====================================================

It is the year 2080 and humanity has advanced after finally banding together when an extraterrestrial message reached Earth.

On September 6th, 2020, for a few moments, humanity was universally reminded that it wasn't alone. For 3 minutes all of our TV's, computers, phones and radios played a message from space. There wasn't an alien face to greet humanity but a voice in its alien tongue. At first it didn't even sound like a voice. Not to our human ears. It sounded synthetic, strange, different and incongruous but it was a voice nonetheless. It was undeniably an alien species contacting Earth. Every major government body and scientific facility analyzed the message over and over again to make sure it wasn't fake. And for once it wasn't. The message was authentic as authentic as it could be. No one understood what it said or its meaning but when the 3 minutes was over, all fighting ceased all over the globe. Instead of pointing our guns at each other, we turned our sights to the stars. From then on, September 6th was internationally dubbed as "First Contact Day".

It was difficult at first to put aside everything we had against each other but we did it. In 2040, we sent astronauts to Mars to walk its red earth. In 2050 we invented anti-matter engines to hasten our search for the source of the signal. Finally in 2071, we successfully sent a ship to Alpha Centauri. Yet we weren't any close to finding the sender. But the biggest and most recent discovery came from within the solar system.

People theorize that it was either our immediate need to leave the solar system or the simple doubt that something could exist 200 AU away from the sun but something did exist. Beyond the Kuiper Cliff there was an anomaly That was why the S.S. Elijah was sent.

(Artist Cred to Pinarci)
The third ship of its type, the S.S. Juliet relies on Anti engines for its propulsion much all the newer type of ships. And much like the newer ships the Juliet use lightweight plating to allow for faster travel and maneuvering. Much like past ships, the Juliet takes off vertically but without the need for external rockets. The ascent is still rough but the anti-matter engines make it slightly more smooth.

Starting from the nose, the cockpit is where the pilot and commander maneuver the ship. The cockpit is rather spacious as it accommodates the rest of the crew when launching or landing.

Then from the cockpit are two exits of the ship located respectively port and starboard.

Moving on is the main corridor of the ship leading all the way down to the back of the ship and its engine room. There are several rooms along the corridor with their own dedicated spaces.

The first two rooms on port and starboard side are the sleeping quarters for the astronauts. Each room has four beds arranged in a row, one foot apart from each other. The beds themselves resemble half ovals with the mattress and pillow itself custom-made to fit snug in the oval. When Deep Sleep mode is activated, the other half of the oval come forward from an apparatus above the head of the bed. Once the half of the oval is perfectly over the other, it slides into place and completes the oval. The dip inside the oval is enough for any human being to fit in and the apparatus doesn't come in contact with the head at all.

Following that is the science lab on the starboard side and the storage room port side. The storage room also doubles as a recreation room. While not exactly a full-fledged gym, it does offer the astronauts a space to work out using a few manual work-out devices. The same with the science lab as in it doesn't quite hold up to a fully-fledged laboratory, it has enough to carry some experiments and store some sensitive material. The science lab also has a UV light.

Next is the medical room port side and drone command center starboard. The medical room is stocked with medicine and a bench of which astronauts can use if need be.

Finally the lavatories occupy both side rooms before leading into the engine room. In the engine room there are two more exits on either side.

The drone command center on board is for two exploratory drones [http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs41/i/2009/049/0/7/DRONE_17_by_dasAdam.jpg]. The drones are able to remotely repair the ship and collect material outside the spacecraft otherwise deemed unattainable for the astronauts although the drones only have an operational range of 100 yards from the vessel. They are roughly three feet tall and weighs 100lbs unladen with any material with its maximum capacity reaching 200lbs. There are cameras on the side and center of the drone with the side camera able to switch from its regular view to infrared and magnetic view. The drones are stored underneath the ship and deploy from there as well. There are hatches to access the drones themselves without deploying them. They are located on the floor of the drone command center and the medical room.

There isn't a way to recreate gravity just yet so when in orbit, the Juliet experiences little to no gravity on board.

