, but getting a CSA and shocksword to call my own was more then worth it. CSA does make stealth boys a bit redundant however. I enjoyed the pitt quite a bit for a number of reasons.
1) It was more like the main game area (Open to explore, not walk. shoot. VATS. repeat)

2) It foreced me to think on my feet (losing CSA and silenced 10mm pistol meant I had to be extra careful in the steel mills.

3) I got the autoaxe, (One of the few weapons made of weapons-grade pure fun)

4) The pitt fight, I died fighting the bear brothers before formulating a workable strategy involving grenades. (although the last fight with the "bloodfirsty" freed slave was like fighting a quadriplegic thanks to the arsenal of weaponry I had picked up from the previous fights.

5) The End choice, side with Ashur or Wernher and the reality of what the cure is. I had gone in after talking to wernher thinking I would go in. grab cure. and rambo my way out with a minigun. As I went to see the cure, I heard a baby cry. That's when I was not sure what the hell to do. I talked to Ashur and then decided to side with him and take down wernher because I just could not kidnap a child on there.

BTW does anyone think there should be a line in werher's dialogue to say to him "I thought you were dead"?
because he looks a hell of alot like snake pissken from Escape from New York.

with regards to broken steel, I am just going round at the moment killing stuff to collect ammo and tesla armour in preperation for broken steel. Hopefully the trend of the DLC will continue (getting better IMO )

I do offer a piece of advice for anyone playing F3 and going from andale to the citadel on foot.
watch the cars by the raider encampment, a well placed missile by every wastelanders favourite outlaws can nuke the entire road, causing you to jump and recieve a full body cripple (which really drains ur stimpacks).

I stopped playing once I hit level 20. I figured if Broken Steel was going to be coming out and raising the cap to 30, I might as well save a few quests to count towards that.
I also did this, so I will resume playing upon purchase of Broken Steel.