Ever since first contact, humanity has collectively sought to explore space as much as they could. That meant they needed more astronauts to cover ground in space. Certain countries could build the ships but not provide the astronauts but some provided the astronauts but couldn't build enough ships so it became common place for astronauts from all walks of life to work on one ship.

The S.S. Juliet may have been exclusively made in the United States but its pilots don't necessarily have to be from America. Space suits also haven't changed all that much either. They remain as bulky as they did when they first started but there have been changes.

Everyone's suit is capable of zero g flight albeit limited by the fuel and control is difficult without a dedicated propulsion pack of which there are only two. The addition of an integrated and dedicated electronic system is also new. Communication is more refined and there is the ability to see what one fellow astronaut is doing outside. Due to regulations only 4 astronauts are allowed outside.

===================================================t

Humanity's first steps into space were messy at first but it wasn't just humanity's own mistakes that made it messy. The endless variation of space yielded many anomalies previously thought to be impossible. Broken Sun is one of them.

The mission is simple. Venture past Neptune and the "Kuiper Cliff" and uncover the fate of the S.S. Elijah. The mission will be closely monitored so expectations are high. Now time for the astronauts.

Name: Any nicknames if you want, rank goes here as well if you have any

Age: Obviously no teenagers or kids aboard the vessel. Everyone has to be either in their 30's or more.

Gender: Self-explanatory

Role on the Juliet: Is your character a dedicated scientist or mechanic? Your role on the S.S. Juliet is vital.

Bio: What did your character do before S.S. Juliet? (Military backgrounds are okay alongside having flown past missions before) The more important question is how much First Contact affected them or their family.

Personality: Who is your character and what are they like?

Religious Belief(if any): Your character is going to see things that are either going to shatter or strengthen their faith in religion. This is also totally optional.

The roles(Any role not filled out I will either add an NPC):

Commander- In charge of overall mission success, safety of crew and the ship. The commander helps the pilot fly the ship as well. (Please PM me first regarding the Commander role. The commander role is a huge role.)

Pilot- In charge of flying the ship.

Flight Engineer- Besides assisting the pilot the flight engineer is in charge of the maintenance of the ship and its general state. Repairs are usually made by the flight engineer both in and outside the ship.

Drone specialist- In charge of the drones aboard the ship. They are in charge of piloting the drone either of exploration or assistance in repairs of the ship.

Doctor- The medical specialist on board the S.S. Juliet. In charge of the well being of the astronauts.

Science Officer- Primarily in charge of the S.S. Juliet's science experiments.

Security Personnel- Hastily attached to the S.S. Juliet. They are in charge of protecting the astronauts from whatever happened to the S.S. Elijah.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The RP is going to take place when the ship reaches Jupiter so if I've accepted you, your characters should have gotten to know one another by now.

Any suggestions or criticisms are welcome. If any of you have any questions please ask.

Looks good, I'll aim to have a sheet for the pilot up at some point today.

Name: WCm. Natasha 'Wings' Kaminov

Age: 37

Gender: Female

Role on the 'Juliet': Pilot

Appearance: Standing at an average height of 5ft 8in, Natasha has a slim, athletic build that some might describe as almost boyish. However, she carries herself in a pro-active, confident manner. Her skin is incredibly pale which contrasts sharply with her jet black hair and eyebrows, both cut severely and residing in a sharply featured face, with high, prominent cheekbones, a thin nose and a sharp chin. Her eyes look large in her face, and are a soft, jade green, which serves to somewhat pacify what would otherwise be a very stern set of facial features, making her a little more approachable. She dislikes flash, and would be opposed to all but the most subtle cosmetics even if she wasn't on a mission where looking pretty was just about the least of all concerns, keeping her nails filed short and only wearing one piece of jewellery. Namely, a thin, white gold necklace with a single pearl hanging from it. An heirloom as elegant as it is expensive. When she's not required to be in full gear, Natasha wears various combinations of black Agency T-shirts and vests, with running shorts or tracksuit bottoms.

Bio: While the initial reactions to First Contact Day, from jubilation to terror, were understandably varied all around the world, what most would agree on is that the new found peace and unified scientific advancement that such and event motivated in the human race was nothing short of miraculous. Unfortunately, Natasha's family were an anomaly. She was born into an extremely wealthy and (formerly) politically influential lineage; and her family's wealth and status flowed from old roots, sunk deep into the Russian establishment. With old money and old allegiances, came old ways of thinking, and Natasha was raised in a household that was strictly orthodox and aggressively nationalist, not to mention bitter at how their social standing had waned in the 20 or so years before her birth.

Growing up in this environment, the young Natasha naturally absorbed and parroted the doctrines of her family. Even so, Natasha was always burdened with a sense of needing more, wanting to explore beyond both the physical and social boundaries that had been put in place for her. Growing up on her family's old estate, Natasha's favourite hobby was falconry, and for as long as she can remember she has lusted after the concept of flight, and the unburdened freedom that to her it always represented. These desires mingled with her right wing upbringing, and resulted in her ambition to join the Russian Air Force, an ambition that she pursued with a singular drive throughout her adolescence, scoring the top grades required and enlisting straight out of college.

To her surprise, enlisting in the Russian military introduced Natasha into a world that was far more open and accepting to the reality of international co-operation. These ideals were strange to her at first, but she could not deny their attraction and quickly shed many of the political leanings of her family. As well as this, Natasha proved to be a truly excellent fighter pilot. Sharp, calm under pressure, and doggedly determined. It was at flight school when her peers first started calling her 'Wings', after the scrap-books and photo albums full of birds (both natural and mechanical) that she kept in her locker. Rising through the ranks of the Air Force astonishingly quickly, Natasha inevitably caught the attention of the European Space Agency, who were keen to recruit potentially talented cosmonauts in an environment that was mostly led, on the engineering side at least, by the USA and China.

While Natasha's family had originally supported her military career, despite their grievances with changes to Russian foreign policy, this was too much. The thought of their daughter taking orders from NASA, a government organisation belonging to such an old adversary, and agency that had beaten their people to the moon a century ago, shamed them. The deterioration of Natasha's relationship with her family was not explosive. However, the more they tried to steer her away from her current path, the more stubborn Natasha became in response, until eventually the constant fights were too much for either side to bear, and they began to lose touch. In a fit of bitterness, Natasha's father ceased all financial support of his daughter before she left for Florida. However, by this point Natasha was already being paid a handsome salary, so it made little difference.

That was 3 years ago. Since then, Natasha has flown 2 successful missions (one to Alpha Centauri), and earned herself a solid reputation. At the end of her last mission, piloting a craft of the same class as the 'Juliet' a debris strike shortly after take-off punctured an area of the ship's heat shielding, threatening the safety of the crew on re-entry. Even though the problem was only discovered by the crew as they were beginning their final descent into the Earth's atmosphere, Natasha's quick thinking and skill in adjusting her planned vector in such extreme conditions quite possibly saved the lives of the entire crew, earning her respect and even a small degree of celebrity.

Personality: Natasha is not exactly anti-social. She gets on with people well enough, and despite her upbringing has never shown any prejudice towards astronauts of other national backgrounds. However, when on the job, she keep her mind on the job, pure and simple. She takes her role and her responsibilities seriously, and doesn't appreciate distractions. She seems to fall into the no-man's land of being nobody's enemy, but nobody's best friend either. However, even people who aren't particularly fond of her would never dispute her skill at the helm, or her composure in high stress situations. Natasha is, above all else, dependable. When you're making a trip to an astronomic anomaly unexplained by science, to search for survivors of a previous mission gone badly wrong, she's the woman you want flying you there... and hopefully back again.

While she doesn't regret any decisions she has made, a part of Natasha can't help but still yearn for her parent's approval, and she can only hope that one day, perhaps after a mission so important and ground-breaking as this, that they might accept the importance of the path she has chosen.

Faith: If asked whether she believes in any kind of higher power, Natasha will tell you that, either one day we will find out, and then we'll know for sure, or we never will, in which case there's no use guessing. In either case, it doesn't matter what anybody believes. Privately however, she can help but believe that there are higher powers out there... and she is afraid of what might happen on the day we come face to face with them.

Notes: Natasha speaks very good English, as well as a smattering of Mandarin. However, when stressed she often switches back absent-mindedly to speaking in Russian. When she's not flying or sleeping, Natasha can usually be found exercising or reading (she likes the Russian classics). Anything to keep her mind and body sharp for when she needs them.

Tell me if anything needs changing. :)

I do also have a few questions...

1) Do you want us to include our character's appearance on our sheets/can we if we want to?

2) Does the Juliet launch vertically like the rockets we have today, or take off like a plane?

3) If the launch is vertical, is it still done with the aid of external rockets, or id the Anti-Matter engine powerful enough to clear atmosphere all by itself?

4) When in space, does the Juliet have artificial gravity, or is technology not that advanced yet?

Oh, I thought this RP would be set MUCH further into the future then just 2080

Still, here's my sheet

Name: David West

Age: 43

Gender: Male

Role on the Juliet: Security Personnel

Bio: Born in Ireland in the years after First Contact, David spent a lot of his childhood hearing the ravings of his father who had been obsessed with Aliens since First Contact. Personally, he wasn't too into the whole idea, but there was something about Space that always interested him (Or his dad DID rub off on him).
Either way, he grew up and got an education, Scoring a Scholarship to get into Trinity College (Think Ireland's Yale).
While he lagged behind most of the other Alien Mad students, he did manage to pass by joining the military, as most failing students did.

He found his calling there, seeing how every military group in the world was now hasty working to counter a possible invasion by Aliens.
A distinguished career and a transfer to the Department of Aeronautics and David was on the Juliet, though he has to ask why the hell we don't just use one of those big ass telescopes to just look for the Elijah instead.

Personality: Records state that he was the resident Joker of his Unit, Pulling one liners and cracking jokes and the odd Prank. Despite this, He gets on well with most people and Unit Members state that he always looked out for his friends

Done! (I ask that everybody read the note section of my character sheet.)
Name: SrA.Dr.James Northfleet (He holds a doctorate in spaceship engineering and is a senior airmen rank in the U.S. Air Force. By strangers or people he barely knows, he prefers to be referred to by his military rank and last name.)

Age: 52

Gender: Male

Role on the Juliet: Flight Engineer

Appearance: Northfleet is an intimidating Caucasian individual standing at 6'3". Being an Air Force astronaut Northfleet is also physically fit, thought not muscular. He also keeps his dark brown hair in uniformed buzz cut, which goes along with his brown eyes.

Bio: Northfleet was born in NC, U.S.A. in 2028. His life growing up was normal: He went to church on Sundays, made A and Bs in school, had girlfriends, etc.

Despite not being alive at the time of its happening First Contact fascinated him. So he went to college for a doctorate in Aeronautics engineering. It wasn't an Ivy League college but it was still a good one. In college he met a girl named Juliet (Funnily enough) he was fairly sure she was the most beautiful woman alive and they married and currently have two children and she's pregnant with another.

Northfleet joined the Air Force as a flight engineer shortly after graduating. They have never promoted him to an NCO position but he's fine with that, a leadership position isn't for him even if he does treat rookies like they are his kids.

He was on the mission to search for the signal near Alpha Centauri, and it's the most fun he ever had so when the Air Force started taking volunteers for the Elijah mission he jumped at the chance.

Personality: Northfleet is somewhat introverted individual, but he his kind, especially to fellow military members. Northfleet is fairly fatherly, and is always willing to help whatever the problem. He is also a Theist and prays, though he is not quite sure what to; he also tries to do the right thing whenever possible and encourages others to do the same.

Religious Belief: Northfleet is a Theist. He doesn't believe in any particular Deity but he believes there is a God, a heaven, a hell, etc.

Note: If anyone would like to have a pre-existing relationship (Besides fairly friendly) just PM me. (Especially the fellow who ends up playing the pilot since we will be working close together.)

I'll make a character later today if I have time. I haven't RP'ed in AGES, so I'm hesitant to start one for fear of life forcing me to throw it on the back-burner.

How many people are allowed to join? It seems like a small ship, can't imagine you can have too many people unless we are going to extend new characters to places besides the Juliet.

Your character sheet looks good, welcome aboard :)

As for questions:

1: Appearances are optional since, depending who you are, might be spending a lot of time in a space suit.

2: The Juliet launches vertically with the seats for the crew behind the pilots' seats.

3: No the anti-matter engines are powerful enough for the ship to take off from orbit.

4: No the Juliet still isn't capable of Artificial gravity so expect a lot of floating around.

Thanks for the questions, I'll add them up top.

Nice sheet. Although I'm just nitpicking here, humanity didn't colonize Alpha Centauri yet they just sent some exploratory ships in search of the signal. But like I said, nothing major.

The perfect range of people I'll allow are 7-8.

To everybody else, I've updated the OP above with more info. The updated information is bolded for clarity's sake.

Alright fixed my sheet and I got some questions.

1):Are there consoles located around the ship where someone could check the status of the ship?
2):What's the state of modern weaponry?
3):Does the ship have an A.I.?
4):How does the flight engineer "assist the pilot" exactly? (Since the commander co-pilots.)
5):Do non-security personnel have sidearms on them?

1. Yes, there are several consoles located around the ship. Most of them are located outside of each room so one can check the room without entering the room itself.

2. Weaponry is still rather in our age since we've switched from trying to kill each other to exploring the stars.

3. I'll get back to you shortly ;)

4. Flight engineers assist the pilot by telling the pilot the status of the engines, the ship, anything that might impact the flight of the ship. Along with that, if either the pilot or the commander are incapable of flying then the flight engineer has to step in.

5. No, only the security personnel are allowed to have weaponry on that.

Progress has advanced steadily. Prosthetic limbs are more life-like now and are difficult to be distinguished from regular limbs. Transhumanism is picking up the pace back on earth with robotic limbs on the market along with cyber brains in prototype stages although it is still in its infancy.

Name: Dr. Nikolai Chervenkov [PhDs below.]

Age: 32

Gender: Male

Appearance: Dark hair that's short enough to not be in the way, and long enough to cover his ears, tanned skin and dark eyes. 6'2" feet tall and with a normal build. Well trained, as an astronaut should be, but certainly not bulky, and he's gained some weight during the trip. His facial traits are pleasing, but he's not particularly handsome apart from that. He does prefer being clean-shaved, but sometimes he just doesn't care enough to actually shave.

Role on the Julie: Science Officer/Scientist. His fields are mostly biological sciences, and he has doctorates in Biochemistry and Botany.

Bio: Nikolai Chervenkov was born in Bulgaria, and has been living there for most of his life. The First Contact really didn't change the life of his family much at all. Obviously, it changed the society around them, but it wasn't before his grandmother left her family behind to go Russia and become an astronaut, it had an actual impact. Despite her having an education in engineering, as well as showing some interest earlier, it was very sudden. More surprisingly, she succeeded. That was in 2055, when he was 7 years old. Nikolai never really understood the fascination she had taken to space as a child, she had spent hours telling him about the First Contact, but he didn't understand it. What could inspire a loving grandmother to suddenly leave? And, why not back then? Why had she decided to leave 35 years later? He never did understand that. Then, she passed away, from complications under a trip, according to the short letter they had sent home.

For a long time, it seemed Nikolai didn't care about what had happened to her, letting the sudden whims of an 45 year old woman slip by the child. Seeing that his dad had been shocked when his grandmother left, that was a good thing. Interest in the space became, despite the increasing interest of society, a negative thing within the family. That was why the supposedly well settled and responsible Nikolai opened old wounds when he told his family that he intended to follow in his grandmother's footsteps. At this time, he was known as a very talented biologist who had made several significant discoveries. His relatives, not wanting another letter, told him not to bother contacting them again.

One family less, Nikolai went to the US due to the recent developments there. He spent several years on becoming an astronaut -certainly not neglecting his research while there- and finally was accepted for this mission.

Personality: Nikolai has a whimsical personality, perhaps odd for someone with several doctorates. Although certainly interested in his fields, he won't bother try talking to most people about it, instead opting for a more general approach to conversations. Nikolai does take pride in his work, however, make no mistake, and he does want to discover something. Trying to explain it just makes it less interesting, in his opinion. He doesn't like being told what to do by others, and he doesn't gain respect for people easily, but he certainly won't hold that against on a personal level, nor will his pride actually hinder work. Most of the time. What he will hold against someone, however, is them assuming he's from Russia, Ukraine or Belarus. Really, anywhere that's not Bulgaria. Asking him is perfectly fine, assuming so because of his accent and name is not.

Apart from this, he seems like a reasonable man, responsible enough to be trusted with as important a task as being the scientific officer of the ship, caring enough to be human, and laid-back enough to enjoy life even as he's in space. He has a fierce, but short-lived temper, and together with his whims, there are times when he'll surprise people, act out on a risk or emotion that people'll have difficulties seeing. He's certainly not below insulting people either when in a bad mood or angry, and is fairly good at doing so subtly.

So far, none of his whims have made him do anything drastic, unless one for some ridiculous reason should assume that leaving his family behind to follow in the footsteps of his grandmother, who died on her first and only mission, is drastic. Nikolai has a tendency to claim that he's a man of logic, and that every action he's made is following a certain logic. He just doesn't let anyone know what kind of messed up logic that would be.

Religious Belief(if any): Member of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church. Nikolai hasn't let whether or not he actually believes in it slip.

This is my sheet, for a Bulgarian science officer, because science. Feedback is appreciated.

Edit: Also, just so that people don't get confused. Yes, I am aware of the effects on human bodies on space, but I'm working under the impression of that they've come further when it comes to what the astronauts eat, limiting muscle-loss and bone loss. With saying that he's gained weight/fat (a pound or two, it's noticeable but not horribly so), I'm working under the impression of that 1. The food they are eating has the contents needed for not only limiting the side effects, but also has the energy needed for the astronauts to be able to perform physical tasks, and 2. that they've been in space for more than a week.

Sent a PM. My submission:

Name: Abdul Ghani Nasr

Age: 47

Gender: Male

Role on the Juliet: Commander

Bio: A man of Lebanese and Arab descent. He attended the University of Balamand, studying telecommunications and aerospace engineering. He fixed satellites for the Headquarters of Aeronautics before becoming a pilot himself, mapping the icy wastes of Enceladus and volcanic plumes of Io. Having been born after First Contact, the existence of life on other planets had been ever present to him. His own world had such a diversity of living beings, so one would simply assume that others did as well.

He has a daughter, Maisha.

Personality: A grim man with little charisma and showing signs of his age, Abdul Ghani Nasr is nonetheless capable and decisive. He has an unwavering resolve and is prepared to shoulder the responsibility of his ship and comrades, willing to suit up and join at the front if need be.

Religious Belief (if any): Non-theistic, but elements of Buddhism/Pantheism (not a creator god, there is simply oneness and that we are all one). He has expressed belief in reincarnation.

I like the character and you make some right assumptions. Food for astronauts have significantly improved from today with special reliance on the astronauts having enough energy for not only physical tasks but also for their body to use when in Deep Sleep. Their food gets burnt for energy slightly slower compared to regular food to supply constant energy and sustenance in case of Deep Sleep.

Roles are closing up! Get those sheets in and keep in mind, I'll allow one more security personnel aboard the ship! Everything else is first come, first serve!(if there isn't anything wrong of course)

Hmm... speaking of which...

what has humanity done since today to address the problems of long-term space travel?

(read: longer than a few days)

Like say... bones getting weaker...

basically getting diabetes while in space...

and so on.

EDIT:

Basically... dealing with all of the problems detailed in this Cracked article:

http://www.cracked.com/article_20644_6-reasons-life-in-space-sucks-that-sci-fi-doesnt-show-you.html

EDIT 2:

And here's another handy Cracked article about various fluids and materials that act weird in space.

I'm thinking about making a doctor/surgeon, but given that I'm driving home today I won't be able to put the sheet together until later. Are there any particular advances in medicine that I should be aware of? (Robot assisted surgery, new tools, new drugs, new conditions, that sort of thing)

Name: David Magnusson

Age: 38

Gender: Male

Role on the Juliet: Doctor

Bio: David was always acrophobic person, he had been since a young age ever since a camping accident as a child, involving an elk in heat trying to trample him to death or skewer him. Since then, he's never dealt with large areas well, especially areas without a place to hide. His family had been one that was obsessed about "the infinite void of space" (the worse choice of words ever) ever since his grandfather, already having been an astronomer, heard the First Contact so this caused a bit of friction between them and him as they tried to help him get over a problem he felt justified in having and unconcerned in fixing, especially when he got older. He instead chose to take the path of being a medical practitioner which, while disheartening to his parents, was still accepted as a point of pride for them.

Yet, even with this achievement under his belt, they insisted that he fix his "problem" over something that, while they agreed was tramatic, was what they considered a rare incident that he should have been done with when he graduated school. Eventually, they got through to him and he took an interest in space and dealing with the problem...that was their problem, letting themselves believe that he was having a sudden realization instead of just going along with it to shut them up. In reality, he never even wanted to think about space, the widest and most open space in existance so he fabricated a lie, feigning interest in astronomy and even deciding to do somethinh drastic, taking a ride into space so that once he got back (he never thought that he wouldn't, not wanting to entertain the idea and chicken out) they would finally shut up and leave him alone. Besides, he'd be in a spaceship, an enclosed area, albeit one hurtling through the void of space, don't think about it, david, that thought train won't end well.

Steeling himself with meditation and several techniques that he had had shoved onto him by family and friends, he got into a program and trained for the next several years to be an astronaut, not to hard since the need for and use of doctors is always there in any place. Eventually, he was recommended to this mission and after intensely debating with himself, he joined in the hopes that the captain would be skilled enough to get there and get them out and he could always just hole up in the medical bay or what ever they call it. Heck, he shouldn't even need to leave the ship and risk encountering this "Broken Sun". Besides, it was just a simple go in, investigate, get out type of mission as he saw it, nothing should go too badly...right?

Personality: Generally speaking, David comes off as a rather nice, well-meaning guy, always trying to stay ethical and protective whenever he can. He can be quite sarcastic and cynical when someone gives him the opportunity, but this is just a copping mechanic for dealing with his still rather strong fear of space (or more of space as the ultimate wide open...space. Basically, he's acrophobic). He's known for poor decision making when not dealing with anything medical and shown to be slightly out of his depth when it comes to fully understanding the horrors of space, already focusing on the things he already finds horrible. He believes that a problem should be solved at the earliest convenience and in the most straight forward way possible, even if it isn't the most rational way, hence his going to space instead of continuing to argue that he doesn't have a problem. He also hates Psychology, especially people who try to diagnose him as ill or having a problem for what he feels is a rational and normal feeling.

Religious Belief(if any): Buddhism. He follows the rules whenever he can but doesn't make a huge deal about it when he can't.

Really not confident in the way i handled the end of his bio. The rational seems to disjointed to me...i don't know, maybe i'm being overly critical here. If i'm not, i'm open to suggestions on how to fix it.

EDIT: Damn...2 hours too late, Someone else called it. Sorry.

Guess I'll get to work on a Security Personnel, or is there another open spot that i'm missing?
